Preferred over TFS

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease with which I can add tickets--epics, stories, defects, etc. I like the ability to tie my stories together to the overall epic, giving me both a detailed view of the work, and a high-level view of the feature work. I like the ability to add comments to a ticket to add details to a story as requirements change--something I couldn't do in my previous experience with Team Foundation Server. It's also much easier to build your own dashboard in JIRA.
What do you dislike about the product?
While I like the ability to build my own dashboard, I find the widgets either unwieldy (they're difficult to setup, based on filters I don't control, or they return no useful information) or not customizable enough. One widget gives me a big long list of defects. If I make an update to a defect on Page 2, the page refreshes, and now I'm back on Page 1. I have another widget showing me the numbers of defects in each bucket, but it's in numerical order, not in order by the buckets in my process. I want to know the number of defects at each step of the process, not which step has the most defects. I'd love a good defect aging widget, but the one I tried didn't return any information for the past 30 days.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My team is using JIRA to manage our product backlog--epics, stories, technical tickets, security / infrastructure, and defects. We're able to drag/drop stories from one bucket to the next to update its status in the pipeline easily. We're able to drag/drop stories in a single bucket to re-arrange them in priority order, dragging the most important work to the top of the list, without adding tags, labels, a "Priority" field, etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I've used JIRA, both before and after my experience with Team Foundation Server (TFS). I definitely prefer using JIRA to TFS. Requirements change, and I like the ability to capture those changes as comments in JIRA, without changing the original text of the ticket. As the ticket is updated, I can easily view the history of changes. Plus, when a ticket is updated, an email alert gets sent notifying watchers and assignees of the change.

JIRA Software

What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility with the ability to use workflows, this expands the capability of the product beyond agile software development.
What do you dislike about the product?
User management is overly complicated. If you share your JIRA instance with external companies you must be diligent in user access as it is easy to allow access to projects by mistake.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Beyond standard software development we have development an asset approval and tracking system. This helps with budget planning and renewals.

Good tool for bug tracking

  • December 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very simple tool for filing bugs. It can also be integrated with other tools like test management system, bamboo etc. Search is easy to use and filter based on the requirements but to do this the user must know little more handson. Like the functionality like adding watchers to the list. Easy to keep ppl in loop.
Easy to create dashboard and look at what we want.
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Search and filter is available, but the user should know how to use it. Some cases "=" works in some it doesn't. So it becomes a problem, for the first time user to easily think that search fetched nothing.
2. Triggered updates is little pain. Any new comment is sent out as a mail to everyone. Even small modification triggering mail is sometimes not good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easy tracking of the defect system as well managing the project. It is used for project planning, bug reviews and tracking.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Integrating all the Atlassian products like contour, tms, bamboo is the best part of using this jira. It is easy to maintain once you get hold of it.
