Powerful IT Cost Visibility, Complex Setup

    Reviewed on Jun 30, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I like the IT cost transparency, since it tracks and displays where IT money is being spent. The cloud cost management is useful because it monitors and optimizes cloud spending across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. I value the budgeting and forecasting, which helps create a budget and track specific user expenses. The cost allocation aggregates shared IT costs to departments, projects, and business units, along with chargebacks and showbacks. As for capabilities, it analyzes and categorizes IT and cloud cost, tracks spending across applications, vendors, and services, optimizes cloud resource utilization to reduce waste, and forecasts future IT and cloud expenditure. It also integrates data from multiple enterprise systems into a single platform. The outcomes I appreciate are reduced IT and cloud cost through better visibility and optimization, improved financial transparency across the organization, more accurate budgeting and forecasting for technology investment, and faster, automated reporting that reduces manual effort. It also enhances collaboration between finance, IT, and business leaders. It complements systems like SAP, ServiceNow, AWS, and Azure, bringing financial and operational data together. It automates cost allocation, reporting, and analytics, making the process more accurate and scalable. Overall, I'd give it nine out of 10 because it's a powerful enterprise platform for IT financial management and cloud cost optimization.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface can feel very complex, especially for new users, and a more modern UI would help reduce the learning curve. The initial setup and configuration can take weeks or months, so I'd like simpler deployment templates and guided setup to speed up implementation. I think customization could be easier, and the AI and predictive analytics could be enhanced, along with better real-time analytics. I'd also like to see improved third-party integration and better support for small and midsize businesses. The setup itself is moderately to highly complex, especially for large organizations, since it requires data integration, cost model configuration, and business rules setup.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use IBM Apptio to monitor IT spending, analyze cloud cost, prepare budgets, and generate financial reports. It solves lack of visibility into IT spending, uncontrolled cloud cost, and inaccurate budgeting. It automates cost allocation and reporting, helping us optimize technology spending.

Cloud cost visibility has improved and daily decisions reduce unnecessary resource spending

    Reviewed on Jun 29, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I mainly use Apptio Costing for app management with cloud computing, whereby it helps me integrate Apptio Costing into the cloud so I can see proper visibility into my cloud costs anytime from Apptio Costing dashboard.

A quick specific example of how I use Apptio Costing for cloud visibility in my daily work is the integration of Apptio Costing into AWS that gives me proper visibility of how my usage on the cloud is with Apptio Costing and AWS, which does not require me to log into AWS. I can just get those reports from Apptio Costing. That saves me a lot of time to understand exactly what features I get billed for and how to prevent higher costs on the cloud.

    What is most valuable?

My best feature of Apptio Costing is straightforward integration with AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. That makes it so easy to connect Apptio Costing with those cloud tools so I can see proper cost management from Apptio Costing.

The setup for these integrations with AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure is straightforward. I just need to log in from Apptio Costing, then connect to any cloud tool. The setup was straightforward.

Apptio Costing has positively impacted my team and organization by reducing a lot of time. For example, I am able to have clear visibility into the cloud costs from Apptio Costing. It does not require me to switch multiple tabs to see exactly what is happening, and I am able to detect which features I am using on the cloud and which I am not using. For example, with AWS Amazon Web Services, there are other features such as Lambda and EC2 that we were having multiple instances of and were not using. Apptio Costing was able to tell us exactly that we do not need those features and the budget was reduced.

    What needs improvement?

I think Apptio Costing needs to improve in the API integration. The API sometimes requires a lot of technical requirements for integration if you are not a developer. You need to have a software engineer. I think they need to make it so easy for anyone regardless of technical background to integrate Apptio Costing into any cloud tool.

Lastly, I would love to see them improve the visual analytics dashboards. They do take a lot of time to refresh data, so you can be delayed in seeing data in real-time.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Apptio Costing is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Apptio Costing is good. I have not seen it in any downtime, regardless of how many users we have.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support for Apptio Costing is very responsive to technical questions. They can respond on live chat and in tickets. I would give them ten out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not evaluate other options before choosing Apptio Costing.

