Sensational Collaborative Tool

  • April 25, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
From the set up of a pages to creating the structure of a Confluence space, I have found Confluence to be incredibly easy to use. As part of the Atlassian suite, the integration with Jira is a great added bonus. The control panel makes for quickly formatting the rich text.

One of my favorite parts is the customization of templates. The feature I have used most often is the recurring use of the customized Meeting Notes template. It has proved to be an effective means for presenting to meeting attendees what was discussed and decided upon. Relating to that is what I like to consider as a hidden gem of Confluence - the consolidation of the action items from different meetings.
What do you dislike about the product?
There really isn't much. I guess one thing to call out would be around creating tables. It is very difficult to see the borders of the columns and rows. I find that I can struggle to know where to be entering the text within a cell. It was be nice if there were options to select the thickness of the lines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our project team had a need for a collaborative environment where members could share information to help educate one another. One key benefit I have come to realize is the ability to define permissions for which team members could access each page.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jump in feet first. You will not regret pursuing the use of Confluence for your projects and company as a whole.

What do you dislike about the product?
Navigation between pages could be smoother. It works well when you know what you're looking for, but can be difficult to search more broadly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've established an effective knowledge management system to maintain and expand upon our institutional knowledge.

    Computer Software

Works okay for code documentation but could be better

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the native integration with JIRA tasks, and being able to structure code blocks in the document itself. You can add lists pretty easily, and they have support for many different language. They have a relatively simple and useful WYSIWYG toolbar for the document editor, which is nice and convenient.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the fact that it can be super buggy or even unresponsive in browsers other than Chrome. It makes it hard developing cross-browser applications and sites without having to switch and use multiple browsers at the same time. I have had it load very slowly and even crash several times on Firefox while trying to edit a simple page with a small paragraph of text on it. Not to mention that it can be hard to find the pages/documents you are looking for at times because the layout and structure of the pages can be relatively arbitrary and hard to link up together. I wish it could be organized by project, but I think you have to create them yourself, it seems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Confluence for organizing product processes, allowing for better development workflows by creating proper documentation for releases and new product features, collaboration on releases and documentation in general so that the development workflow is done correctly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are better documentation softwares, but this is the only one so far that I know have native JIRA integration. So if you are using Atlassian products anyways, this is a good way to go.

Great collaborative software with many uses

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great collaborative software that operates intuitively like a word processing document or wiki page; allows multiple user to edit simultaneously and is available in a cloud so that it can be accessed remotely if working out of the office; has great organizational abilities where each department can create their own space and subsequent hierarchy of documents ; also love the tagging users feature and task assignments which make it easy to stay on top of things that were mentioned in meetings great
What do you dislike about the product?
At this time there is nothing that I currently do not like. If I had to pick one thing it would be that I do not know yet how to create a checkbox to assign someone a task within a document.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Able to collaboratively work and edit pages like in a manual . Also able to effectively take meeting notes and assign team members tasks

It is really easy to edit documents and publish them so other teams can view.

Great free collab workspace

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Conflunace is a great workspace that allows you to keep all your docs in one place. It's easy to set up, navigate and use. It has decent visual tools, interlinking and ability to set up permission for access are a big plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's rather hard to customize pages, and the navigation or set up of it is very confusing at times. More than several times load time was less than ideal. While it's fairly straightforward to use, it does require training and learning, since it can be confusing at the beginning. .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Confluence as a central source for new hire documentation, to keep track of sprints, releases and retrospectives. Our QA keeps test plans and QA results along with release dates, so we can interlink them to the sprint overview for ease of access.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It could be a rocky start and may require training, but it's a great product especially if you use JIRA

What do you dislike about the product?

Knowledge sharing and FAQ.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try using templates for meeting notes with action items, FAQ pages, etc.

    Internet

Easy to use

  • April 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is a very easy-to-use interface that allows both inexperienced web developers to create web pages as well as experienced users the option of using raw HTML code for the features that are not available in the GUI. There are options for others to comment on or "like" your page. The permissions feature of the pages allow you to limit the page on a fairly granular level.
What do you dislike about the product?
The page layout options are not as flexible. It would be helpful to have more page layout options that allow for creative placement of Jpegs to liven up the page. Inherited permissions are not obvious when looking at a child page. Adding visibility of the "real" permissions at every page would be helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Confluence for internal web content. It is easy to roll out content with Confluence, so user time can be better spent on other job requirements than documentation. The learning curve is fairly small with minimal instruction needed to start creating pages.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If your user base is mostly developers, this is a good product, because developers will spend less time on documenting and more time on developing. It is also a good product if you don't have a lot of web content staff.
