Program Manager in Health Services Research
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet saves me a ton of time collecting data from colleagues via forms, organizing data through reports, and sharing data with colleagues through dashboards and other published links. Our teams are dispersed, virtual teams that work across disciplines and institutions. Smartsheet keeps us connected in a way that MS Teams cannot.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downside of Smartsheet is the implementation burden of getting busy colleagues to adapt how they work to use it optimally. I rely heavily on forms because people are used to web forms, but it isn't easy to get extended team members to use other novel features, like the Update Requests. People are so busy that introducing a new tool, even one that can save time and energy in the long run is a heavy lift because the initial investment to learn how to use it is too daunting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet has provided a platform to manage projects collaboratively, allowing the workload to be distributed between team members. Smartsheet has also allowed us to visualize our workflows for executive leadership to effectively communicate progress toward current objectives and capacity for future objectives.
Utilizing has helped to increase productivity, define responsibilities, and enforce accountability
What do you like best about the product?
Most helpful part of utilizing smartsheets, is being able to lead a project from a central location for all stakeholders. I like to equate utilizing smartsheets as the same as creating an outline for your rough draft you, you see all your points and sources in the same location, and you are left with an amazing starting point. It makes it easy to see a project all the way through, and beyond implementation.
What do you dislike about the product?
The templates in SmartSheets are meant to be helpful, but often don't incorporate template for the various types of task that can be supported. I am often tasked with creating my own template to follow specific to the healthcare operations industry.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problem of collaboration across service lines and remote versus in-office staff is mediated by this centralized location allowing for proper collaboration with minimum inconvenience or confusion to the team members supporting the project.
LEAN with Smartsheet
What do you like best about the product?
Live, bi-directional functionality. Dashboards to display KPIs, reports relevant to the dashboard's audience and compile resources, including files and links. In comparison, Excel and SharePoint do not support autonomous teams as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've been able to leverage training and the community to work through all my obstacles except one. We have a particular use case where an accepted request then needs to populate some columns into a new sheet, and then certain cells in the new sheet need to be linked back to the "tracker" sheet where the requests live. We have been manually cell-linking to accomplish this, but because we do it for each accepted request, it would be great to find a way to automate it. I haven't identified a way to do this with information in the training modules or community, but I haven't yet submitted my question to the community, which will be my next step.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problems: missed deliverable dates, missed invoicing/billables, missed customer experience opportunities, missed employee engagement opportunities, and missed updates to processes/standard work.
By using Smartsheet we are increasing the efficacy of our communication, supporting autonomous completion of tasks/projects, and effectively delivering and billing for our work. The downstream impacts have materially benefited the customer experience and employee engagement.

Smartsheet is versatile and highly functional for project management but could be more intuitive
What do you like best about the product?
I like the forms that automatically populate rows on Smartsheet. I also light the many functions each column can serve. My company uses it to track a range of things: project timelines, reviews, data security, and new project start up.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't find Smartsheet particularly intuitive. There is a steep learning curve to feel comfortable with it and sometimes I can't find the sheet I want, if I don't favorite it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet allows easy communication between team members. It also creates easy communication between Smartsheet forms and project timelines. Smartsheet solves the problem of small to mid-sized company hands-on project management, where a set of steps must be taken for a deliverable to be ready on the date it is due.
Smartsheet as a daily PM Tool
What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful of using Smartsheets is the availability of access through a browser, making it easier to share with our customers. Great way to explain all project activities and has a friendly way to represent timelines and milestones achieved and summarize everything in a lovely presentation dashboard that updates live.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was challenging to find the correspondent formula to use during the plan and the constant refresh we needed to do to reflect the changes applied to the project. Not able to choose the correct time perspective, making it difficult to use it as a runbook experience for our customers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Use it as a project management portfolio; it is helpful for the project document repository, project plan, runbook, track of issues and risks, and to make sure the customer or the internal teams understand the day and time for the milestones to be achieved. It is the best solution to track daily activities effectively.
SmartSheet has our team on the same page
What do you like best about the product?
SmarSheet is incredibly easy to use, and it is easy on the eyes. We love the capability of switching views, and attaching files and links.
What do you dislike about the product?
One feature we would like to see is the possibilities of tabs to related sheets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Staying organized and on the same page.
Very Organized Application
What do you like best about the product?
I love to use it as a project management tool. I like the way it is user-friendly. It is helpful to keep everything in one place and control operating tasks. Keeping everyone on a project in check with one communication is essential. It is also great that Smartsheet integrates with OneNote.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pages should be able to update in real time. IT would be helpful if Smartsheet offered a free in depth tutorial on the overall system. It would be great to get certified in SmartSheet as well but it has to be affordable if your company isn't willing to pay for it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the keys to good project management is communication. Smartsheet allows for an easy, user-friendly way to communicate with key stakeholders. Use of Smartsheet has helped to set a standard of how everyone should organize their projects. Having multiple people utilize the tool allows for familiarity no matter which project manager you work with. It helps the users see the big picture and understand how their task(s) fit into the big picture.
Easy to get started, more advanced features are less obvious
What do you like best about the product?
User interface is simple & v similar to Microsoft Excel & other standard spreadsheets. I like the ability to comment, interact with other users and to tag users for actions.
What do you dislike about the product?
For someone unfamiliar, Smartsheet just looks like another spreadsheet application, with a different interface. There are more advanced features that are not intuitive, and only after someone shows me, did I know it was available to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a continuous set of documents that must be routed to different reviewers, and we use Smartsheet effectively for that. It's easy to tag the next reviewer, to do analysis on how long the reviewer had the document, etc. Separately, because it's easy to share project timelines and for simultaneous collaboration, I use Smartsheet for simple project schedules with task durations & dependencies.
Because of the collaborative nature of Smartsheet, I don't have to send multiple emails or merging comments together manually.

Smartsheet has been an integral part of all of our new departmental systems
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet enables fast, accurate, user-friendly data collection while providing robust data management tools on the backend. The ability to collect data from users in a way that does not enable them to see the backend and "cheat" the system to have things their way has been enormously useful. Parity with Excel is imperfect, but it is close enough that sheets can be easily exported to Excel for more powerful (goal seek, pivot tables, etc.) processing.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest flaw with Smartsheet is the way it handles complex formulae. The ability to reference the current row with the @ symbol and create column formulae went a long way to addressing this. However, formulae which must reference cells in rows above or below them will still break any time a row is deleted, moved, or inserted above. Data validation has also improved drastically recently, but more robust tools--such as being able to control the length of an input--would be welcome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet has enabled us to have a single, all-in-one place for all department business needs. Formerly, a multitude of different (often outdated) PDF and Excel-based forms were sent around via e-mail. By putting all of these in one place, Smartsheet has dramatically reduced the risk of a form being sent to the wrong person, and made requesting changes to forms a breeze.
Smartsheet is an excellent/robust workflow management tool that streamlines business processes.
What do you like best about the product?
There are many things that I like best about SmartSheets - here a few:
- the solutions center is amazing, it helps me think out of the box and understand what's possible
- that our instance of SS is HIPAA compliant
- that it is low/no-code
- it is easy to use

What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there were more healthcare and academic templates in the solution center. An option to schedule and reports would be amazing. I dislike the name, because it undersells the solution, smartsheets is so much more than a sheet! :-)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SmartSheets has enabled us to build secure workflows to: 1. manage the student provider absence request process. 2. manage academic integrity reports 3. manage HR position approval 4. Manage patient complaints
