Easy Platform for Sharing Tableau Dashboards

  • December 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to publish dashboards from Tableau desktop to Tableau Server in order to share them with users throughout my company. Tableau Server allows user access to be customized so people can view exactly what is relevant to them. Users can also download reports and dashboards for offline use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tableau Server can be slow at times depending on the internet connection. It is also somewhat glitchy at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau Server allows us to share dashboards and reports to users throughout the organization. It is easy to access via an internet connection and can be accessed using a computer or mobile device.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a lot of people that will be viewing Tableau dashboards this is a cost effective and easy way to do it. It is a much better option than emailing large Tableau files to each user.

Data Insights for Sales

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the customized reports the system makes into easy to use slide decks. I also like the level of depth into the data the system goes. We really like using it to dig into customer success and creating case studies for prospects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Depending on the report pulled, it can be very slow to load. Occasionally the reports are not easy to manipulate and need to be set up by an administrator.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it in sales heavily. The software allows us to demonstrate value of our services to our customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you have a strong set of data and take time to set up the most relevant reports.

Industry Standard Method of distributing Tableau Reports/Dashboards

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Full Permissions are able to be set right down to the data row level.
Easy to use interface to manage users, groups, permissions.
Extract Status pages easy to use
Ability to customize menus
Ability to embed dashboards into other applications
Ability to edit Dashboards from Tableau Server Interface (with sufficient permissions)
Ability to manage extracts/datasources from server interface
In built troubleshooting
Ability to create "sites"
What do you dislike about the product?
There are still issues with displaying dashboards with lots of data (despite what tableau show off at Tableau Conferences)
Could there be better extract interaction between Tableau Desktop and Server?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Needed a method of distributing Tableau Reports/Dashboards and make sure that different departments/parts of the organisation only had access to appropriate reports.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you have fully specified machines running your Tableau Server Instance
With regards to permissions it is best to set all your users to be Publishers then create a series of groups with names corresponding to the level of permissions that you wish to apply to your users.
Add your users into the various groups appropriately.
Apply groups to each project to apply permissions.

Tableau is the most easy-to-use and visually impressive data visualization tool I've ever used.

  • December 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The visuals are stunning! I've used a lot of different software for run and/or visualize data analytics and none of them come close to this level of quality in the output. It's also incredibly easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Automation isn't as simple/useful as it is with other software, such as R. Another strange, yet very real, dislike it that the software may be too easy to use. The only reason that's a problem is because I've see people without experience in data analytics/statistics create charts, interpret the results, and deliver very inaccurate insights to their DMs. This isn't really a problem with the software, but companies need to make sure that their analysis is run by qualified employees. It's also a big expensive, but maybe that's because I'm used to open source software (R).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We run analytics for other companies, and our clients are frequently blow away by the level of depth and quality of our reports. It's great with marketing/sales data, product data, operations/financial data, Research Data, and anything else you can throw at it. We use it most frequently to visualize Customer Lifetime Value to our clients.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Tableau offers a free trial. Download it and toss in some data to seem what it's capable of, how much better its output looks than other software's output, and how easy it is to use. Unless you need frequent automation, you'll like the product.

Makes tracking trends a cinch

  • December 26, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Salesforce takes all of the little bits and bobs that we used to have to track manually and puts them in one central location so we can accurately and quickly identify trends in customer base.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is frustrating to search for a name and have multiple entries pop up for the same customer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We'd been able to identify which leads re most likely to turn into paying customers, make that conversion and then anticipate future needs for them.

Tableau - the BI Giant

  • December 22, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Efficient servers are necessary in the business world today so that the vast quantities of information being transmitted to, through, and from businesses can be delivered to the right people at the right time. Servers need to transmit data, perform data analysis and manipulate data. The transformation of raw data into something meaningful and an insightful presentation of this data is crucial to a business’s success.Tableau Software provides a solution to this server need. In addition to their desktop, online and mobile products, Tableau delivers a server product called Tableau Server. Tableau Server provides solutions to all of the basic server needs while adding details that make it one of the best options on the market today. The Server operates by housing and sharing dashboards created in Tableau Desktop in a matter of minutes. These dashboards can be accessed by users from mobile devices like tablets and phones as well as from individual PCs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initial Data Preparation: Companies need to have strong technical skills to build the initial structure. This is typically done by IT or a consulting organization. Once the integration with the data source is done, though users with no or very little SQL knowledge can also access the tool create the dashboards and analyze data.
Features: Some argue that not all statistical features are provided by Tableau. Business–centric solution such as Tableau are used broadly throughout the organization, though they do have narrower set of capability.
Financial Reporting: Although great for analytical purposes, Tableau and other BI tools cannot replace Financial Reporting applications. This does require financial analyst to be proficient in a number of reporting tools and to use them interchangeably.

Can be cost prohibitive
Like most BI vendors, Tableau offers a few different software licensing options. There’s a free version of Tableau for personal use, but its functionality is limited. To download Tableau to your desktop, you’ll pay in the range of $1000 and $2000 per year. Online or hosted access to Tableau costs $500 per person, per year.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dashboard generation for Visual Analytics
