Centralized dashboard has simplified cloud backups and now streamlines multi-cloud data migrations

  • April 16, 2026
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for NetApp BlueXP is cloud storage management, backup, and disaster recovery, and it is very easy to manage the persistent storage that runs on Kubernetes or OpenShift. Data migration is also a typical use case for our organization.

In some of our Amazon Kubernetes clusters, NetApp BlueXP helps us take backups, including application backup and application manifest backup. If anything fails, we can automatically restore since we have already scheduled the cron job using it, storing the backup for recovery. Additionally, it is very helpful for data migrations, allowing us to move data from cloud to cloud or from bare metal to cloud easily.

What is most valuable?

The best features NetApp BlueXP offers, in my experience, include a single dashboard for every operation, which helps reduce manual work. It has a great dashboard with better visibility and works across multiple clouds, whether in a hybrid or multiple cloud environments.

The dashboard helps my team day-to-day by providing a very easy-to-use UI that is not too complex. We can easily add cloud details, create buckets, and manage all the information for backup. The operations are GUI-based, making it very helpful for configuring these tasks without using complex CLI commands.

NetApp BlueXP positively impacts my organization by providing good integration with NetApp storage including ONTAP and Trident, along with built-in monitoring and alerts. It saves a lot of time and reduces the in-field engineers' costs.

What needs improvement?

I chose eight out of ten because the UI is slow sometimes, and the initial configuration is a bit complex. The license cost is also high compared to other products.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using NetApp BlueXP for the last two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

NetApp BlueXP is very stable in my experience with no issues related to downtime or reliability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

NetApp BlueXP's scalability meets our needs well since it is a SaaS-based product managed by the backend OEM teams. There is no downtime or maintenance downtime, making it very helpful during scaling and allowing easy data movement to the cloud. I have not faced any challenges with scalability.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support for NetApp BlueXP is very good. We get timely access whenever we need support related to the product, which is enterprise-level support. However, I have not received a support plan that increases case priority according to our use cases.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have been using NetApp BlueXP from the start and did not evaluate other options since we adopted NetApp BlueXP from the beginning.

How was the initial setup?

The setup and initial configuration of NetApp BlueXP are a bit complex.

What was our ROI?

Since using NetApp BlueXP, we have seen a return on investment by saving time as we manage multiple tools more efficiently. It directly saves money, enhances backup security with built-in security and compliance, and makes scaling easy, allowing us to move data to clouds effortlessly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Related to pricing, this is managed by the financial team, but I understand it is a bit high. Compared to competitors including Dell PowerStore, Dell APEX, and IBM Spectrum, these are slightly less expensive than NetApp BlueXP.

What other advice do I have?

If your use case involves backing up data from the cloud or transitioning data from on-prem to cloud or between multiple or hybrid clouds, NetApp BlueXP is a very good tool. With a minimal single dashboard, you can manage every aspect, and you get excellent customer support whenever required, facilitating integration with multiple storage backends including any cloud storage or on-prem storage such as NetApp or Dell.

Centralized cloud volumes have simplified administration and improved compliance visibility

  • April 16, 2026
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My central use case is for CVO, for cloud volume on top, and for administration with Google.

What is most valuable?

NetApp BlueXP is a good solution because we did not have another solution for CVO administration. I like NetApp BlueXP; it is good. I am using the unified visibility feature. NetApp BlueXP helps with managing compliance and security policies. For all of NetApp BlueXP, I think nine in general. I like that I worked with NetApp interface before, and NetApp BlueXP is almost the same. It is really good.

What needs improvement?

It is not easy to integrate with Google because if we have some problems, we must talk with Google and NetApp support. However, they do not speak with each other, so I must explain the same problem to Google and then explain the same problem to NetApp support.

The only challenge I faced when deploying it was deploying agents in NetApp BlueXP. The problem was that we had no documentation about deployment.

They could improve their response time, as it is too long. It could also be expensive to scale to a large scale.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Regarding stability, I would say approximately 90 percent. I did not see any problem so far, but I cannot predict the future.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate scalability nine from one to ten points.

How are customer service and support?

I have worked with technical support from NetApp. My experience with support is good. I would give them seven points for support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I worked with something else previously.

How was the initial setup?

I find the installation easy.

What was our ROI?

When we compare it to classic infrastructure, we see money saving. We see savings with the product compared to classic infrastructure. I think the savings are from twenty to thirty percent.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I find the price affordable.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have not implemented advanced data backup strategies; this is not for backup. I do not use AI here; we do not use AI analytics. The reason I am not using it is that we do not need it. We do not use automated data tiering from the S.

What other advice do I have?

For the data integration part, we are working with Google. The only downside regarding integration with Google is that it is quite complex when I have to explain the same issue twice.

I would rate NetApp BlueXP's help with managing compliance and security policies at eight for the visibility feature only. I rate it eight because if you do not use this instrument for administration early, it is difficult.

