First Steps in CFD with SimScale: A New User’s Perspective
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about SimScale is the customer support, that’s always readily available to help with projects. It really makes a difference, especially when you're just starting out. The platform is also easy to use and runs entirely in the cloud, so it doesn’t slow down my computer at all—that’s a huge plus!
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform is powerful, but for beginners, setting up simulations correctly can be a bit overwhelming without deeper guidance, even with tutorials available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SimScale is a valuable tool for supporting our clients with simulations related to temperature homogeneity, velocity fields, confort. By using SimScale, we are able to conduct detailed simulations that assess and optimize temperature distribution within various systems or environments. This is crucial for our clients who need to ensure consistent temperature performance, whether it’s in manufacturing processes, product designs, or facility management.
Easy to use and a great support team that's available quickly
What do you like best about the product?
I like that it is cloud based so that I can log in from wherever. It's very easy to use once you understand how to run simulations and the support team does a great job at helping you out with detailed videos and walkthroughs of setting up a simulation as well as troubleshooting where needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you have multiple simscale windows open, it faces some issues loading the projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's helping us run CFD simulations for our products. Saving a lot of time by prioritizing simulations over prototyping.
Electromagnetic Simulation for surgical implants
What do you like best about the product?
I like that it is simple, and I could run 10 free simulations. Being able to take a SolidWorks assembly and just stick it right into the workbench was super helpful. The tutorials were straightforward and taught me everything I needed to get the job done.
What do you dislike about the product?
The flow region was a little bit annoying since after it was added I would have to hide it. Then when closing and opening the projects again, it would become visible again and the project just looks like a cube when the flow region is visible.
Also, I got a lot of emails from SimScale and I usually just ignore them. I do like that when I first signed up, a real person reached out to me. That kind of surprised me, usually it's just a machine when I sign up for stuff

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I needed to do some quick analyses on magnets to test the viability of a surgical implant. I used the electromagnetics simulations to test the forces of various configurations of magnets. I didn't need to do any heavy simulations; I just needed a general idea of how magnets interact and how I could optimize the forces. SimScale was nice because I didn't want to have to download any new software and allowed me to get quick answers to my own questions and my clients' questions.
Excellent toolchain and support
What do you like best about the product?
Easy and intuitive interfaces for CFD and thermal transport problems. Fast-running simulations and has great flexibility in meshing. Awesome side-by-side comparison view system for comparing two different sets of parameters in the same visualization, color map scaling, etc. But what I've loved most is the extremely quick and helpful support from experts who know a ton about advanced simulation.
On multiple occasions and within 5 minutes of messaging them via the platform, the support guys have literally jumped into an ongoing zoom meeting with me and my colleagues, and helped us setup boundary conditions correctly outside of their working hours. I've never had a better experience with software than I've had at SimScale. Couldn't recommend more! Thank you!

What do you dislike about the product?
The way the mouse moves the camera in the 3D viewer rotates all axis simultaneously and is difficult to get the angle of a view correct with mouse motion alone. But they will probably fix this eventually, as the UI seems to be improving regularly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are analyzing the limits of conduction in chip scale convective and liquid cooling systems.
SimScale answered almost all of our needs in the most efficient way
What do you like best about the product?
Friendly user interface, no need for computer infrastructure (no need to implement or integrate anything!), and responsive support team
What do you dislike about the product?
At times the analysis takes long to load
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CFD's integrated with a chemical process
Great technical support
What do you like best about the product?
Simscal has great technical support. I have a dedicated agent that is fantastic to work with. Luis is always willing to help me through some difficult simulations or situations where I need a little extra help. Also, since Simscale is cloud based, I can access it anywhere. There's been many times where I'm at a client facility and need to run a quick simulation. No need to drive 2 hours back to my office. If there's internet there's the ability so run FEAs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes my work takes to to remote areas where internet is not available. In these cases I do need to be in my office to run some simulations. These times are far and few betweeen.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I solve difficult problems for my clients every day. Simscale is a key part of my work process.
Streamlined workflows but lacking more advanced features
What do you like best about the product?
The entire SimScale workflow is very fast for basic simulations. Personally, I have run over 50 simulations (thermal, CFD, and dynamic structural) in the past couple of months since my company started using this package.
It integrates with OnShape, so importing geometries is very quick if that happens to be your CAD package. Setting up boundary conditions is similarly efficient. Meshing and simulation runs are performed on the cloud and can be run in parallel, making the process even faster. I think SimScale is a great package for quickly gaining an approximate understanding of how a design might perform. I've used the customer support live chat a couple of times and found it helpful—response times have always been within an hour, and the support team has understood and answered my questions well.

What do you dislike about the product?
As a relatively new simulation package, it is still missing some more advanced functionality. One downside of being such a streamlined package is that it limits control over certain setup options.
The biggest missing feature that would benefit my workflow is parametric sweeps. If a range of geometries could be imported from different OnShape configurations and then simulated in parallel with the same boundary conditions, it would be a huge improvement for my typical use cases.
Additionally, customising the meshing configuration and extracting data during post-processing could be improved. Greater flexibility in these areas would make SimScale an even more powerful tool.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
So far, I've been using SimScale to optimise the themal design of cells and battery modules with thermal conduction simulations and the flow balance of parallel channel coldplates using CFD.
SimScale
What do you like best about the product?
Online support is really helpful. The support team can usually answer your questions or troubleshoot in a short time.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be great if SimScale could provide more options for color scale for the resulting rendering.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SimScale provides easy steps for CFD simulation and help to understand wind comfort.
Effortless CFD, simulations made easy
What do you like best about the product?
SimScale is cloud-based and runs through the browser. It has an intuitive UI, a straightforward simulation setup, and built-in checks to ensure input matches output. They provide an extensive library of recorded webinars, tutorials, sample projects, and rich documentation to get you started. There are also many community projects to explore.
The platform offers great support, including the option for video sessions. It is easy to use and implement, as it does not require any hardware. Multiple simulations can be run simultaneously. Having SimScale allows us to rapidly validate cases and assumptions, providing insights that we previously could not obtain.
