Good platform to monitor news coverage for PR clients
What do you like best about the product?
Meltwater was very helpful in sending daily media monitor reports when I worked at my first public relations agency from 2013-2016, and I used them one for one primary client who was in the news very frequently. The client appreciated the daily updates, and since they were set for early in the morning we were able to relay any news, positive or negative, very quickly. The client often had frequent negative news so that was advantageous to share with the client and work on a holding statement immediately.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfortunately, Meltwater often missed a lot of news coverage and so it required that we hone our searches with them very frequently. They were often very receptive to our questions and issues, which we all appreciated but the missed news stories were so frequent that it made it difficult for me to necessarily recommend spending money on this when you could be tracking through another paid platform or free through Google news.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In public relations, sharing news coverage with clients is an essential part of your business with them. Being the first to share news coverage, positive or negative, is very, very important. Meltwater helped track news for this client and ensure we sent it over to them in a timely manner. As I mentioned, there are vast benefits but I do think that these benefits could be realized with other platforms, though I was not the one deciding whether or not to spend budget on it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider all your options for platforms when considering Meltwater. It is an expensive option, and while it could provide value for your clients and your agency, there could be better options. Google news is always a great option, for example!
Deceptive auto-renewal technique
What do you like best about the product?
The interface of Meltwater is very user-friendly and their Dashboard is helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Deceptive auto-renewal clause in their contract which was never communicated by the company nor the Sales Rep who actually throughout the first year of the contract tried to renew our subscription on multiple occasions, indicating that they need our permission to extend the length of the contract.
Very poor Customer service that is focused only on the gains for the company. Appalling e-mail contact.
The search feed received is way over the top and doesn't always correspond to set up the search. This is in order to boost the number of results so the end Customer has the feeling of good investment. In the end, your reporting will take much longer as you have to go through a lot of noise news which normally wouldn't appear in there in the first place.

I only realised how disgusting their business model is and how important is to not trust Meltwater.

What do you like best about the product?
Of course, the main challenge of this kind of tool is the coverage and I'm impressed by the quality and the efficiency of their listening.
Moreover, their analytics tools are well-though: it's easy to explore the data to find trends and important messages.
Finally, export tools (to pdf and/or ppt) are helpful to create dashboards and media reviews.

Query creation can quickly become complicated, but Linkfluence's teams are there to help.
The interface could be refreshed, and it is not possible to analyze a set of hand selected messages.

Helpful but TERRIBLE customer service
What do you like best about the product?
I like that you can have the program monitor for specific topics and it will alert you when new ones come up that may be of interest to you. It definitely helps you find points of conversation that you wouldn't otherwise be able to find through a traditional media search. I do believe it has some of the best technology for media monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
HORRIBLE customer service. Before I purchased Meltwater, I was receiving multiple calls PER DAY to buy their product. It almost made me not want to purchase the software, but I'd heard from other business professionals that it was worth the money and that they too had experienced multiple calls and bad customer service until they bought in.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was able to solve the issue of knowing what types of coverage our organization was receiving.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take your time and use the demos they provide to you. If you really want to see how this product is going to help your organization, you can also ask them to do a live demo with you and to show you search terms you are interested in. Meltwater's customer service is severely lacking, but the product works well.
Fantastic tool for PR professionals
What do you like best about the product?
The tools available with Meltwater are definitely powerful. We primarily use it for media tracking and social media tracking. But their customer service is amazing! I've never had an issue with reaching out to them for small things.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are so many extra - and very intriguing - features that are a little out of budget for the startup I work for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater helps us keep track of our media it allows me to organize my work to create a better experience for my clients.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would say that I highly recommend Meltwater to companies with lots of different projects going on at the same time.
Review of Meltwater for Media Monitoring and PR Analytics
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Meltwater helps our team track press hits for our clients in one place. The daily emails were extremely helpful, as I got a snapshot of the clips that posted the previous day without having to log into the platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
Meltwater a lot of the times mess press clips, so we have to do supplemental tracking to create a comprehensive report for our clients.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem it solves is tracking press clips for our clients. We used to use Google to search for press clips which can be time-consuming.

What do you like best about the product?
I love the robustness of the Meltwater platform. I can create all different types of queries to track different types of media mentions.
I also love that it sends me daily emails with a list of all our media mentions that I can customize myself.

Due to the robustness of the platform, there’s a slight learning curve for employees who have to learn how to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater is helping us organize and track all of our media mentions. Before we would rely on Google to track everything, and there were definitely pieces that slipped through the cracks. A benefit of Meltwater is that it’s helped us build partnerships with other businesses by seeing who is talking about our company already.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We’ve been happy with it since using it for 2 years. We have a great account manager who is very attentive to our needs and keeps us up to date with all the newest updates with Meltwater.
