What do you like best about the product?
Simple APIs, good dashboards, the Slack and PagerDuty integrations work well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Complex charts or certain types of data points can get rendered weird when you have a limited amount or infrequent data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using it to monitor and alert on system, network, application, and business level metrics.

Great product! Works well for most system and application monitoring

What do you like best about the product?
Server and application monitor is a very flexible product. You can use almost any sort of scripting to gather data. It has agent or agentless communication (Linux agents are in beta) and works well with other Solarwinds products as well as external products like PagerDuty. Has a large base of partners that make integrations that work with Solarwinds products.
What do you dislike about the product?
Automation is a non-supported feature so you are on your own to figure out how to automate things though there is an active user community that is helpful for this. There is no way to install the product via scripted install so deployment within a DevOps environment is a challenge. New product release schedules are sort of random so they may show a new feature they are developing in a beta a long time before it is ready to release.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Server and application monitor allows us to work from the hardware layer though the OS and into the application layer. This has given us the ability to pinpoint issues within those areas before they become problems. When problems do occur, it is instrumental in the root cause evaluation as it provides the ability to see the timeline of events leading up to a failure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
On a budget, Nagios is still the standard but has a higher learning curve and support can be purchased separately. Zenos was a contender as well.

Hosted monitoring tool for current environment

  • May 11, 2016

What do you like best about the product?
I like that solar winds is able to monitor disk, cpu, up/down times, and is able to notify us of any issues that we are seeing in our environment. This allows us to get a jump start on these activities and to not take any unnecessary downtime
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that we have to restart the solar winds agent somewhat frequently as it appears to go down and then come back up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are helping our customers maintain an SLA uptime that they have agreed upon with us by using solar winds to monitor our environment.

Extremely Useful Monitoring

  • May 04, 2016

What do you like best about the product?
We take full advantage of this software. It enables us to monitor key Windows Services, as well as performance metrics of our environments.
What do you dislike about the product?
Intuitive. There are a great deal of options to familiarize yourself with. Not so much of a con, just a ton of great options available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By Monitoring, and automatically starting failed windows services, we reduce the impact to environments, and notify parties involved.

NPM can see everything!

  • January 08, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solarwinds NPM, not sure where to start! There's so many components to Solarwinds! NPM is amazing. You can set up a dash with a gauge and overview. Pinpoint the issues right from one page.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's so many components it really can be overwhelming. The licensing can be very expensive that is for sure.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to identify hardware performance issues and latent connections, right from one page!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You need a dedicated team to roll this out. You need complete buy in from all interested partners and a roadmap as to where and what you want to monitor.
