Lots of integration points but requires a lot of customization/personalization

  • January 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jira's various integration points allow you to connect various parts of your product process into the software. It is also very versatile once you learn how to use the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a bit of a learning curve to make the product cross functional. They released an upgrade a few years ago that overhauled the system in a way that made it less intuitive. It was easy to overcome this change because of the personalization that Jira allows.

It can also be a little too dependent on workflow at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jira is our primary tool for managing software development, and it seems to serve that function very well. We have tried several different solutions for this problem, and this seems to work the best. We moved our deployment process to Git after we switched to Jira, and the two work very well together.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to track the status in the workflow from reporting of an issue through resolution. I also like that all associated documents are attached to the issue so they are accessible to everyone involved.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the board view it can be hard to visually find a particular issue without expanding the window across two monitors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Jira to manage reported issues and establish a workflow of reporting, resolution, testing, and implementation.

Robust and feature rich but hard to get started in it

  • January 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It has a lot of features -- a lot more than I need. Company-wide integration is also nice since I don't have to wait for other people to sign-up for an account before we can start collaborating.
What do you dislike about the product?
User interface isn't very intuitive. My dashboard quickly became cluttered with a lot of tickets. I use this now more as a ticketing system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track of tasks across the team. I really use this to keep track of my own tasks now; the interface is too cluttered to track what my team is working on
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For simple tasks, maybe consider a more light-weight solution. These also tend to be more graphical and easier to get a handle on

All purpose tool

  • January 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very powerful tool that you can make work however you want.
What do you dislike about the product?
The customizability is also it's downfall. It's a very deep program that requires a lot of configuration which isn't always obvious.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We run our whole software development process with Jira. It keeps our team, clients, and vendors on task.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use Jira if you want a powerful system that drives process-driven efforts. If you're a smaller team or have less unique needs, look at a simpler product.

JIRA at a digital agency

  • January 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of creating new projects of various types, as well as adding new users, creating tickets, and ability to customize and update a wide range of things (provided you have someone experienced enough to do so). I feel like I'm currently using only the tip of the ice berg in terms of JIRA capabilities.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface isn't the nicest to look at, and it can be confusing at times. But this is due to the sheer amount of things you can do with JIRA. With a little training I'm sure things would be much more clear, but it is a bit intimidating to use for a first time user.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using this for project management and assigning tasks to numerous team members. It's great for tracking progress and staying organized ensuring that employees know which tasks they are have, and giving a platform to communicate on those specific tasks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Review with various teams to ensure it meets the broader groups needs. Developers, Designers, Writers, Project Managers.

Awesome product for agile development companies

  • January 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Covers all aspects of agile development. It does have a good UI not so user friendly but it's a product with some very powerful functionalities.
What do you dislike about the product?
User interactions and experience can be much improved. It takes sometime to figure out stuff and how to do it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I working as Product Manager cum Product owner, Jira has immensely helped me in road map planning, sprint planning, getting insights about what's happening right and what's happening wrong. Great insight tool which helps me identify issues at first hand and plan for the contingencies.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Rich features

Jira

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to add comments to projects while mentioning other people and knowing that they will get notified of the comments. This allows most of the communication about the project to be located with the project. It also gives us a work flow. The end users have the ability to add comments and return the task if not satisfied.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't think it a problem with the program as much as it is a problem with using the web browser as the platform. It's clunky and a little limiting, but it does allow entry with a lot more tools than just a pc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are just using it for project management for our team. It does allow us to keep a lot of the documentation for the project with the project as well as the work flow that is baked in.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It works really well as a project management tool. I am not familiar with it's ability for handling bugs.

JIRA: Central Cross-Team Project Repository

  • January 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive and easy to use, once you get the hang of it. Great of defect tracking and commenting. Workflow is flexible and customizable per project. Each story, task, defect, etc has a unique ID assigned, which makes them easier to sort. AND it could be tied into HipChat. This facilitated real-time updates to each ticket.
What do you dislike about the product?
Setting up workflows, backlogs project boards, etc can be overwhelming at first. Particularly the workflow. There are templates available to get you started...and you have to select one anyway, which I don't particularly like....but you need to tweak them pretty frequently until you find a flow that works best for your project. Also I found for my company, each project required a different workflow, which was confusing for folks who worked across multiple projects.
Son.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communication, defect logging, efficient story boarding and Agile friendly. We used to do all of this in Asana previously, which was a mess and required searching for tickets by text, then picking through them to find relevant information. Test Cases were often lumped with acceptance criteria and defects in one ticket. As such, pms often would create brand new tickets for the same story to avoid weeding through the clutter.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get in and play with the tool - that's the best way to learn how to use it proficiently for your specific company's needs.

Good way to keep track of tasks.

  • January 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
JIRA makes it easy to see what tasks are assigned to me to work. It is also a good way to communicate with the requester and others who have a part in the project. You can document the status of the project for all who are watching the task.
What do you dislike about the product?
After a task is complete it is sometimes hard to locate a task when you want to reference it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am staging data for reporting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend JIRA to others. It is a good way to track projects and bug fixes. It also is a good way to track the status of changes as they go though testing and to production.
