All around great product!

What do you like best about the product?
I like the organization structure of the site the most. It seems to just make sense from Day 1.
What do you dislike about the product?
It could have a little bit "softer" of "fluffier" UI. It just seems a bit cold but still the functionality works very well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for keeping track of or bugs, customers service tickets, and keeping a handle on all of our new customers and where they are at in the customer onboarding process. Its quick and easy to learn and it multi-faceted.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
JIRA is great. Just get it.

The Defacto Standard for Agile/Scrum

  • December 30, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The board view is the absolute best! As a developer, I'm able to track exactly what I need to get done, what the status is of my tasks, and if something needs to be re-done, or bugs pop up, the board view has all that information at a glance.

The customizable dashboard is really nice too. There's also an RSS feed that you can connect to in order to get instant updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
JIRA definitely has a learning curve. For administrators, scrum masters, and product managers, it can take a while to fully understand the admin interface. Configuring the sprint board can be a total pain if you don't know what you're doing. I'm no JIRA admin or wizard, but I like to think I'm pretty technically savvy, and even I had some trouble trying to set up our sprint board up how I'm used to.

The learning curve certainly takes some time, but once you get it, you get it. It's a minor annoyance that is apparent in the beginning, but goes away pretty quick.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organization and accountability is what our company needed the most. Before we adopted Agile, it was cowboy coder central. There were no best practices followed, people didn't know what on earth others were doing, and it was a pretty serious problem not knowing what on earth the engineers, designers, and qa folks were up to. With JIRA, we were able to see exactly what tasks needed to be done, plan exactly who needs to spend what hours where, and plan our time and energy accordingly. Before I came on, I was told that this was "hackathon" style, which was the buzz and what everyone thought they wanted. The product manager the company brought in along with myself recommended JIRA, and the entire project has seen a truly amazing overhaul. We were able to accomplish so much through using JIRA for just straight up organization.

Everyone in the company now completely understands who's doing what, what the progress is of each task, and have a nice backlog of stuff to do if no one knows what to do next. It's extremely helpful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're a software company that's using Agile, JIRA is the way to go. It's the defacto standard for a reason. Take some time to learn how the entire interface works before implementing it to your whole company first.

Atlassian cloud is really nice too. If you're trying it out, consider just using the cloud instead of your own installation. It's just easier. If you have a hardcore focus on self-reliance, then you can put JIRA on your own server.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Accurate communication between Product Management, Sales, Marketing and the Development team.

Powerful Task/Bug Tracking. Iffy on UX

  • December 28, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
JIRA is very powerful at linking all of your tasks and bugs together so that you can easily track which issues are blocking others. When providing descriptions / notes, you can type in the ID or title of another item and it will be automatically hyperlinked upon saving. When setup through a typical SCRUM project, you can assign points to a sprint and easily configure your Epics, Tasks, and other SCRUM related items. Having a Kanban style board available for view is a huge benefit, since a lot of task tracking apps out there only provide a list view or a board view.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UX when interacting with tasks can be a bit confusing at times. Some of the buttons, especially the create new item button, seem out of place with the general layout / workflow of a given screen. While JIRA used to be the "only ticket in town" for task management and the UI was memorized, users coming into JIRA from other task tracking tools will have a bit of time to adjust and get used to things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use JIRA to help organize large projects that we develop for our clients. We have adopted a SCRUM methodology, so we leverage those features within JIRA to setup our backlog and sprints for our projects. We also tie in bug fixes and features to BitBucket pull requests to properly track which code is fixing which issue.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider moving your code repositories to Bitbucket for full code/task/bug integration. Take some time to look into the overall UI / UX to become familiar with it, instead of mid-project.
