Reliable Automated Data Pipelines with FME
What do you like best about the product?
FEM every day to build repeatable pipelines that pull data from our internal databases, combine it with GIS layers and push the results to our cloud systems. Once everything is set up, it just runs, which is exactly what we need. The scheduling and automation side is where it helps us the most. It also fits in well with our existing tools without requiring major changes FME sits in the middle and makes that workflows possible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its not something I reach for when I just need a fast fix, because even a small change can like it requires too much setup. Also, when something fails partway through the process, the logs aren’t always clear enough about what went wrong.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
FME eliminates many of the manual steps involved in preparing and moving data between systems. It has helped us keep our reporting timelines on track and reduced our reliance on one off scripts. It has significantly cut down on manual prep work and made our outputs more consistent from one project to the next.
Easy Access to Multiple Data Formats and Smooth Data Manipulation
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to access multiple data formats and manipulate the data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not easy to choose the best transformer when there are too many similar transformers, for example, to add, remove, or rename attributes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it primarily to migrate geodata between data models and to access REST services to perform administrative tasks on systems.
Effortless Data Transformation and Integration
What do you like best about the product?
I use the FME Platform primarily for manipulating data, especially with keys and geographical content, in my work in the road sector. It's great for importing and exporting data into our road management system. FME helps solve many problems like getting different formats with attributes assigned to the centerlines of roads. It allows me to prepare data, match it to our database, and solve various data-related tasks. For instance, I can match line snippets with velocity to our road network and make transformations or workflows for specific use cases. The initial setup of FME was very easy, which is something I liked about it.
What do you dislike about the product?
The layout of the workflows in FME Platform could be more compact. When I have a large ETL workflow for pure data transformation without keys, I find Apache Hub creates a better workflow layout. It looks nicer and is more compact, making the workflows easier to manage. I wish FME offered an easier way to do mock-ups and reuse them. Also, I'd like a developer license for FME Flow to experiment locally without relying on the company's license. This would help prepare and upload workflows more efficiently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use FME Platform for data manipulation, importing, and exporting in road management. It handles different file formats with attributes for road centerlines, aligning data with velocity snippets to our road network, streamlining geographical content processing.

Automation of ETL tasks - including data integrations and drone/satellite imagery processing
Set-and-Forget Workflows with Unmatched Format Support
What do you like best about the product?
I mainly use FME to connect our PostGIS database with ArcGIS and to work with the CSV dumps we get from vendors. Once I’ve set up a workflow, it easy much runs on its own and I don’t have to think about it again. For me, the biggest win is the format support it can tead almost anything I throw at it.
What do you dislike about the product?
FME, you really have to understand where each transformer should go, otherwise, you can end up revisiting and reworking parts of the workflow. I like able to reuse templates for similar projects, since that helps me keep things consistent fron one job to the next.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It reduces the amount of manual cleaning and formatting I have to do departments. Thats made delivery timelines more predictable and helped cut down on last minute fixes before I share outputs. Its also much easier to reuse the same workflows across projects, rather than starting from scratch every time.
FME Workflows That Just Run—Powerful Data Transformations, Less Stress
What do you like best about the product?
FME some days everything feels urgent at once clients deadline internal updates last minute changes FME helps because once workflows are set up, they just simply run. I don’t have to worry about whether the data will match or not. Which gives me a bit of breathing room in a fast paced environment the transformation capabilities are strong you can shape data exactly the way i need it.
What do you dislike about the product?
It removes manual bottlenecks and helps us meet deadlines without compromising data quality and more complex data handling and reduce the effort needed to prepare data for delivery.

It helps eliminate manual bottlenecks and enables us to meet deadlines without compromising data quality. It also manages more complex data workflows and cuts down on the effort required to prepare data for delivery which makes the overall process smoother, more reliable.
FME Makes Data Prep Easy—Even Without a Technical Background
What do you like best about the product?
I don’t come from a technical background but after using FME for a while it feels like i have a system handling the backend work for me. I am able pull data from different tools clean it up and get it ready for presentations without having to rely on other people.
The workflow are straightforward and once you get used to them, they make a lot of sense.

What do you dislike about the product?
At times when something breaks it takes a bit of
digging to pinpoint what’s going on. In this role, reliability matters a lot so having to spend extra time tracking down the issues can be frustrating.

FME Makes Data Shaping and Cross-Source Integration Easy
What do you like best about the product?
FME coming from a SQL background I really like how FME lets me pull data straight from from our database and shape it without having to write down a long queries in every time. I still use SQL when itself needed but FME helps the bridge gap when i need to combine database data with Excel sheets or ATS exports. The workflow view also makes it much easier to show and explain what i am doing in team meetings rather than walking everyone through queries line by line.
What do you dislike about the product?
A lot of the time it feels quicker for me to write a query than to build the same logic in FME especially when its a smaller tasks. Even so what I really appreciate is being able to pull information from different places and clean it all within one flow in the end that single streamlined process saves a lot of time overall.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It saves me from having to combine database data with hiring data from other tools which keeps my reporting reporting cleaner and easier to share with non technical stakeholders. The intuitive visual interface gives me a clear high level overview and features like bookmarks and custom transformers help streamline the overall data workflow from start to finish.
Exceptional CAD-to-GIS Conversion with Fast Performance and Excellent Local Support
What do you like best about the product?
I use FME primarily to convert data between CAD and GIS formats, and it performs this task exceptionally well. The platform is user-friendly and delivers reliable, high-quality results when integrating CAD and GIS datasets.
Performance is another strong point—data processing is fast and efficient, even for larger workflows. In terms of value, the pricing is quite reasonable compared to the capabilities it offers.
Additionally, the local support from Safe Software representatives here in Auckland has been excellent, providing timely and helpful assistance when needed.
Although I haven’t yet had the opportunity to fully use the AI or intelligence features, their potential stands out. The platform appears to offer promising smart and automated capabilities, and I’m keen to explore how these AI-powered functions can enhance and streamline our workflows in the future.

What do you dislike about the product?
One area for improvement in FME is the user interface, which can feel complex and slightly outdated, especially for new users. While the platform is very powerful, there is a learning curve to fully understand how to build efficient and maintainable workflows.
In addition, debugging and troubleshooting complex workspaces can sometimes be time-consuming, particularly when handling large datasets or intricate transformations between CAD and GIS formats.
In addition, debugging and troubleshooting complex workspaces can sometimes be time-consuming, particularly when handling large datasets or intricate transformations between CAD and GIS formats.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
FME solves the challenge of integrating and transforming data across different systems and formats—particularly between CAD and GIS, which are often not directly compatible.
In my work, data from consultants and contractors typically comes in CAD formats and requires significant cleaning, restructuring, and conversion before it can be used effectively in GIS. FME enables us not only to transform this data, but also to integrate it into our existing GIS environment and broader data ecosystem in a consistent and structured way.
This integration capability ensures that data flows more seamlessly between design, GIS, and other systems, reducing silos and improving overall data accessibility. By automating these processes, FME significantly reduces manual effort, minimises errors, and improves data quality.
