Zabbix hit and miss

What do you like best about the product?
The amount of features and the customization is a great incentive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Zabbix agents does not work in all applications like network Nas and conflict with other agents for backup solutions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For the cost savings it a great. Able to customize the dashboard help review systems in glance. I would still be using zabbix now but it conflicts with backup agents I had later installed. I had to switch to spiceworks platform for my network monitoring.

What do you like best about the product?
All primary operating systems supported
Supports snmp, wmi, and agent based monitors
Supports monitor elements set by custom scripts
Supports notification of alarms by custom scripts
Supports proxy servers that relay traffic to the primary server (works really well for multiple site support)
Has a marketplace for templates for specific devices
Has an API
Has a discovery protocol that runs on a periodic basis.
What do you dislike about the product?
The python modules for their API needs additional documentation.
The UI is a little dated.
Their variable arguments for their notification scripts needs a few more options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring essential applications, servers, services, appliances, etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Zabbix is a good option for server monitoring. If you run into problems contact the Zabbix IRC channel.

The holistic approach to monitoring not just the infrastructure but the applications too

A bit difficult to set up but it's a one time deal, so once you've over with it, it's done

What do you like best about the product?
This product runs without fail. I have used it with 5 proxies and never had a problem. One thing you need to count on is your monitoring system being stable. Others I have used aren't as reliable, then you are never sure if you are getting false alerts or have alerting coverage. This does all the standard monitoring and alerting very well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface isn't the greatest and they could do some web performance monitoring a little better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We monitor servers with the agent, SNMP devices, JMX endpoints and REST web APIs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Free and open source, so it works as well as you have time to put in to it, but it is very powerful. Support on the forums is pretty good, and templates have been created for a lot of servers/devices out there.

What do you like best about the product?
Close to nothing, the graphs not bad.
Rest of the component is very complicated.
What do you dislike about the product?
Implementation is complicated, you do not really know how Zabbix check the service, the monitoring infrastructure, the application monitor only on the high level.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring Azure environment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
implement the log monitoring and more option for application monitor.

Life Saving

What do you like best about the product?
Now i go to my second implementation, in first case the recon of all infrastructure and the availability to have the numbers in seconds to make the capacity planning an easy work. Additional to this, the developers group are very complacent with the fine tunning of web server Apache and GlassFish.
What do you dislike about the product?
The beginning is a hard path when you are a beginner, the "no agent" makes the work easier but you have to load credentials, then a i create limited user in all server just for zabbix.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The sysadmin, creator of word went to another country... and the 60 servers became orphaned. I´m new in the company, my first needed it was to know the environment, every detail. And how do that?... zabbix is the answer.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Zabbix is the app that "what you see, what you get" always can became more, the interface can be better, it can have more features, can do automatic stuff, but is a one of the 3 top of market in this apart. You don´t need a specialized person to deploy and admin (ROI), you can present to the board a real view of the thing, the IT and Network thing. You can better all you environment based on zabbix analysis, saved time for tunning the applications, services and hardware and save money with that (a delight to the managers) you can be better through enhance your server room (recognition)

What do you like best about the product?
One of the most flexible tools for monitoring - allows to do your own scripting so you can do custom monitoring which is tailored to your application and your needs. It also allows to perform actions automatically to solve problems - e.g., restart application, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
UI navigation is a bit of a mess; it would have been easier if some simple triggers were predefined
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Zabbix to monitor our Cloud infrastructure. With its implementation, we started reacting faster to problems with our applications.

What do you like best about the product?
Comparable to other easier to work with.
Once you learn it - very powerful and has a lot of customisations
Provide almost any kind of network monitoring you may ever think you need
What do you dislike about the product?
Complex UI, hard to understand what and how to do. Bad documentation. As a developer it was very disgusting experience. Possibly as an IT or network administrator the experience will be different
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Network monitoring - whether specific server or service is alive, how fats it responses. Network utilization
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be ready to work a lot with google :) most of information regarding "how to" we get from forums / stackoverflow and others. Templates were downloaded for different internet sources.
If you developer and may have an option to get support from Consultant or any network specialist - it will be the best practice and save a lot of time.

Great monitoring platform

What do you like best about the product?
We are a WISP and minitoring is very important part of our work. We are using Zabbix for more than 10 years and we are very happy. Zabbix allows you to modify triggers and create your own system what works for you. Their support team great as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
It’s not like I dislike but as it is for free you need to be aware that system will require some knowledge regards database optimisation. But that’s when you are monitoring quite a big network with a lot of items per second.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Zabbix is our core monitoring platform. Without Zabbix we couldn’t do any support in real time to our customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Zabbix is definitely a worth to try.
