Currently using for tracking development projects and bug tracking
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the customized dashboards, ease of tracking projects and ability to associate time spend on various tasks within specific projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have been using JIRA for several years to track our developers time and progress on projects. I really do not have anything bad to say about the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before it was difficult to tell how much time various developers were spending on projects. we can not see who is spending time on what and it is much easier for team members to influence what projects get worked on first. bug tracking is easier for team members to 'watch' progress as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great program for bug tracking and product managment.
JIRA, a must-have tool for SW development teams
What do you like best about the product?
JIRA makes it easy to capture, assign, and set priorities to work and tasks. It is flexible, customizable, extensible and easy to learn. Many companies use Jira as their main project management tool, leaving more sophisticated project management tools like Microsoft Project for the project management professionals.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface is not very friendly.
Too many times, JIRA tickets are used as a replacement for planning. In software Engineering, you should plan on a white board, on paper, or using a planning tool like Microsoft Project. Then you should write the JIRA tickets to keep you on track, and then you should write the code. Missing the planning stage is a recipe for Agile or Waterfall disaster.

Planning.
Keeping track of tasks and defects.
Keeping track of work done, cancelled, in progress and to be done.
Keeping track of resources.

Keeping track of resources.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure JIRA is not the only project management tool used. Make sure planning is part of the process, not just managing tasks, defects and work. Detailled planning is easy to create and maintain. Make sure some baseline information is kept to and used during the review process at the end of a sprint or project.
Also, don't think that just installing and using JIRA is going to make your organization Agile. That is a common misunderstanding when people and teams start using JIRA. You still need to have a project manager or Scrum Master to guide and manage behaviors and outcomes.

Effective once you get used to it
What do you like best about the product?
Full fledged platform, highly known by developers and product managers across the SW industry so relatively short learning curve, rich in functionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes too rich in functionaolty, administration can get really complicated requiring a Jira expert. Also for small teams it can be pricy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing software release process: epics, user stories, bugs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you’re a small team starting a new project, try other simple tools first, see if you really need the full blown JIRA solution. Another valid consideration however is whether most of the team already know and feel comfortable with JIRA.
JIRA software review

I love Jira and I use JIRA for all my projects ..I've been using this from last 5 years
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish JIRA team would add more developer friendly tools to JIRA
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use this for managing my projects
Surprisingly Extensible
What do you like best about the product?
Jira is flexible and can be used as a single product to replace several tools, although it works best for tracking workflow.
What do you dislike about the product?
Using it outside of tracking workflow is serviceable, though it can be unintuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
JIRA is used to track what issues are being resolved and how they interact with each other, as well as how much time is being spent on each item. A more abstract benefit to JIRA is being able to divide tasks into discrete units and understand their relationship with one another.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
JIRA works surprisingly well for time tracking, as well as bug tracking, but additional features should be considered supplementary. The additional features are serviceable if you want to package several tools into a single product, but it shines when used for its intended purpose.