    How was the initial setup?

The setup for these integrations with AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure is straightforward. I just need to log in from Apptio Costing, then connect to any cloud tool. The setup was straightforward.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a reduction in time by fifteen percent, and I have also seen cost savings of thirty percent since using Apptio Costing.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing was straightforward, and I found the pricing to be more affordable, especially depending on the features that Apptio Costing provides.

What other advice do I have?

The accuracy and reliability of output from Apptio Costing can be relied on because the outputs are very easy to understand and they have natural language.

Apptio Costing is easy to manage, especially if you want to manage different cloud platforms, for example, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. It is easy to integrate Apptio Costing and have proper visibility into cost management. I would recommend it. I gave this product a perfect rating of ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Centralized IT Cost Visibility with Powerful Dashboards and Reporting

    Reviewed on Jun 27, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about IBM Apptio is that it centralizes all our IT cost and financial data in one place, which makes it much easier to see exactly where the budget is going. Instead of juggling multiple spreadsheets, we can generate detailed reports and dashboards that support budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation.

Once you get familiar with the platform, it’s easy to navigate, and the visual reporting makes it straightforward to explain IT spending to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. I also value the flexibility to customize dashboards to fit different business needs and audiences.

Another major advantage is its integration with cloud platforms and other enterprise tools. This reduces manual data collection, improves accuracy, and keeps information more consistent. Performance has been reliable even when working with large datasets, and the reporting capabilities have helped us make stronger cost-optimization decisions.

Onboarding can take some time because of the platform’s depth, but IBM’s documentation and support have been helpful whenever we’ve needed assistance. I also appreciate the intelligent recommendations and automated insights that surface spending trends and anomalies, making it easier to spot opportunities for cost savings before they turn into bigger issues.

Even though it’s a premium product, the visibility and control it provides over IT spending make it a worthwhile investment for organizations that need detailed financial management and governance.
What do you dislike about the product?
One area where IBM Apptio could improve is the learning curve for new users. Since it offers a wide range of features, it can take some time to become comfortable with the platform, especially if you're not familiar with IT financial management.

Some reports and dashboards require a fair amount of customization to match specific business requirements, and setting them up initially can be time-consuming. At times, pages with large datasets can feel a bit slower to load, although it hasn't significantly affected day-to-day work.

I'd also like to see a more modern and intuitive user interface in certain sections, as some workflows require more clicks than necessary. While the platform delivers strong value, the pricing may be on the higher side for smaller organizations. Overall, these are relatively minor drawbacks, and they don't outweigh the benefits we've experienced.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM Apptio has helped us gain much better visibility into our IT spending and resource allocation. Before using it, tracking costs across different teams, projects, and cloud services involved a lot of manual effort and spreadsheets. Now, we have a centralized view of our IT financial data, which makes budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis much more straightforward.

One of the biggest benefits has been the ability to identify areas where we can optimize costs without affecting business operations. The reporting and dashboards also make it easier to share financial insights with leadership, which has improved decision-making and increased transparency across teams.

Overall, it has reduced the time spent on manual reporting, improved the accuracy of financial data, and given us greater confidence when planning IT budgets and evaluating technology investments.

What do you like best about the product?
One of the biggest advantages for me is its ability to reduce costs. It helps identify unnecessary or duplicate technology expenses, underutilized resources, idle cloud services, and inefficient spending patterns. With actionable insights, my organization can optimize infrastructure usage, improve budget planning, eliminate waste, and negotiate better vendor contracts, which leads to significant cost savings.

It also helps me address common business challenges by increasing financial transparency, improving cost accountability, simplifying budgeting and forecasting, and enabling faster decision-making. It reduces manual reporting effort, minimizes human error, and provides real-time dashboards that allow teams to spot issues quickly before they turn into major problems.

