What do you dislike about the product?
Price is prohibitive, hard to justify when free tools exist that suit many smaller-scale projects just fine
Can be a little resource intensive to run
Can be a little resource intensive to run
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing simple 2 or 4 layer boards for prototyping sensors, power distribution etc. that are custom to the application.
powerful software but confusing at first
What do you like best about the product?
A lot of functionality, once you get the hang of how to use it it's clearly the best PCB design software
What do you dislike about the product?
High learning curve to get started using altium
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing PCBs
Altium 365 enhances an already great product
What do you like best about the product?
Altium 365 has been amazing for collaboratively working on projects with other engineers for schematic and printed circuit board design. It is a feature I found myself frequently using to share files and easily fit into my workflow as an experienced Altium Design user. As a user the integration was easy as an admin had already set it up and I was just using it as an extra tool or plugin almost to Altium.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the downsides is the requirement to use Altium Designer. This can make sense if a project or team has alaready stnadardized to Altium but can be a hassle for bringing others onboard, especially newer Altium users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the problem of collaborating on a complex project while maintaining version control. Myself and other engineers can easily edit schematics and layouts in the same project without a fear of overwriting or not checking out work properly.
Better than others
What do you like best about the product?
It is the industry standard so being proficient in it is going to help. There are so many features that free softwares don't have and I'm glad I have access to Altium Designer.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it was as good as LTspice for simulation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can easily view other designs of members on the Altium Workspace and collaborate. Additionally, design verification tools are extremely helpful.
Streamlined PCB Design with Powerful Tools and Intuitive Interface
What do you like best about the product?
Altium Designer's integrated environment is incredibly powerful, allowing for seamless transitions between schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation. The extensive component libraries and advanced routing tools save a lot of time, and the 3D visualization is excellent for checking design accuracy before manufacturing.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Altium Designer is feature-rich, the learning curve can be steep for new users, and some of the more advanced features require a significant time investment to master. Additionally, the software can be resource-intensive, which might cause slower performance on older machines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium Designer is solving the challenge of managing complex PCB designs by providing a unified platform that integrates all aspects of the design process, from schematic capture to layout and simulation. This integration reduces errors and design time, allowing me to complete tasks faster with greater confidence in their reliability. The ability to collaborate with fellow team members and track design changes also enhances productivity and ensures that the final product meets all specifications.
Good
What do you like best about the product?
The free student license is good for students to learn.
What do you dislike about the product?
Constraint manager is kinda finicky, not very clear on how it should be used.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Student engineering design teams, learning about circuit design and hardware design, getting me internships.
Altium used by RC Plane Avionics
What do you like best about the product?
One thing I like about Altium is how quick it is to create PCBs. The workflow makes sense, and all the integrated tools such as the impedence calculator, manufacturers part search, and the ease of symbol and footprint creation through their tools have been great so far for the boards that I have manufactured.
What do you dislike about the product?
The newly added constraint manager that is the default choice for design rules is somewhat annoying, and people should be given the choice to either use the design rules system that they implemented before, or to be allowed to switch between the two. It's hard to import design rules from before that I know work, and once you realise too late, it's a hassle to copy everything to the other project.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium is helping us to create the PCBS on the avionics system of our plane which includes connector, power distribution, and sensors.
Best in Class Product.
What do you like best about the product?
Altium has it all from simulation software to intricate Design rule checks. The complete customizability and advacned features that are offered make alitum the best CAD program for PCB design. Altium provides an easy to use interface. My favorite feature is the ability to add design constraints to my PCB layout to ensure I am within specification and never second guess my work. With proper setup, my layouts can be flawless. I use this software every day and still find new ways that altium helps elevate my designs. The cloud features are great and allow me to track any design updates as well as go back on revisions if i need to. The ease of implenting my designs and exporting them to manufucturers is great. I am able to integrate the manufacturer into altium which allows for easy access to my fab files.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the menus within altium can be hard to navigate. My least favorite feature is the project releaser feature. While it has great functionality, I find it confusing and convoluded. I also dislike the the fact that I cannot change the name of my releases. Once you make your intiil release you are stuck with that name.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Altium for all of my PCB designs. There is no reason to use anything else. Altium is in-depth and easy to use.
A centralized place to manage All your Projects.
What do you like best about the product?
Saving and managing Projects, in an easy, clean, and direct way.
Team Management, Tasks Management,
One click and your project is saved to the cloud.
I am a huge fan of Assembly Assitant,
Great Customer Support.

What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside of Altium365 is the Naming scheme for Parts and footprints, using a special naming instead of the Component MPN is a bit confusing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Integrating Both Mechanical and Electrical Sides in one Project is extremely helpful, it saved My team a huge amount of work and time.
Excellent Beginner Experience
What do you like best about the product?
It offers a wide range of tools for PCB design, simulation, and verification in a single platform. Also, it has an user-friendly interface with customizable workspaces that streamline the design process. Personally I like that it has an excellent integration with mechanical CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks, for ECAD-MCAD collaboration. Lastly, it is used in a wide variety of industries, which gives its users a high value in multiple industry domains.
What do you dislike about the product?
Being a specialized software, Altium Designer can be complex and feature-rich, which may overwhelm beginners. Additionally, more complex designs require significant system resources, potentially leading to performance issues on less powerful machines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium Designer's integration with Molded Interconnect Devices (MID) technology enables me to create 3D circuit carriers that combine mechanical and electronic functions in a single component. Although integrating mechanical design and PCB can sometimes be time-consuming, this feature helps reduce both the time and complexity of production.
MID integration also breaks the constraints of traditional 2D PCB design, allowing greater flexibility in component placement and routing, even though it is still a niche technology.
Regarding the PCB design process, the schematic capture with hierarchical design capabilities helps me organize and manage complex or modular designs much more effectively. Without these capabilities, such designs would otherwise be a headache to work with.
When working on complex projects, it can be easy to overlook design rules necessary for correct PCB manufacturing. The automation of this process with Design Rule Checking (DRC) ensures that the PCB complies with manufacturing standards, avoiding costly mistakes in the production stage.
