    Computer Software

User Friendly and Customizable

  • July 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I think that the wide variety of customizations and rules that can be created are the key features for Jira. Every team has its own requirements and this allows us to meet them. The dashboards are also very customizable so that some elements of workflow are more easily labeled for tracking purposes without a ton of backend work.
What do you dislike about the product?
It sends an insane number of email notifications. You can be involuntarily added as a watcher and then see the emails spawn endlessly until you go in and pull yourself off.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It does an excellent job of keeping requirements in one place. We really are aware of the action on the tickets that are important to us and the subtasks and other features of epic and story organization allow us to know related tasks as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do keep in mind that you need a skilled admin to take care of the customizations.

Bug Tracking at its best

  • July 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about Jira is being able to upload pictures so you can show what is specifically wrong to a developer. Being able to attach these pics as well as the ability to comment on the picture allows you to properly describe and show what issues are occurring.
What do you dislike about the product?
The most irritating thing about JIRA is that it is initially set up so that you recieve an email for each and every individual action that occurs. You end up with a billion JIRA emails in your inbox and you have to open each one to figure out what is going on
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use JIRA for software development. We outline our requirements and JIRA allows us to identity bugs so our developers can get to work fixing them. The benefits realized from using this software are time saving and resourcing. We don't need to be in the office to explain issues to others, and we can use the sprints and ticketing system to be able to resource out projects to individual developers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I haven't used any other software development tools, so my idea of this product is a little biased. As long as you're not doing super complicated software builds, it works as needed. There are a lot of customization you can use as well, but we don't do a whole lot of that. I'm also not sure how much it costs to use the software, but whatever we're paying for it is worth it.

Has some advantages, but overall soul-crushingly bad

  • July 28, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
Unique readable identifiers for issues based on projects. If you have a project called "TEST" and somebody reports the 123rd issue on that project, the issue will have the id "TEST-123". You can put that id into a URL and get to that issue. You'd be surprised how few other task managers support this neat behavior. Makes it very easy to, say, reference JIRA issues in GitHub commits.
What do you dislike about the product?
Clunky bloated UI and painful management. Atlassian is very good at selling product, but that means JIRA has everything and the kitchen sink baked into one UI with very little rhyme or reason. I'd imagine their sales team is good at getting people on-board by promising to add special one-off features for each customer.

Managing a JIRA deployment is also a nightmare. Weird limitations around number of users, managing gross legacy SQL databases, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There's very little benefit to using JIRA over GitHub issues, Trello, etc. It's cumbersome to manage and has a bloated UI. The big advantage is if you have someone on your team who's a JIRA power user, but if you're just getting started I wouldn't recommend JIRA.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're a programmer, save yourself the trouble and just use GitHub issues. If you're a product manager, Trello is better, as is Asana. Task management is a very crowded space with a lot of interchangeable alternatives, so why take the most expensive one?

Jira tool for project management

  • July 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is great tool to handle projects, mainly for the agile model. You can easily divide stories into multiple tasks and assign time lines. Also the reporting is very easy and filtering provides you all the required information. In short, it is perfect tool, to track requirements, progress, discussion all in one place.
What do you dislike about the product?
It becomes a bit tediuos when it comes for bug tracking, as it only provides limited phases a task can be into.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am currently managing a project using JIRA.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is great tool to use for project management. I have been using JIRA for Agile projects, but it may also support other project models to use.

Jira is very good for Development Process Management

  • July 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jira is currently the industry standard and that is because it is best in class and offers a way to get started quickly while still being customizable to your needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The overall UI of Jira can be frustrating at times (very clicky), but overall it's very useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use jira for tracking requests and needs within development. We also use it for bug reporting and bug resolution management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be prepared for some administration requirements.

JIRA is simple issue tracking system, yet powerful

  • July 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jira has a simple interface which can be customized to be very simple all the way to as detailed as you want it to be. Their customization to search issues also is very powerful and helps create very informative reports about the team.
What do you dislike about the product?
For one, the on premise version of Jira took some time to get properly configured but it eventually worked through all of the configurations. Now if you don't have the time; there are a number of consultant firms that will do it for you which I'd recommend if you want the job done quickly. So I hope in the future it will become simpler to install and have the software up quicker. I'd also like to see the interface to become more reactive. If Atlassian could model their interface to being reactive more like "Slack" I think it would easily become the management system of every startup in the country due to the otherwise powerful engine that Atlassian has created.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before JIRA it was Excel spreadsheets and a compilation of .txt files. It was difficult to keep up with everyone until we started using JIRA. And thus it gave us a system to keep track of requests from our users, but it also gave us the ability to keep each other accountable.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jira is highly customizable with the on-premise edition of JIRA. I'd highly recommend going that direction since most of the integration/add-on features will not work properly in the cloud based version of the software.
