Makes sharing and collaboration on files easy
What is our primary use case?
I use Dropbox primarily for exchanging data with customers.
What is most valuable?
What I like about Dropbox is how easy it is to share and collaborate on files with customers. It is straightforward and works seamlessly.
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement in Dropbox's security measures. Some customers opt for a private solution they have developed because they prioritize a higher level of security.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dropbox for a few months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have not had any major stability issues with Dropbox.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability isn't a top priority for our needs at the moment, so we haven't specifically requested high scalability for our storage. Typically, custom solutions aren't inherently very scalable. This is why integrating with a cloud solution like Dropbox makes sense for us - it offers the scalability we might need in the future without worrying about it. At our company, we have teams of five to ten people in larger groups with around 100-150 users. It helps us cater to different-sized teams and projects.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very simple. Setting up our solution doesn't require a big team; usually, a couple of people are enough for deployment. One person handles the project deployment, and we use internal resources for ongoing maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Dropbox is fairly priced with a yearly license.
What other advice do I have?
I wouldn't recommend Dropbox based on my experience. For customers and managers dealing with scientific data, a custom solution might be preferable, and that is why we lean towards it. Even if someone is considering a shift to the cloud, we prefer a more tailored approach rather than using Dropbox. Overall, I would rate Dropbox as an eight out of ten.
