Offers ROI and has an easy setup phase

  • August 27, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company's data center, so I use ethernet switches.

What is most valuable?

The tool's most valuable feature is its cost per port compared to what other vendors offer.

What needs improvement?

A lack of skills across multiple teams is a concern when it comes to Arista Networks Platform. Arista Networks Platform isn't one of the major players. Even though Arista's operating system looks very much like Cisco, it isn't so. A weakness would be that in our company, we don't have many people within our team who support the product because there are different vendors, and most of them are not tier-one vendors, so the skills required sometimes are just not there. With Cisco, everyone is certified by Cisco in the area of DC.

There are some commands in the tool which I don't understand because I am a Cisco person. Everything that we need for it to do, it does quite well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Arista Networks Platform for five to six years. My company has a partnership with Arista.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In my company, we have a global team of 12 people, and we have a global workforce of about 5,500 people.

We may expand the tool as we are currently setting up new data centers in Europe.

How are customer service and support?

I have never contacted the technical support for the solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Cisco and pretty much all the big vendors. I have used Cisco, Juniper, Dell, and HP for storage. My company started to use Arista Networks Platform as it helped with the cost-savings part.

How was the initial setup?

The product's implementation phase was easy.

For each site, the solution can be deployed in a week.

What was our ROI?

I am satisfied with the tool's ROI. If you compare Arista Networks Platform to Cisco NAC, Cisco DNAC, or even Cisco DNA, the tool is almost 50 percent cheaper. It offers huge cost-saving benefits. I work in a global company with over 500 sites. Our data centers are fairly robust, and they are at a global level. You can imagine the sort of cost savings we would have if we had four of the switches from Arista per data center running six days a week so there would be a huge cost-saving benefit.

What other advice do I have?

I am satisfied with the tool.

Arista's EOS has not really helped solve a complex network challenge.

AI as a platform is nowhere near stable enough to be used in a real network.

I recommend the tool to others.

I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Provides a stable infrastructure and good support services

  • July 29, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is most valuable?

Arista provides a stable infrastructure, and the devices' performance and throughput are higher than expected. It offers good support services as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Arista Networks Platform for two years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The platform is easy to scale, but since the deployment, there has been no need or requirement to expand the infrastructure. I believe scalability will be easy whenever it's required.

How are customer service and support?

We have a team to maintain the infrastructure and a support agreement with Arista in case of any issues. They respond immediately.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used Cisco and HP as well.

Both companies provide similar services, but Arista's support services are much better than Cisco's.

How was the initial setup?

We provided professional service to the vendor and encountered no issues during the installation and deployment. It took less than four months to complete the process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Network devices are generally expensive. However, during the evaluation, Arista was the most inexpensive vendor.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Arista Networks Platform a nine out of ten.

Enhances network security and reliability, but the cost is too high

  • June 17, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is most valuable?

In Arista Networks Platform, the network building is very good. It is also a wireless network tool, so it can be easily made available for our customers in hours for multiple data centers.

For network scaling, it is very easy to adhere to and configure the benefits in the network insights. There is nothing complex since you just add the node and upload the profile, so it is very simplified. Integration process. The integration on a new host is sometimes tricky, but Arista Networks Platform's integration is straightforward.

What needs improvement?

From VMware, I think the cost of the tools is very high. I think the cost of the tool may have a global impact.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Arista Networks Platform for two or three years. My company has a partnership with VMware.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution since the last few months that I have been using the product, I have not seen any hiccups in the tool. There is no issue from the stability point.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a very scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for the solution is good whenever needed, though my company has faced very few issues with the tool. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

If one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the product's initial setup phase as an eight out of ten.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model in our company's data centers.

The entire VMware stack can be deployed in two or three weeks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the product price as seven out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

The tool enhances our company's network security and reliability because it has functionalities that prevent all the zero-day attack mechanisms in a particular zone. The tool's core benefit right now is its process security. If someone uses Arista Networks Platform, I believe they are secured.

The tool is a global platform from VMware, even though Broadcom has acquired it. VMware and Broadcom's partnership needs to be stopped. Customers have moved away from VMware after its partnership with Broadcom.

I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Affordable for enterprise-sized companies

  • February 12, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I used to use Arista Networks Platform as it was deployed in a big data center.

What is most valuable?

The product's CLI is similar to what Cisco offers. There is one image for all products that fall under Arista Networks Platform. The aforementioned areas can be considered as aspects that I like the most above the product.

What needs improvement?

The product fails to offer functions related to cloud orchestration, making it in areas where improvements are required.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Arista Networks Platform for years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution, considering how it was selected by a banking organization. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

In my current company, no one uses the product. In the previous company, which had branches spread across the world, there were around 1,00,000 uses of the product.

How are customer service and support?

I have experience with the solution's technical support. The response from the product's support team was at a much faster rate than what was expected. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

My company did not evaluate other options against Arista Networks Platform.

How was the initial setup?

I was not involved in the deployment of the product. The setup process is easy if you are experienced with the tool.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Arista Networks Platform was cheaper than Cisco. I have heard that the product is affordable for enterprise-sized companies.

What other advice do I have?

