Smartsheets is a Dynamic Support Tool

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Smartsheets offers several ways for me to view my data. I appreciate how easy it is to access things like cards, Gant sheets, and even excel style forms all for the same data set. They also make it very easy to flip between these different viewing styles, which helps me a lot when trying to visualize information in different ways.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be challenging to add sub-steps to a task or project that I've recorded in SmartSheets. It would be better if there were an easy way to create simple indents for sub-step information to help break up the data more when viewing it in Gant Charts or Excel Forms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheets is helping me by giving me a centralized location to document a large amount of project information and details. It helps me track deliverables and communicate deadlines and ownership to my team. It improves collaboration and communication.

Solid product, great for team workflow and project tracking

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is a great way to capture the data needed to keep projects, large and small, moving within and across teams/departments. The intricacies of combining sheets and being able to create reports off of said sheets make communication much easier across a company.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing that keeps popping up for us is that we need a better way to capture multiple file uploads within a form. What I mean by that is, you can only use the file upload field once within a form, and often we find it would be useful for it to show up more than once within a form because we may ask about uploading a financial document in a particular section and then later in the form need marketing collateral to be uploaded. From a usability standpoint, it would be best to keep a field for upload in the "finance" portion of the form and then create another spot for upload within the "marketing" portion of the form so that they user logically answers in order, rather than having the upload in one spot and trying to write help text that says to put ALL possible materials into that field. I hope that makes sense!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cross-department project tracking. Project intake. Project status. On-boarding.

Templates and use cases for days!

What do you like best about the product?
I find the product support and template options to be extremely helpful. As a project manager, I have encountered many business needs that Smartsheet was able to meet, such as project and portfolio management, policy management, and prioritization and strategy matrices. I'm tech savvy, but not a pro at spreadsheet manipulation and linking, but I had no problem utilizing Smartsheet's free online resources and customizing them for my particular application. Additionally, if I had a problem I could reach a human being who listened and talked me through it, offering helpful suggestions and knowledge.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downsides of Smartsheet for me are sometimes self-inflicted... because I'm able to get creative with the forms and documents, I have built dependencies and links in that are overly complex. So you can be your own worst enemy! Start simple.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workflow automation has been the biggest business solution for me. When working with limited resources (human and otherwise), efficiency and sustainability have to be baked in. From reminders to notifications, and even signatory and approval workflows, Smartsheet has helped to minimize the administrative work of monitoring and has actually reduced the number of emails flying about.

We use Smartsheets to seamlessly track multiple projects and assign responsibilities with deadlines

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best feature of Smartsheets is the fact that it is in a centralized location that can be accessed, viewed, and edited by the entire team. I also like the way Smartsheets allows us to display many active projects with subordinate tasks and the ability to collapse or expand to see the big picture or just the nuances, as needed. I also like the comments panel that allows the whole team can few the latest developments at a glance.
What do you dislike about the product?
The one thing I would change is make it so that changes are "live" in the sense that they are automatically saved and propagated to other team members as soon as you make them, so that you don't have click the save button, and team members don't have to refresh manually. We've gotten used to how all of our Microsoft documents automatically sync like this via Sharepoint.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track of all our many projects in various phases of completion; assigning responsibilities and deadlines, recording updates and communications with clients, etc.

I've been managing different NPD and EOL project with the use of Smartsheet as my planning tool

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It helps "herding cats". It is very good to have an active notification to team members and I really enjoyed the UI and UX (and by enjoy it I mean that it was so intuitive that I did not have to learn anything)
What do you dislike about the product?
I think my experience has been, overall, very positive. Maybe the only thing I would change is the homepage. I see project that is suggested to me but I would find it useful to see all of my projects without the need to move on the sidebar and look for my folders.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is helping in making sure that each functional group keeps up with the schedule in those projects in which several functional areas are involved.
The schedule is everything.

Never had anything to do with support, everything always worked as intended.

A Very versatile online project management app

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is an excellent blend of your typical Gantt chart project app and a spreadsheet. It is my go to option for Project Management, Task management, Workflow management & More. The ability to display your data on a calendar based on dates in the rows is beneficial. We use the workspace feature to create branded customer portals with multiple projects files located together. Also, the ability to build dashboards based on data from as many files as you wish is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
You may find the task-linking feature lacking if you are running a more complex project schedule. You can not combine a task precedence with a "fixed start date" or "start no sooner than" date. I find this limiting on occasion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When I'm not sure what I'm what or how I want to lay it out, I always start with Smartsheet because of its versatility. I often use Smartsheet as the ultimate solution, so I don't have to rework it.

Solid online collaboration tool

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Online spreadsheets with change monitoring, notification options, and good management and scripting options make this a solid tool for collaboration and group idea and data management. Provides tools for multiple sheet integrations, form data submission, as well as many other useful ways to collaborate and manage data.
What do you dislike about the product?
The lack of ability to make separate sheets in the same workbook makes it challenging to manage some data and keep it together. Separate tabs need to be different sheets in Smartsheets, making it easier to lose track of which sheets are related. Managing and organizing smart sheets when you have a large number of them can be difficult as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A publically available central information management point makes Smart Sheet valuable for our teams. It allows for constant management, updating, and centrally locating data.

Great app but it will be better with certain features

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very intuitive for people who don't have much knowledge of Project Management. Therefore, it's easier to use on work assignments and coordination with the team.
What do you dislike about the product?
We constantly need to make reports to present on Joint Steering Committee meetings, such as general milestones/activities timeline. Smartsheet summary report is limited. The grid was move removable for the timeline bar on the right side, which makes the presentation not neat. I googled online and see if there is a way to work it out and saw lots of complaints about this. it would be great to have this feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
team activities coordination with internal or external teams.
I can easily assign the work to certain team member and it will send reminder to the team member if it's not done.

Excel Who?

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet provides an excellent organizational tool that is easy to adapt to suit your needs. We have a macro-heavy sheet for tracking workload and schedules. We also use smartsheet as an online excel substitute in cases, building out checklists, constraint logs, etc. The flexibility and collaborative asset is very helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
More of an organizational critique, editors of a sheet have access to the data, but only admins can adjust columns and headings. In many collaborative cases, adding columns is required to better categorize information. Most team members will add users as Editors by default, rather than Admins.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet provides a central source of information. For a weekly action meeting, we are able to use a unified document to keep track of what happened in the past, assign tasks accordingly, track dates, and more. Always knowing where to go for up to date info is critical, and Smartsheet is a huge help in that.

Useful, but a steeper learning curve than Excel

  • February 23, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to link between sheets easily, find them all in one place, have them stored on their own servers, and their expanded functionality is all extremely useful. Specifically, I like that I can favorite just a few that are specific to me, rather than having to search through folders and folders of different things to find them. The most recently viewed feature is also nice when going back and forth and I find that linking sheets to each other operates quite a bit better than anything I could do with Excel.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve for Smartsheets is pretty high. All the functionality is great, but generally requires attending the webinars to truly use to its greatest potential. Excel has been around for long enough that there are plenty more users, forums, and general resources to help out when you get stuck. Additionally, most offices will buy enough licenses for MS Office Suite for their entire office staff - not so with Smartsheets, which leaves managers and others to assume the task of creating the sheet, etc for someone without a license. I don't see a point in buying a license for an employee that might only need to make a single sheet, either, but I'm not sure what the fix for this would be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet makes it easier to note who should be on what task, when they should be doing it/how long it should take, and what the next step in our process should be. By linking with other sheets that are filtered by person, they also make it easier for individuals to see a list of their own tasks and priorities.
