Good after you get use to it.

Spend a lot of time learning and have a lot reports you want to start with so you can train properly. Start slow.

What do you dislike about the product?
It's not a data wrangling or modeling software. Though, that's not really the purpose of the software.

Most business problems are related to how best communicate results. I find that Tableau offers a wide range of ways to do so.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's presentation software, not data wrangling or modeling software.

What do you dislike about the product?
The one thing I dislike is the security of your work on the public tableau, this can be improved upon. Otherwise, I have used this extensively and have enjoyed working on it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used tableau for possibly all my exploratory analysis before starting to actually work on the data. finding correlations, outliers, density, tableau provides everything, combining features, binning, you can customize variables according to your need.
Then, Tableau is also the best tools out there to visualize your analysis, making data speak through visualizations, dashboards is a great way to present your findings and results.

Tableau desktop
What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy the accessibility to the data using this platform. The simple layout makes it easy to use and consume the data.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would say there could be more functionality in the program. It's almost too simple. Also, it tends to be slow with large datasets as well as exporting into excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helps to automate certain reports and processes. Having everything in an easy to consume form makes these processes more efficient.

What do you like best about the product?
I love the way that you can add the data and it basically can walk you through how to use the product.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does not give you the best visuals. Some of the visuals are to in depth and need high resolution products to display properly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Providing the compliancy department all the necessary days for review of the faculty and staff.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is easy to use and I feel like under the right circumstances can be very valuable.
data visualization and workbook creation
What do you like best about the product?
Unlike Data Joining, Data Blending in tableau allows combining of data from different sources and platforms. For instance, you can blend data present in an Excel file with that of an Oracle DB to create a new dataset.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tableau takes time to place a filter in context. When a filter is set as context one, the software creates a temporary table for that particular context filter.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used to utilize excel and our systems require the use of this application instead.
Positive Tableau Experience
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Tableau is highly customizable and intuitive for new users, even easier to pick up for a user who has already worked with other data analytics and visualization programs. The program makes it easy to put data into simple, visual forms for other users to digest and act on.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing I dislike is that if there is functionality missing in the program, it may take a long time for the Tableau team to implement changes or customization depending on what users need. Users can request new functions, but with many services and programs there is a long timeline for approval, testing, and implementation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau allows users to easily pull together multiple sources of data (or link data directly) to create visualizations for other company users. Different groups can then identify where there are key issues or areas of improvement, put together a plan for action, and aim to resolve these issues.
Gets the Job Done, but Be Prepared for Setup Time
What do you like best about the product?
It does a great job of mixing data sources through it's proprietary blending and joining tools. For example, You can have a live SQL connection with a pre-saved query that joins to an Excel spreadsheet on your desk that acts as a crosswalk for a set of fields if need be.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's truly a "blank slate" and it takes time and effort to get your dashboards off the ground before you can publish them for your end users. The gains are there, as these "sandboxes" are self-serve and self-updating for your users, but the human capital it requires to get off the ground can be daunting.
Also, I wish that Tableau had a built-in Geocaching tool, as it';s ability to do long-Lad work is dependent on your ability to feed those tools into the system. Direct integration with Google Maps API is a non-starter since we deal with API, so it'd be nice if there was an add-in directly within Tableau.

I've built entire "cubes" in Tableau which are able to churn through lots of data to do specific tasks (One particular cube would churn through 1,000,000+ lines of patient data to calculate weighted averages) and some basic graphs that auto-refresh for certain users. We're currently integrating Tableau at our current organization and using mapping and SQL to do analysis regarding the distance our patients travel to Pomona Valley Hospital within our service area.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you have the Human Capital needed for setup and buy-in from Leadership, as this is an "all-in" solution that will require work before producing fruit.
