JIRA is the ultimate in project planning
What do you like best about the product?
JIRA makes agile project management a breeze - providing transparency into each member of the team, time tracking, estimation and workflow.
What do you dislike about the product?
JIRA is a real pain to get the hang of. Training new team members that don't have experience with JIRA can be quite the task.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using JIRA to manage all of our projects - from user bug submissions to building new products and features. We can track and monitor each task in a detailed way.
Great tool for project and work managment
What do you like best about the product?
it has enough features needed. Better than board and papers to manage, log, create and assign tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
UI needs to simplify. To mark something as a duplicate for a non-admin person, he has to go through all steps.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Software development
Great away to communicate and work on projects across teams.
What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy the way you can create subtasks for certain projects and assign out work so you know who is response-able for each task. I also really like how easy it is to create boards to track all work being done on a project.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like that I can not add other members of my team as followers. Also it would be nice to be able to remove certain followers if I would like to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This has really helped with communication on projects, especially across different teams and for people working remotely.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great product
Helpful ticketing and project management tool, but can be confusing for amateurs.
What do you like best about the product?
Jira provides a tool that helps the team organize a big project (or even just a bunch of small tasks) into easy-to-accomplish small goals
What do you dislike about the product?
It's difficult to really utilize the sites capabilities unless you're familiar enough with how it works.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use jira for project management. My role juggles many projects all at the same time, and it is a helpful tool to organize and prioritize tasks.
Best for Engineers/Product Managers, Not Great for Helpdesk/Call Center
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to sort by project and to look for issues related to specific tags or product models. I also like the Add Watchers feature, so that I can add anyone who needs to be brought into the loop. It is very easy to link issues to better understand the relationships between them, and quickly see what dependencies exist.
What do you dislike about the product?
Comment formatting is a bit frustrating at times, as is the limited attachment size. We have to keep separate FTP sites running for code releases and reported bugs just to bypass the attachment size limits. It is not user-friendly enough for entry-level or call-center employees, and anyone looking for this sort of use would do better with other ticketing systems such as Clarify, Freshdesk, or Parature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jira is used as our internal ticketing system for engineering, project management, product management, and global IT. We additionally use an external instance for our customers outside of the US, as we are a multinational company with customers on 5 continents. The system makes it easy to collaborate with my engineers in Milan, Italy and Zielona Gora, Poland, as well as management in Katowice, Poland and Geneva, Switzerland.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
While JIRA is a robust and full-featured ticketing and project management solution, you would do well to fully evaluate multiple systems. Jira has its shortcomings in that it is not ideal for entry-level people who have no previous experience with ticketing systems or the specific search formats available within JIRA. I had my fair share of frustrations with the system as I tried to learn it, and I am a support specialist with nearly 12 years of experience with various ticketing systems. I would recommend JIRA for engineering and project management teams but would advise against it in a call center scenario.
