Jira gets things done

  • May 09, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jira is crucial for Agile development (and even kanban). I was a little wary at first as my team is made up of Business Analysts rather than developers and engineers - but we have adopted agile and fully rely on Jira to get things done.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface feels a little dated - especially when compared with Trello. I was excited to see that Atlassian bought trello. True that Jira has the bells and whistles - but for the visually oriented Trello is sweet!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coordinating team efforts to get the right work done in the right time frame.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Read some material on Agile before you start using this.

Fantastic Tool for Any Size Orginzation

  • May 09, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the best features of JIRA is the fact that it is part of the Atlassian family. It integrates easily with so many fantastic tools. If you already work with Atlassian products than JIRA is definitely the way to go. Even if you don't though, there are still some great perks. Namely, it is open source and amendable to your needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is complicated. When you start getting into the larger workflows you may need assistance setting things up. Larger companies would likely need to have a "JIRA" person running it for them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
JIRA provides streamlined task management. I have used this platform for large scale production and smaller account management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Scope out what you need from JIRA first. Have a good idea in mind, then approach the set up. If things start getting complicated seek outside help immediately. JIRA can be difficult to grasp and help from a professional is sometimes necessary. Once it's set up properly though, it runs very well.

Lots of utility with many options

What do you like best about the product?
I like that JIRA enables us to make, report on, and track issues with a range of options in doing so. We're in the marketing department of a software development company, so we didn't know at first how we could use the application. But once we began using JIRA, it quickly became indispensable.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be complicated and time-consuming to search for issues at times, especially if you don't know SQL to use in advanced searches. I sometimes have to try several permutations of a search to find what I'm looking for, even though it should be straightforward.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use JIRA to manage our department workload. We save time by using JIRA as a system to let others know what's needed and to report on progress, without having to email or talk unless it's necessary. JIRA also provides a great way to track what everyone is working on.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you're clear on what you want to accomplish with JIRA. It offers many different options, both built in and available as add-ons, but you should know what you want to do with it. Also try watching some videos of how real companies are using it. That's what we did to figure out how to adapt JIRA for marketing department use.

Good for project management

  • May 05, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
You like arrange and custom your dashboard. Creating profiles for people in order to control what they access to is really useful. Also, assigning tasks to people and being able to use "@" to mention someone is really nice and helps to get the attention of the person.
When you assign a task to an employee, you can follow when they start and when they finish and ask them about progress through comments. The section "my open issues" is just great to keep everything in the same place and work faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to use because you don't remember where is everything. It takes time to get into it.
I do not pay it and have no idea how much it costs but my coworkers mention that it costs per user so for big companies should be really expensive.
Training material is not that good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My company is reaching level 3 in CMMI for Services so JIRA help us to manage that and other projects. I mostly use the thing of assigning tasks to employees but some of my co workers use the flow and it is good that you can drag things from scheduled to done, for example.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
JIRA is really nice for project management, you can create profile for coworkers so they can see and work only in what they are suposed to.
Also, you can assign tasks to people and see if they have started or finished or if they are working on that.
Comments are also available and pretty useful.

Highly Customizable, Yet Made for Developers

  • May 04, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that JIRA has the ability to do nearly everything we need from it. One team at my company has taken this
What do you dislike about the product?
The permissions make it difficult to perform key actions, but not change things with system-wide impacts. I have accidentally dragged epics out of order, re-assigned tasks, etc. Perhaps it goes beyond permissions, but there seem to be some barriers missing to prevent impactful changes like these
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have broken down releases to roadmaps, epics, stories, tasks and so on. This level of organization would not be possible without the robust tools offered by JIRA

Great way to collaborate across teams

  • May 02, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
JIRA has a great way of visualization of workflow for bugs and feature implementations. It has a clean interface that accomplishes what we need it to accomplish. Very low on the "bells and whistles" category of features. It sets out to do a specific job for a company, and accomplishes that goal.
What do you dislike about the product?
The ZD plugin is cumbersome. It pushes in front of the ticket, and doesn't allow for easy filling out. You have to first set the info in a ticket, submit as internal, then you can autofill that information. This is a cumbersome process. There should be more customization for how that pop up behaves.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Development and bug workflow. Simple to see where things are.

What do you dislike about the product?

Project management and team communication, issue tracking these things can be done easily.

Complex but useful

  • April 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ticketing system and ability to add comments, files, links and so forth.
What do you dislike about the product?
The number of options to customise tickets is overwhelming, and at times with no clear guidance on how they work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Unstructured requests from departments. Jira allows for a one stop shop for requests, conversations and communications around the status of tickets.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a very robust and deep piece of engineering, but I'd heartily recommend training if you haven't' used it before: it can be overwhelming in it's complexity to new users.

The best way to stay Agile

  • April 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I'm a part of two development teams. One is working remotely in another city. There are analysts, front-end developers, back-end developers, product owners, scrum masters, testers etc. It would be impossible to perform our task as efficiently and fluently without a tool like JIRA.
What do you dislike about the product?
I appreciate the ability to customize the JIRA's interface, but I still find some options to be placed in places I would not think to look for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coordination of work between different team members.
Ability to share knowledge of tasks done.
A great log of work done in previous periods which is very helpful during the performance reviews.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
In my opinion the best tool to coordinate work of agile teams
