Perfect solution for a small department without a dedicated social media person!

  • May 18, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Several of us try to keep up with social media for a small university department, but it's not in any of our job descriptions. Hootesuite's ability to let us schedule our posts ahead of time to multiple social media feeds has been awesome! We sit down once a month and get materials scheduled so that there's always new content in our feeds.
What do you dislike about the product?
Really wish there was an easier way to integrate with Pinterest and Instagram.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We no longer have long gaps between new content in our feeds, and we can track metrics for our social media posts--all in one place. We didn't have the time to do that before, and so we just didn't do it.

Hootsuite free & Hootsuite pro

What do you like best about the product?
Hootsuite is an excellent tool for managing social media profiles.

I've used two types: Hootsuite free (for personal use) and Hootsuite pro (for clients).

The advantages are below:
- Easy to manage all your social profiles in one place
- You can 'delegate' customer inquiries to others in your team to respond to (great for when multiple people are involved in responding via social media)
- You can track certain words or references easily in different streams
- You can pre-schedule content
- It has useful analytics

Hootsuite University is also a fantastic resource for learning how to better use the platform, and the Hootsuite Certification course is insightful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside is posting to Instagram. You can still schedule posts via Hootsuite, but Instagram needs you to authorize every post through the Instagram app specifically - meaning it is a two step process when posting content to this specific platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hootsuite enables easy management of multiple social platforms. It also allows different areas of the business to monitor and respond to inquiries - and it has a clear mechanism for 'delegating' responsibilities for responding to customer inquiries.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Hootsuite is a cost-effective solution to managing social channels.

The only downside is with Instagram - you have to log into the Instagram app specifically to post and cannot do it directly through Hootsuite.

Also while the analytics on Hootsuite are valuable, I also still rely more heavily on Google Analytics, Facebook Insights etc.

I love Hootsuite

What do you like best about the product?
I love being able to set up posts for days/weeks ahead. If I had more use for other forms of social media than the ones I use, I'd pay for the subscription. Until my regular uploads start to get me more followers and then I'll be a paying customer.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes I feel like the buttons are a bit counter-intuitive, but that's something that may be more a preference thing than a "problem" I feel like there should be somewhere you can search for suggestions on things to share. I feel like always setting up to share you own specific things is difficult and can sometimes be a huge turn off for other people, but if you intersperse it with interesting blogs and articles, you might find that you are surprised by how many more people pay attention. I solved that problem by downloading the app for Chrome and now I have a button that I can use to share things using Hootsuite.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can't promote my writing while I'm at my day job. If I did, I would probably lose a lot of time at work. But I also can't just flood everyone with information while I'm not at work (and I need to rest sometimes). So I set up a bunch of posts for a week or so and it takes me about an hour, but I can copy paste when I'm reposting something several times, which I do frequently. It's helped me find time to relax.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This may be my favorite program for social media ever.

Take control over your social media with Hootsuite

  • March 03, 2016

What do you like best about the product?
Hootsuite integrates the major social media platforms in a convenient dashboard and excells at collaborateion in shared social media accounts for teams and organizations.

Unlike other social media management tools, Hootsuite gives a great overview in multiple dashboards so you can group your social media streams the way you like, assign conversations to your team members and automate publishing of articles from feeds you define. Cross social media publishing is made very convenient with the option to schedule your posts in advance.

Recently Hootsuite added the option to create social media campaigns to create awesome interactive promotions for your audience. Now it's a breeze to target your peers and get them involved with your business.

The recently upgraded Analytics gives you a better overview of how your social media actions are resulting with your audience, so it's easier to follow up on your efforts.

With the mobile app, it's even easy to manage and control your social media actions on the go and use mobile-only integrations like Instagram and Foursquare.

If you're an organization or team with a strong social media presence, Hootsuite will be the tool that will help you gain control over your social media channels the way you like it best.
What do you dislike about the product?
Using Hootsuite can be overwhelming at first as there are so many options for your social media integrations, and the user interface is not intuitive enough to figure things out immediately, some learning is required.

Hootsuite is an awesome tool with a lot of options, but it comes at a fairly expensive price. I think that if they lowered the initial price for teams comparable to other social media management tools, they would gain market leader position in no-time.

While in the web interface you can connect to Google+ and LinkedIn for your individual and team accounts, on the mobile device you can only interact with both on your personal social media account but not for team accounts, which is not really helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Social media can turn into social chaos very rapidly. Using the different channels with their own interfaces was cumbersome and took too much time away from running our business. Hootsuite allowed us to structure our social media presence and offered us a platform where we could collaborate as a team. Soon after we used Hootsuite we regained control and social media is no longer a chaotic burden but a manageable task.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try the free Hootsuite for individual accounts first to get used to Hootsuite and once you feel confident with the tool, start using the paid version for your teams. You won't regret it.