I also like the visibility it provides into IT spending, resources, and business value, along with a clear picture of how resources are being utilized or underutilized across cloud platforms like Azure and Google Cloud. It integrates with several enterprise tools, including ERP and financial systems for budgeting and accounting; cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud for tracking cloud spend; IT service management tools like ServiceNow; and business intelligence tools such as Power BI and Tableau for advanced reporting and dashboards.

The initial setup was relatively straightforward, and the IBM documentation and implementation support made the process manageable. Once the platform was configured, it became very useful for day-to-day operations, so I’d rate the setup eight out of ten. Overall, I think it’s a great product and would definitely recommend it ten out of ten.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think the user interface could be simpler, because the navigation isn’t very intuitive, especially for new users. I’d also like to see stronger dashboard customization, along with more flexible reporting and visualization options. System performance could be improved as well, particularly when processing very large datasets and running complex reports. I’d like the product team to make more use of AI and predictive analytics to provide smarter cost-optimization recommendations. Finally, the learning curve could be reduced by offering more interactive tutorials, guided workflows, and clearer in-product assistance.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM Apptio gives me clear visibility into IT spending, resource usage, and the business value behind it. It increases financial transparency, strengthens cost accountability, and makes budgeting and forecasting simpler, which helps me make decisions faster. It also reduces manual reporting and the errors that come with it, helps identify duplicate or underutilized expenses, and supports cost-cutting efforts.

IBM Apptio: A Single Source of Truth for Enterprise Technology Spend

    Reviewed on Jun 24, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
IBM Apptio is a strong fit for large-scale enterprises dealing with complex technology spend, because it can serve as a single source of truth and genuinely bridge the gap between IT and finance. I especially like how it helps eliminate “spreadsheet hell” by automating cost tracking across multi-cloud and hybrid infrastructure, and by mapping raw bills directly to real business services so leadership can clearly see what the tech stack is actually delivering.
What do you dislike about the product?
It comes with a notoriously steep learning curve and a significant onboarding lift. If your organization’s internal data and cloud tagging are messy, getting Apptio set up can feel like a frustrating, manual uphill battle, with ongoing data cleansing needed to produce accurate results. In the end, it’s highly praised by mature, enterprise-level FinOps teams, but it can be overkill or simply too rigid for smaller companies with simpler infrastructure.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM Apptio stops us from overspending on technology by pulling all our messy IT and cloud bills into one simple dashboard. It replaces confusing Excel spreadsheets and connects the dots between what the tech team buys and what the finance team tracks. By showing exactly how much each app or software costs to run, it helps us find wasted spending, hold departments accountable, and save hundreds of hours of manual paperwork.

Cloud spending has dropped while one dashboard now shows clear usage insights

    Reviewed on Jun 16, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I use Apptio Costing in two different ways: one, to optimize the costs of cloud tools like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud; and then alongside, I also use the solution to understand what is really happening, for example, to get alerts from those cloud tools right from Apptio Costing.

I integrate with AWS and then I integrate with Google Cloud; Apptio Costing is going to read how we use the cloud and then it is going to let us know exactly the features we do not need anymore and then the features we need more. The features we do not need anymore, we refuse to use them and that saves us more costs.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Apptio Costing offers for me include what we call the user interface, which is really professional, helping our team to get a lot of things from one dashboard, for example, the total spend, and then the visual charts that show how analytics goes, and secondly, I also love the support team; they are really very supportive, responding to technical questions on time and they are available 24/7.

I find the cards more interesting in the user interface; for example, you can see exactly the total amount you always spend, where you always spend more, for example, the Opex, the Capex, so you get more insight to know exactly where you spend more in a visual.

Apptio Costing has impacted us positively by reducing the costs; we have reduced the cost by 31% because we no longer use every feature we find; we only use the features that are more important to our business.

It is over a specific period that I measured that 31% reduction; before using this solution, Apptio Costing, we were using more costs on clouds but using Apptio Costing has helped us to exactly extract what features we need to use and how to, and really that has saved us more costs because we no longer pay for what we do not use.