It was not my choice; I simply started working with the product they already had.

I rate this review nine overall.

Good support, nice interface, and natively integrates with NetApp

  • July 25, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The solution mirrors the data from on-prem to the cloud. BlueXP is software that sits on the cloud, and it's able to look into the data and extract it. We use it for data extraction.

What is most valuable?

The solution is from NetApp. It's treated like an individual solution. However, it's a full product. It's a backup and recovery tool.

The software interface can extract the data from the backend effectively.

It's a good solution as it natively integrates with other NetApp tools, and they can all work together as one product.

It's useful that it is a single solution.

What needs improvement?

It's a very expensive product. However, there are no other options if you go ahead with the NetApp product. You can't use other solutions to do this type of activity under NetApp. NetApp does not make it easy for you to integrate with other outside solutions.

The speed of the solution could be better. Sometimes it is pretty slow, depending on the environment.

In the first few versions, we were not able to browse and look into other storage types that replicated from on-premises. However, they've since updated the software.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have only used the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is rock-solid. I've never had any serious problems. I'd rate the stability ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We're a pretty big company. This solution covers tens of thousands of users.

The solution is very scalable. You can upload hyperscalers in the cloud. Id's rate the scalability ten out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It took a few hours to set up.

For maintenance, we have a third-party vendor that's helping us with support and lifecycle management of IT assets. There's a team of six people managing the maintenance. They are architects.

What about the implementation team?

We had a third party assist us with the deployment of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive. However, it is in line with what other operators are offering. We do have a separate team that manages licensing. I'd rate the affordability of pricing at five or six out of ten.

There are no extra expenses over and above the core licensing cost.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look into Azure File Services and Commvault. We also considered VMware. This solution was the only one that had full integration with NetApp and Azure.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. It's good.

I'd recommend the solution to others.

It simplifies management and helps us deal with our customers' classification issues

  • November 02, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use BlueXP to manage the data in our two data centers and on the cloud.

How has it helped my organization?

The primary benefit is that it simplifies data management. We face a lot of classification issues with our customers. They need to classify data, but they don't know how to do it. We can help them do it using BlueXP Datasense.

What is most valuable?

The data migration tools are excellent. Once you have clusters in Blue XP, everything is easy. It's perfect for the guys in our office who don't understand storage as much because they don't need to go into system manager. They can use BlueXP to drag and drop things instead of configuring things the old way. It's a great graphical difference. BlueXP offers a unified control panel that does just about everything we need right now. Everything is integrated so well.

What needs improvement?

The VMware capabilities can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used BlueXP since it came out a year ago, but we previously used it when it was called Cloud Manager.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is acceptable. I've never had an issue with it. The performance depends on where you install it. We primarily install it locally. Most people use on-prem NetApp, so the performance comes down to their box.

How are customer service and support?

We provide level one and two support for NetApp to our clients in New Zealand. We only deal with the vendor when it gets to level three.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Cloud Insights when it was a standalone tool before it was integrated into BlueXP. The integration with BlueXP makes it even better.

How was the initial setup?

In the cloud, I can just provision it, so it's simple. On-site, I can spin up a Linux VM and install Linux in half an hour.

What was our ROI?

We see a return from having the ability to do things very quickly. We can work faster by dragging and dropping things around instead of using the command line or the standard system manager GUI. We had a customer who didn't know that it could migrate from the ONTAP solution we had in New Zealand to San Francisco. He's now doing that.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

BlueXP itself is free. For other things, it comes down to how much you're willing to spend on things like Cloud DataSense. If somebody sees the value in it, they'll buy it. We struggle in New Zealand trying to sell these features to people.

What other advice do I have?

I rate BlueXP 10 out of 10.

Offers a unified control pane for a swift overview and provides simple and user-friendly visibility into storage

  • November 02, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We use it for all the different environments we have, such as on-premises, Azure, and AWS clouds.

One of the main challenges we faced was the need for a single point of entry for all our system managers and NetApp BlueXP solution helped us overcome this challenge.

It provides us with a quick and simple overview of all our systems. BlueXP provides us with a unified control pane.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the ability to view all our different systems in one place. That's the most important feature for us.

The visibility into the storage is simple and easy to use. You can navigate to SCM or Volumes with just a few clicks.

What needs improvement?

Integration with other NetApp tools like Cloud Insights and SnapCenter would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Performance could be a little better. In my opinion, it's a bit slow. If you click on something, it takes a while for the data to load. I can't understand why because it's just pulling data from all the different clouds, but that could be improved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is okay.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are good because if I pick up the phone and call a guy, I get an answer.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment was very simple.

It involved discovering the systems and entering an IP address, user ID, and password, and the systems were integrated into the NetApp BlueXP environment.

What about the implementation team?

We worked directly with NetApp's team.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

NetApp BlueXP was our first choice.

Our goal is to minimize the number of tools we use. We prefer to stick with NetApp products whenever possible to avoid introducing third-party tools.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.
