    E-Learning

Lots of features but no

  • December 31, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
JIRA has a large number of features so that you can probably figure out how to get what you need done. It provides flexibility to support a number of project management styles and has many integrations.
What do you dislike about the product?
JIRA has taken a kitchen sink approach to features, but seemingly hasn't put much focus on how those features interact with each other or how workflows can actually be used in practice. While JIRA does get the job done, there is a ton of overhead to actually using it -- so much so that many are put off from using it at all due to the time lost to maintaining it. In particular, there was many ways to view the same issues, but not every view exposes all of the necessary features. Exposing features is cumbersome and feels bolted on since they often appear only in certain contexts. The core features aren't always the most useful ones. The entire system is extremely slow, which is frustrating especially when you click into the wrong view and then have to go back and wait for it to load again. From editing individual tickets to editing mass quantities of tickets, it can be done, but everything takes 10 steps instead of 1. Search works, but only with a lot of custom filters, and the UI is atrocious.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use JIRA across our whole company to do project management, sprint planning and work estimation, and bug tracking. JIRA replaced a number of other solutions that individual teams across the company used, making it easier to track work and dependencies and provides a historical record.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try to find something simpler first -- the interface is clunky, slow, and time-consuming.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the collaboration tools, easy formatting for comments and descriptions, and the UI.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like how it can be hard to find different defects. Bugs and tasks can get lost easily.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaborating on making the product and experience better.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a go - it can help your company track bugs and get the most of fixing issues. It can be useful for getting everyone on the same page in software review. I enjoy how you can comment and mention other users from your company as well - it helps develop ownership and credit progress. Helps when you need to track down who owned what!

What do you like best about the product?
It is very visual in terms of where you should be looking, the menu items serve pretty well too.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not a whole lot, except changing the workflow to something you want is much harder than it needs to be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it to track sprints and bugs, to report how much was done each sprint in terms of story points.

User Friendly Project Development Tool

  • December 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Best part of this tool is Kanban Board, which I use regularly for tracking my development related features. I also like feature where we can interlink multiple tickets with one ticket if it's dependent that feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Customizing JIRA for specific project related activities is little intimidating, if you can make that process little user friendly it's will be great.
Eg: Giving a explanation link for sample videos for how to do it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Agile methodology for our project development. JIRA helps us to do Project Development workflow properly. It's easy to track and also divide the work in to different sprints.

    Information Technology and Services

Customisable is the biggest attribute and detriment of JIRA

  • December 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like being able to customize the functionality (fields, workflows, etc) to a very granular level to suit the team/project/program for which it is being utilizes.
What do you dislike about the product?
A lot of redundant settings on the admin side, a lot of redundant and confusing/similar menus on the user side. Also, the administration of custom fields and workflows can adversely affect functionality if one does not manually ensure there are no competing or conflicting settings.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to track multiple projects, prioritize efforts, calculate time to build, estimate team velocity and to track and resolve software issues.

    Hospital & Health Care

Very rich functionality

  • December 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
JIRA basically provides most of the functionalities that are needed for managing an IT project, including task, issue, workflow, work item assignment and monitoring. Web based interface is straightforward to understand. Look and feel is great. Dashboard is well organized.
What do you dislike about the product?
As an individual user in JIRA, it may be hard to find or reach a summary view of your items until you get used to JIRA. This is because JIRA is designed focusing on project or team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My team is using JIRA for task assignment, issue control, and team dashboard. It is well integrated with our email system so that all the issues may not get "lost" and always be notified and responded at right time by right person.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Unless your team has specific need, JIRA would be a safe choice of a issue management tool with rich functionalities, easy web interface, and good support.
