Solid Edge offers powerful CAD tools with a smooth learning curve

  • August 21, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge provides a very intuitive user interface, making it easier to transition from other CAD tools. The synchronous technology is particularly helpful because it allows direct editing of models without having to dig through a complex feature tree, which speeds up design iterations. The integration with simulation and generative design tools is also valuable, as it allows me to check performance and optimize parts early in the design stage. I also appreciate that it supports a wide range of file formats, which makes collaboration with other software seamless. Overall, it’s a versatile and reliable tool for both design and analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Solid Edge is powerful, it can sometimes feel resource-heavy, especially when working with large assemblies, which slows down performance on less powerful machines. The licensing and installation process can also be a bit cumbersome compared to some cloud-based CAD solutions. Another limitation is that the simulation features, while good for basic analysis, aren’t as advanced as dedicated FEA packages, so I often need to export to another tool for more detailed studies. The learning resources are available, but some areas could benefit from more structured tutorials, especially for advanced functions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge helps me streamline the design-to-production workflow by combining 3D CAD modeling with built-in simulation and drafting tools. For mechanical design tasks, it reduces the time spent on iterative changes thanks to synchronous modeling, which makes edits more flexible. It also supports collaboration by allowing me to easily import/export multiple file formats, which is very useful when working with suppliers or different CAD systems. In academic and project environments, it has helped me quickly prototype parts, validate designs with FEA, and prepare accurate 2D manufacturing drawings. This saves both time and effort while improving overall design quality.

What do you like best about the product?
Perfect interface for Weldment designing.
The interface for parametric CAD designs in awesome.
Built in simulations and analysis is quick and easy. Results well presented. I usually use the Metal sheet and its very convenient.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not being able to perform mathematical operations directly from the interface.
The pop-up menus are very helpful but slows the flow of designing since as designers we require the speed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SolidWorks solves the problem of ease parametric designing, easy sketching and navigation. The features are that much and well arranged. I love the section to which these features are well positioned.

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge offers a very user-friendly interface compared to many other CAD platforms. The synchronous technology makes it easy to edit complex parts and assemblies without worrying too much about the original history tree, which saves a lot of time. It also has strong sheet metal and assembly tools, making it particularly useful for mechanical and HVAC design tasks. The integration with simulation, drafting, and PDM options helps create a smooth workflow from concept to production.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main downside is that it doesn’t have the same widespread industry adoption as tools like SolidWorks or AutoCAD, which can sometimes limit collaboration with external partners. The learning curve for synchronous technology can also be challenging at first, especially for users coming from traditional parametric modeling. In addition, some third-party plugins and libraries are not as extensive as those available for other CAD software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge helps solve the challenge of making fast design changes without needing to completely rebuild models, thanks to its synchronous technology. This saves a lot of time in iterative design processes and reduces frustration when clients request modifications. It also improves accuracy and efficiency in creating 2D drawings directly from 3D models, which cuts down on errors during manufacturing. For mechanical and HVAC design, it makes working with assemblies and sheet metal much easier, ensuring smoother workflows and faster project delivery. Overall, it helps me work more productively and confidently.

Performance feedback

  • August 20, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Solid Edge for CAD purposes and generally find it useful. Improving performance in handling large or complicated models would greatly enhance the overall experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
However, I often face challenges when working with large assemblies or complex parts. Opening these files can be slow, and it sometimes affects my ability to work efficiently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using Solid Edge allows me to create precise designs more efficiently and reduces errors during the design phase. The tools for modeling complex parts and assemblies, along with simulation capabilities, help me test and refine designs before manufacturing, saving both time and resources.

It is decent

  • August 20, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It combines the best of parametric and direct modeling. You can quickly push/pull geometry without worrying about history-tree order, but still apply constraints and dimensions when needed. It makes design changes much faster and more flexible than in purely history-based CAD.
What do you dislike about the product?
it takes time to unlearn the “strict history tree” mindset if you’re coming from SolidWorks. Sometimes I end up mixing sync + ordered features, which can feel confusing at first.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problems of rigid design workflows, disconnected tools, and poor handling of change. The big benefit is speed and flexibility in product development, especially when requirements evolve.

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge is very user-friendly, which makes it easy for me to update existing drawings without much hassle. The interface is clean and intuitive — great for daily use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes there’s a bit of server lag, which can slow down my workflow slightly and leads to late in job delivery Thats all, Remaining everything is awesome
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work as a Technical Assistant, and I mostly update existing drawings. Solid Edge, along with its additional Teamcenter plugins, helps streamline this process. It makes managing and revising files much more efficient and organized.

Flexible, Powerful, but with a Learning Curve

  • August 13, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Honestly, Solid Edge is pretty underrated. The Synchronous Tech is a game changer for quick edits, especially when you’re working with imported files. It’s got everything in one place — 2D drafting, 3D modeling, sheet metal, and even decent simulation tools built-in. Feels super versatile, and I love not having to jump between programs. Definitely one of those CAD tools that shines when you need flexibility.
What do you dislike about the product?
Solid Edge is powerful, but man, that learning curve can hit hard, especially if you’re coming from something like SolidWorks or Fusion. The interface feels a bit dated in places, and some tools aren’t as intuitive as they could be. It’s also not as popular in the CAD community, so finding tutorials or forum help can be trickier. Plus, the licensing can get expensive if you’re not on an educational or company plan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge makes updating mechanical designs way easier by letting me change parts without rebuilding everything. It also handles imported CAD files really well, so I can edit them like native parts. That saves a lot of time and keeps the whole design process running smoothly.
