Flexible Hybrid Headless CMS with a Client-Friendly Authoring Experience
Reviewed on Jun 24, 2026
Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Magnolia is the clean separation between content and presentation, and an author experience clients can actually use without hand-holding. Light development means fast iteration, and the hybrid headless model keeps me flexible.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I like less is the licensing cost — it’s a real conversation with mid-market clients, and the CE-to-DX gap can feel steep. The smaller community compared to bigger platforms means fewer ready answers when you hit something odd, and you lean more on the docs and your own experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Magnolia solves the content governance problem for enterprise clients — multiple authors, multiple languages, approval workflows, and brand consistency across large sites. For regulated DACH clients especially, that structure and auditability matters. It also solves the “marketing wants to move fast but IT owns the stack” tension: authors get a usable editor while developers keep control of the templating and architecture.

Its flexibility is what makes it such a powerful tool for adding new extensions.
What do you dislike about the product?
The upgrade path isn’t easy, starting with the fact that it doesn’t use semantic versioning.
