Smartsheet is effective but not always intuitive
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to design effective, clean surveys and quickly view the results in spreadsheet form. This functionality makes it easy to collaborate with others on survey management.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not always find that smartsheet is intuitive for survey design. I like to make likert scale style questions, which can be done in smartsheet via multiple choice, but it is not as intuitive for the user. I prefer Survey Monkey's ability to create a 5 or 7 point likert scale question with clear descriptors for each option. Additionally I think the label vs. question title functionality is confusing. I would prefer that the survey by default show the entire question as the column header. Additionally, I like to create forced ranking questions in surveys, which is not possible in Smartsheets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I primarily use Smartsheet for surveys. The problem I'm trying to solve is how do I solicit feedback from a group and aggregate the results in one location that can be easily shared with other collaborators. Smartsheet is effective for surveys and I like the fact that it seamlessly integrates a form and sheet to easily view survey results.
Smartsheet is an amazing collaboration tool!
What do you like best about the product?
One of the most helpful things about Smartsheet is that it allows me to create projects with reports and dashboards. Having these features is extremely beneficial when I am needing to track progress and present this information to my team or management.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the downsides of using smartsheet is that the program is not known as well within my team and company, which deters them from wanting to utilize it. If we had better training and understanding within the program I believe this could be utilized for many more things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet is allowing me to track requests for multiple projects, while also assisting in sending emails through automated alerts. Not having to worry about sending an extra email is extremely beneficial for work productivity.
Like Excel on Steroids!
What do you like best about the product?
The usability. the sheets, the reports, the dashboards, and everything in between. These features make sharing internally and externally so much easier that the traditional Microsoft shared document route.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish that Smartsheet had the ability to have multiple tabs like Excel, pretty much the only feature Microsoft has over Smartsheet in my opinion. Yes, you can link sheets and create reports from multiple sheets, but sometimes you really just want and need a lot of info in one document.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We run a lot of projects that require the sharing of data from the project teams with our clients. Using Smartsheets allows us to share only what we feel we need to share and control access throughout the process. Additionally, we use a Smartsheet as a tracker for a lot of financial tracking, the connection with Power BI is super solid and user-friendly, which allows us to create amazing reports and dashboards using the available Smartsheet data.
Smartsheet is great for collaborating with colleagues on multiple projects
What do you like best about the product?
We like the accountability smartsheet gives so we know when and who updated the contents of a cell. We also like email notifications so we can get instant updates on when changes were made to a specific sheet.
What do you dislike about the product?
Our biggest issue with smartsheet is that we cannot control who can see what in a specific sheet. If the employee is shared on the sheet then they see EVERYTHING - which we find to be disappointing as we would love to be able to have management and employees using the same sheet with different views (access).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet helps us solve the business communication lag that most businesses struggle with. When our employees or colleagues update a specific smartsheet we get immediate notification about the change which gives us more power to review and respond to the update faster than with other applications.
I use Smartsheet for everything work and personal!
What do you like best about the product?
Tasked To function with email notifications and ability to create a report with all tasks from all sheets organized by due date. Comments function being easily integrated but doesn't clog up the sheet.
What do you dislike about the product?
Really just the cost - I work for an academic institution with tight purse strings. The culture of my workplace is relatively old school, so I am the only person on my team that uses it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am the program manager for two QI collaboratives that are multi-site, so there are many stakeholders and sub-projects involved that I need to keep track of. I am about to track everything I need to keep track of, and it is very easy to find the info in a few clicks. I have everything linked through Smartsheet (I still have to use Google, Dropbox, OneNote because that's what higher-ups prefer), so it makes a very well-organized homebase. Smarthseet has really just made me way more organized and increased my overall efficiency. I wish I could get other colleagues to use it, so I could better utilize the collaboration functions.
A powerful platform that allows scale in project, process, and product management.
What do you like best about the product?
I have used Smartsheet for about a decade now in three different employers and in very diverse settings. I love the tool's flexibility, from creating a requisition form for MRO spending to tracking individual product launch projects and from product sample form, vendor facing so you get all the information at one point to powerful BI dashboards which empower the executive team to make intelligent decisions.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a long list of great features and I would love to see a higher speed of development and release on that front as well as more specific templates. The latter could be industry or function-specific. One of the features that have now been released is data validation such as the email format of the phone number which had made my life so much easier when it comes to collecting information through forms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The flexibility that Smartsheet provides really supports the dynamic development of solutions without having to go through software development. Automating repetitive tasks through workflows, having an easy-to-access and navigate repository of information, and dashboards that quickly provide an overview of the current team workload and progress have provided much value.
Smartsheets is a Dynamic Support Tool
What do you like best about the product?
I like how Smartsheets offers several ways for me to view my data. I appreciate how easy it is to access things like cards, Gant sheets, and even excel style forms all for the same data set. They also make it very easy to flip between these different viewing styles, which helps me a lot when trying to visualize information in different ways.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be challenging to add sub-steps to a task or project that I've recorded in SmartSheets. It would be better if there were an easy way to create simple indents for sub-step information to help break up the data more when viewing it in Gant Charts or Excel Forms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheets is helping me by giving me a centralized location to document a large amount of project information and details. It helps me track deliverables and communicate deadlines and ownership to my team. It improves collaboration and communication.
Smartsheet for Project & task management
What do you like best about the product?
We use smartsheet for our project plans and task management. It works well to adjust things quickly as a project changes, keep up with to-do items, and mark things as complete. We can see from a high level view how far along we are in the project, and drill down to get more specific on tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing that I do not like about smartsheet is that there is a LOT to learn! There is really so much that you can do with it, it is hard to keep up with sometimes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Task management for each project is a huge thing for me. Smarhseet helps me keep up with each task that needs to be completed on each project, and in the timeline needed.
A great workflow system, but still room for improvement in terms of functionality
What do you like best about the product?
Our unit uses Smartsheet for a number of different purposes ranging from requesting and approving purchases to maintaining our up to date chart of accounts and internal grants. Setting up the workflows is user friendly and creating/managing forms also has worked really well for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Smartsheet is missing some of the user-friendliness of Excel and there isn't always a way of duplicating formulas between the two. Luckily, people in the forums can be very helpful in terms of troubleshooting how to get similar results.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet is expediting the way we request and receive approvals. Instead of having paper going back and forth between buildings and employees, we record proper approvals and maintain record retention for audit purposes. Cell history and the email approval system have both been great.
Great cloud based alternative for excel
What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful thing about Smartsheet is that multiple people can have access to the sheet at the same time. Changes are seamless, even with multiple users; you can tell who makes what changes. In addition, you can attach files and set reminders on individual lines.
What do you dislike about the product?
The least helpful thing about Smartsheet? I haven't found anything yet that I didn't like. If I'm being very nit-picky, which isn't that big of an issue, it is that you cannot hide lines, only delete them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Excel, only one person can change a document at a time. With Smartsheet, it is just as versatile as excel, but multiple users can access it and make changes as necessary. We have quite a few people that are in the same sheets daily. If/when someone makes a change, a notification pops up requesting that you refresh the document. It is very easy to use!