Speaking about whether the product enhanced our company's data center scalability, I would say that it was a solution that was used in a banking company, where it served as a replacement for Cisco. Though Arista Networks Platform is similar to Cisco IOS CLI, I feel that the former product offers better prices compared to the latter tool. Arista Networks Platform office is more efficient at a lower cost.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it.

The tool is stable and cheaper than Cisco.

I would say that Arista Networks Platform is 100 percent compatible with the existing infrastructure in my company.

The impact of the tool's network telemetry on our company's troubleshooting practices was just good for the scope for which I need the product.

I rate the overall tool a nine out of ten.

Though it requires only a straightforward setup phase, the interoperability part needs improvement

  • February 09, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used in my company to ensure that we have access to the switches.

What is most valuable?

In general, the most valuable features of the product are related to its prices along with the technology that it offers to its users.

What needs improvement?

The solution should look at offering Power over Ethernet (PoE) for multiple different models in the future, as it is one area where the product currently lacks.

The stability of the product is an area where certain improvements are required.

The product is scalable. My company does face issues in terms of interoperability when it comes to the product, making it an area that needs to be fixed.

There is a scope for improvement in the integration capabilities offered by the product, especially considering its ability to integrate with our company's existing infrastructure.

In Arista Networks Platform, there are some issues when it comes to interoperability where it needs to improve.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Arista Networks Platform for a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product's scalability is good.

The entire organization uses the product since it is deployed in the data center. There are around 100 users of the product.

There are currently no significant plans to increase the number of users of the product.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was straightforward.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

My company follows the ITIL process to deploy the product. I cannot go through each and every step. The framework during the product's deployment was an ITIL framework.

In my company, there are other technologies apart from Arista Networks Platform that are being managed by the same teams. In short, there is no specific team to just manage Arista Networks Platform.

What about the implementation team?

The product's installation can be managed with the help of our company's in-house team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing charges of the product.

I rate the product price a seven on a scale of one to ten where ten is high price and one is low price.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing charges of the product.

I rate the product price a seven on a scale of one to ten where ten is high price and one is low price.

What other advice do I have?

The solution enhances the data center's scalability as it helped our company build environments where there were a lot of network blocks.

I cannot share my experience in the cloud environment where the solution helps in cloud computing deployment. For the on-premises environment within data centers, my company was able to use Arista Networks Platform.

Arista's technologies related to switches and CloudVision Portal (CVP) are the most valuable functions of the product that improved my company's network performance.

The product's features like ZTP are good and have benefited our IT operations. My organization is not a retail company. In the current organization where I work, we don't get to leverage ZTP at a very large scale or deploy the tool within the data center. In our company, we use ZTP occasionally.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it.

The product is good and is evolving, making it worth giving a try.

I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten.

Excellent for controlling access, blocking malware sites, and managing web filtering to keep users focused

  • November 06, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Arista Networks is my go-to for network security at work. It is excellent for controlling access, blocking malware sites, and managing web filtering to keep users focused.

What is most valuable?

The user-friendly policy manager lets us apply different controls for various user groups easily. Plus, deployment is a breeze, and if issues arise, restoring a backup takes just 30 minutes. Arista has become a reliable and efficient solution for our network security requirements.

What needs improvement?

In my view, Arista could enhance the Wide Area Network balancer and failover. While the failover is swift, less than five seconds, it tends to be overly sensitive, triggering unnecessary alarms and emails. A smoother transition between ISPs during failover would improve the user experience by reducing unnecessary notifications and interruptions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Arista Networks Platform for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been outstanding. There is no lagging or crashing, and downtime is minimal, usually only required for significant updates. The system maintains a detailed uptime record, and despite hearing about potential issues, I have never personally experienced any.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Arista Networks is highly scalable, especially when it comes to VRP routing. Handling VRP routing requires some expertise, but for general use, configuration, and maintenance, the platform is surprisingly user-friendly. The GUI is one of the most intuitive interfaces I have encountered, making everyday tasks straightforward to manage.

How are customer service and support?

Arista's tech support is impressive. They typically respond in less than two hours with effective solutions. The only consideration is the fee for support, which might be an issue for some, especially if not factored into the initial purchase. However, their support offerings are transparent, with clear options available during the checkout process. Overall, I would rate the support as a nine out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

Deploying Arista Networks is a one-person task, and it is straightforward. Deploying it from scratch, including downloading the main ISO for the AVO file, typically takes around 35 minutes. Before diving in, ensuring compatibility with OEM layers like Bitdefender is key. The platform is backed by 85 million sensors globally, offering robust internet security, including malware solutions. Arista's user-friendly interface makes it easy to implement comprehensive security policies across different layers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I find Arista's pricing to be good. While it is not the cheapest, it's more affordable than Cisco or Palo Alto, offering a comprehensive solution that includes everything I need. There are no false alarms or unexpected fees, making it a cost-effective choice for the features and reliability it delivers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I considered Meraki, CentOS, ClearOps, and SonicWall, before choosing Arista. Arista stood out for its flexible security suite with automatic alerts, unlike other options that felt manual and less comprehensive. My past experiences with Arista and as an MSP recommending solutions to clients confirmed its reliability and effectiveness.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Arista Networks Platform as an eight out of ten.

Arista Networks Platform's technical support is very effective.

How was the initial setup?

The tool's setup is easy. We rely on two people for deployment.
