Review of Varonis
What do you like best about the product?
The Varonis data security platform is very effective at identifying unusual activity across multiple sources and provides the necessary details to either take action ourselves or allow it to take action for us through automation. The ability to research who made changes to files or Active Directory is much better and quicker than we could do on our own. Their MDDR monitoring and incident response team gives us the confidence that our environment is being monitored 24x7.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really comes to mind. They are not inexpensive, but you definitely get what you pay for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is helping us with Active Directory management by identifying unusual activity, stale user and compute accounts, and other issues related to passwords and groups. It helps with data management by identifying stale data, both on premise and in the cloud, as well as over-exposed sensitive data.
Varonis: Visibility for data security
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to report on where data is living, the status, the access (and what AI is trying to touch) - the ease of navigating the UI and the ability to test changes to see what would be impacted and how. It also provides the ability to schedule reports for various things and it has automated responses to help secure the environment and data without manually responding to things (also provides ease of use for setting up items in Purview since they are all about data security and constantly updating their side as laws get updated)
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not the easiest to set up - there are a lot of moving parts that need to be done correctly for the service account to walk correctly - but their customer support is absolutely fantastic as are their engineers - which makes the stress of dealing with that much easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
reporting on where data is, stale data, duplicate data, overexposure, auditing on when people do things and it this alone has helped us align with audits, removing unneeded or unused access and helped us clean up shared drives

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
What the users in the organization are accessing.
Data is the new gold

Easy to use reporting and information presentation with minimal initial configuration overhead.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some functionality assumes higher level of business maturity to fully leverage the benefits. Ie - the business is not mature enough to recognize data is the new gold and instead are still focused on perimeter security.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Visibility and response to data and role based action against business assets.
Nice for data security.

Access to data and alerts. Web UI is fairly useful.

Sorting and exporting reports/saved searches.

We have a analysis available to us anytime. Makes tracking problems down easy with help of AI. Able to automate several remediation problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost of course. Always like to keep the budget low. =)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Able to simply detection by combing through billions of events and alerting on important events only. Plus correlating events to tell a story.
Varonis is the leader for scanning unstructured data with a robust classification rule set
What do you like best about the product?
Continue growth of the product to address relevant data security concerns in todays world.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would love flexibility to create our own reports vs using OOB templates. (On prem). SaaS version has some limitations with reporting but Varonis Services is working with us to get what we need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Identifying where sensitive may be, what permissions and who has accessed. Dashboards provide additional information on landscape such as stale data

The high price tag of the product and the fact that onprem is essentially deprecated and forcing our hand
