Appreciate Jira for making Agile easier
What do you like best about the product?
I don't have to use post-it notes. The board is accessible any time anywhere. Can easily sprint plan, review, retro, etc - all built-in functionality
What do you dislike about the product?
Support is nonexistent. You are referred to message board where you are lucky if someone else both had and solved the same problem you did
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using agile with distributed workforce - otherwise Agile wouldn't work with this team
Project Manager
What do you like best about the product?
The ease to organize teams and follow up projects and assignments. Best software ever.
What do you dislike about the product?
That not everyone has jumped on board and try to do something similar and fails to work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping my teams on their projects when each member is in another part of the world and tracking their assignments.
JIRA and Sprint Planning
What do you like best about the product?
My role involves a great deal of crossover between JIRA and Harvest, so the relatively seamless integration of the two products has been a big plus for me as I check timesheets and team member hours. The new update that shipped this week is absolutely fantastic -- we've been extremely happy with the updated UI and how much easier it's made it to find important taps.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many key JIRA features are not well marked and difficult to find (e.g., the VERSIONS and EPICS tabs on the Backlog). The update they pushed out this week is a BIG improvement on the previous design, but there are still some pesky idiosyncrasies (see above) that I wish they would improve. All in all, much better than the previous version we were running.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
JIRA is the core of our spring planning, and allows us to run effective sprints with minimal confusion. It's hugely important for our product owners and scrum masters, who rely on Jira to delegate and assign tasks in a centralized manner that everyone can see. The learning curve with Jira's UI is a bit steeper than Harvest's, but it's still better than any other product I have used before with respect to scrum team and task management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
JIRA is great for its links to Harvest, but it lags behind that product in terms of having an intuitive UI. However, for teams that work in scrum/agile, I think JIRA is an indispensable tool and would very much recommend that people check it out.
Very fine-grained organization can be overwhelming
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to open and track tickets across a wide variety of teams within the org was great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was a way to create a simplified portal for a user to open a ticket. We regularly use Jira to open internal support tickets, but users frequently mistakenly apply bogus info in a variety of fields. This occasionally results in things being missed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Issue tracking, feature requests, project management, Scrum tracking.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
After a brief foray into Rally, we'll be moving back to Jira soon. I think Jira makes it a little easier to control all the levers that can make the tool very useful, provided you can put the initial effort into developing the tools and processes.
Good Tool For Collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
The dashboard allows you to see exactly what is assigned to you and it is very easy to understand the fileds.
What do you dislike about the product?
You are able to edit fields and do not have to provide comments. Sometimes it is difficult to determine if or why a field is updated. I also do not think the linking feature is the best and could be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use JIRA to keep track of testing. Allows to see who is testing and how many cases they are managing.
All the features that you could ever need
What do you like best about the product?
Jira is very flexible and has all the options you could ever need. It is a complex system but once you get used to working in it you can manage your day-to-day with great ease.
What do you dislike about the product?
there is a slightly large learning curve in order to feel comfortable in working within Jira. Much the same as other programs, there is a lot going on with Jira and data fields and functionality and can be scary to navigate around in at first.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Prioritization has become a lot easier with Jira. It is a one stop shop for all tasks, projects you are working on. It gives our business our better look into what each department is working on.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure to take the time to orient yourself with the software so you know all the nuances. There is some set-up to get started but once you take the time to navigate and orient yourself to the software you will be happy with this product.
The Jira defect tracking tool is outdated
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to watch a ticket so that you receive notifications when the status changes is very helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
1) Tickets go directly into edit mode which causes unintentional changes to occur
2) The text formatting features could be more user friendly instead of requiring knowledge of HTML
2) The text formatting features could be more user friendly instead of requiring knowledge of HTML
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Jira to help with our defect, story, and test case management. Without it, we would need to obtain another product or tools to provide these functions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
In my experience I have found many alternatives that are far less outdated than Jira
Excellent for Testing!
What do you like best about the product?
The transparency of seeing all of the issues and bugs for our projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Mobile device experience is occasionally problematic.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Transparency for the entire project team.
the development management tool you need when Asana is not enough anymore
What do you like best about the product?
it's a very flexible tool that can be configured to accommodate the unique quirks that every company has in their software development workflow
What do you dislike about the product?
JIRA can get overwhelming at times, or even straight out confusing, so you will need someone on the team who knows their way around JIRA administration
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
i use it as a product manager to track the details of our software development process
Recommendations to others considering the product:
hire a JIRA consultant or make sure you have an experience member on your team who knows how to set up and manage JIRA
Make the most of JIRA
What do you like best about the product?
I like the simplicity of filling out a JIRA request
What do you dislike about the product?
Repetition of some fields. I think it would be just to not have to repeat.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Software glitches. When have a technical support issue it is easier to see the workflow.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Patience and the more info you have the easier it is
