Trully devops

  • November 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We think the most important feature is plugin ecosystem, there's a plugin for everything. And if not, we could be deep dive and going to linux shell :)
Rundeck is lightweight and very stable, we use for many puporse, since running ansible playbooks in to our environment, deploy terraform projects, Jenkins integration, chatbot integration with Rundeck + Slack + Chatbot in order to delivery a job quickly to our users.
What do you dislike about the product?
A simple user authentication, token manipulation could be more easy. GIT integration to.
A declarative template for project or jobs creation should be help a lot in a infra as code strategy.
A kubernetes plugin could be more function, maybe look at cnfc incubator projects in order to converge with him.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Many issues was solved by rundeck jobs, up / down develop environment in cloud provider, kubernetes cluster operation, runs many ansible playbooks and terraform projects.
Manage google cloud enviroment using google sdk + rundeck shellfeatures.
Option function is really awesome and make a integration with Rundeck + my users more accurate.
Import / Export git plugin help me to convert my Rundeck efemeral.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Rundeck is a very powerful tool, with a few minutes you are able to run your jobs. The workflow process is very intuitive and easy to use. Ansible plugin is installed by default and capable to extend Rundeck functions.

Great tool for task automation

  • November 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Rundeck helped us get out of the pain of managing tons of jobs in crontabs across multiple servers. It is easy to integrate into our other tools such as Slack and Victorops.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't think of any issues at the moment. The biggest issues we had have been resolved in recent releases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes it much easier to know what is running, on what server, and keep track of task success.

What do you dislike about the product?
none, our teams were able to quickly get things in place for the setup
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our devops process was not working as desired , with Rundeck we were able to quickly get the process in place and stand up the system
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have the process in place for Devops before reaching out to Rundeck

Instant Admin Dashboard

  • November 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We did not have time to build a full fledged administrative dashboard for our technical customer support team. We were able to utilize Run Deck as a method to execute one-off scripts on our production servers and provide privileged tier-based access to the customer support SMEs so that they can execute these scripts. This represented substantial savings in engineering cost as an engineer is no longer necessary to solve these support tickets.
What do you dislike about the product?
There doesn't seem an easy way to kill a script once it has started running.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's ability to allow us to execute scripts on the server-side and provide access to our customer support team.

RUNDECK - Self service for everyone

  • November 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to take my existing scripts and self service common tasks for non technical users.
What do you dislike about the product?
For windows the documentation feels a little like it might be outdated, setting up things like LDAP and SSL took a fair amount of effort.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are giving users the power to refresh there own environments without needing to know how it all works under the hood. Also scheduling refreshes of dev environments.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just try it, I suspect you won't look back.

Great solution for on call

  • November 20, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
When it's 3:00 AM and you get paged to deal with some crazy issue, you don't want to worry about how to navigate through a clunky UI to access the information you need to remediate the problem. Pager Duty is very intuitive to use and has never gotten in the way of resolving an incident.

I've also had the pleasure of attending some conferences with talks by the Pager Duty team, and I think their own approach and commitment to product availability and resiliency is top notch. The worst thing this type of service could do is fail to page you when an actual incident is occurring; I'm quite confident that they're able to provide service when we need it.
What do you dislike about the product?
For the nature of my on-call, I often need to take application level remediation rather than just infrastructure remediation. When reading the page of related alerts for a particular incident, I've basically written a few JavaScript scripts that I can run in the browser in order to pull data from the web page into a more structured format. I would love if there were instead an easy way to export structured incident information directly from the UI -- we're sending JSON over to their API, so we ought to be able to get it back out. There are times when it's easier for me to dig through out logs to grab this type of data, but that's even more of a pain. I'd love to be able to get incident and alert info in just one click instead.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Pager Duty as our on call paging and incident management solution for our SaaS business. It helps us stay organized and recruit the right people to remediate incidents.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get developers on call with it. My primary role is in application development, but taking ownership for my product and being on call with it has been a fantastic growth experience.

Intuitive and Powerful

  • November 13, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to execute simple or complex solutions consistently. Also offers the ability to scale with our environment and fine tune at different levels for greater optimization. Integrates well with our other solutions ranging from VM/Server provisioning, to remediation playbooks.
What do you dislike about the product?
Greater documentation and examples around ruleset executions.

More internal utilities for managing the JVM/App tier. Filesystem logging on data around GC cycles, active heap, and other metadata.

Greater execution audit, the ability to easily search for all executions to a specific node, or by a specific user, all accross mutliple projects.

A rollup count to determine an executions success, IE if a job runs on 100 nodes but failes on 1, the job would show 99% successful instead of 0% successful. Additional runs could bubble equate into the agreggate percentages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rundeck is a utility we use throughout our enterprise for number of reasons. Executing scripts without logging on to a server is a great add. Add onto it the ability to execute powershell and integrate with powercli and we get a pretty good vm provisioning utility. We use it to rollout software, be it packages, configs, or kernel patches.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get the trial ASAP.

Automation for everyone

  • November 12, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Plugin architecture, cross-platform, log highlighting, complex workflows... they're all there.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing model. Want to make use of delegated running of jobs; need an expensive seat license to do it. How about a simple change? Unlimited job executors, seat-licensed job creators. That'd make continuing with the enterprise license a much easier sell to the bean counters.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coordinating production work between Amazon services, PostgreSQL databases, Windows and Linux servers. Providing ops staff with the ability to do systems operations on databases and production servers. Use AD signon to reduce authorisation complexity for staff.

Makes deployments easy and repeatable.

  • November 12, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Logs and ease of use. The ability to repeat tasks easily. I am able to create a single task that can then be linked by our jobs to help eliminate duplication of jobs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Mobile version unable to use. The modal is unable to be used because it is blocked out by the grey box.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Deployments and auditing.

Great tool for automation management

  • November 12, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Relatively intuitive. Once you set up your service, creating automations is pretty easy.
Users with no prior knowledge can execute jobs easily.
Great solution for centralizing all your automations in one place.
Log history and statistics for all executed jobs.
Great support team.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are still some missing features I need and takes a long time to add them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Running automations on multiple servers from a centralized location.
Most of my team members don't like running scripts or other tools via command line, so rundeck's UI is a great solution for them to run automations and reduces the load off of me.