    What needs improvement?

I think Apptio Costing can be improved in a few areas; the first one is the analysis because it takes a lot of time to automate and ingest what we call the financial and operational projections, and sometimes the given value is invalid, so that one needs more improvement so that the projection analysis is always accurate and that is going to save more people a lot of time and being aware of what the cost is going to be; another thing would be support language, for example, they only offer support in the English language, which sometimes can be hard for non-English speakers.

I think the second would be integration; currently, Apptio Costing supports a few tools like Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, yet there are other more tools like Digital Ocean, so they can consider adding more cloud tools like Digital Ocean in the platform or Akamai in the platform so that they can be able to use it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Apptio Costing for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Apptio Costing is very stable, with no downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Apptio Costing is scalable; it grows with you when your product grows and they do not hike prices.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support for Apptio Costing is very awesome and very responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This is our first solution to use because Apptio Costing met what we were looking for; we did not change or look for any other solution to use.

    How was the initial setup?

Pricing is okay; the lady that onboarded us was really more helpful in telling us what features we were looking for, so the cost is okay, the pricing is okay, the setup is okay, and the licensing is okay, very affordable, with no long-term commitments.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a 32% ROI as what we have seen as an increase.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other options before choosing Apptio Costing.

What other advice do I have?

For anyone looking for cloud management, to know exactly what features they need to use and how long it is going to cost them, Apptio Costing is really the right tool, and if you are going into a longer term, they can even offer a discount, so that would be my advice and recommendation. I gave this review a rating of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Cloud cost visibility has transformed financial planning and continues to drive 25% savings

    Reviewed on Jun 04, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I use Apptio Costing to maximize IT efficiency by reducing higher costs that we were previously using, and I also use it to simplify and analyze our automation of financial operations and data.

We use Apptio Costing to analyze how we spend on cloud services, for example, Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services, and it provides us a report on how we can reduce our spending, making it easier to align our financial needs towards those tools.

    What is most valuable?

I appreciate the easy-to-use costing framework of Apptio Costing where you can easily understand the costs that you incur on cloud tools, and it provides a very good report on how you can optimize it, so the reports generated by the tool are very user-friendly.

What makes the reports of Apptio Costing more friendly is that they provide integration with AWS and GCP, and then it provides a report on how our bills are, what features we do not use that keep making our costs too high, and those reports can be shared with the team to ensure that we can optimize and plan efficiently towards our IT financial strategies.

Apptio Costing has helped us to save costs because we know exactly what takes more and what we don't use, so we end up saving a lot of money.

    What needs improvement?

I think the user interface of Apptio Costing needs to be improved because when you are accessing the tool on a very small screen, you find that the user interface is very nested, so you cannot easily find the feature you want to use because they are nested together.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Apptio Costing for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Apptio Costing is stable; we have not seen any downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Apptio Costing is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support for Apptio Costing is great; they are very responsive, respond to questions on time, and provide solutions.

    How was the initial setup?

Pricing for Apptio Costing is fair; they even give a free trial to test the tool if it meets your needs, so I would say pricing is fair, and the onboarding process was smooth, with the customer team making sure you understand exactly what you are purchasing before you can go into acquisition.

    What was our ROI?

We have seen cost reduction by 25% since using Apptio Costing, so we no longer spend more money on the features and the cloud instances that we do not use.

Because we have detailed visibility and can monitor and report matters faster, we have seen a return on investment by 30%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We purchased Apptio Costing directly from them.

What other advice do I have?

Apptio Costing is secure, and we have not seen any issues, so the generated content of the AI is really very secure, it is very accurate, and aligns with our goals.

Apptio Costing is very accurate and reliable; we always get timely responses and timely recommendations that are of a high standard.

I would say Apptio Costing is good, especially for teams that are handling complex cloud environments because it helps me to see exactly which resource and which part of the cloud is using or eating up my budget and how to optimize, so I would recommend it. I give this review a rating of 5 out of 5.
