What do you dislike about the product?
I wished it would be cheaper than Solidworks - but eventualy - its going to be same price annualy
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
very easy CAD for any business size
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend
its an amasing CAD solution

Excellent for 3D modeling but the 2D drawing module is missing functionality.
What do you like best about the product?
The part studio and top down modeling. The build in PDM/PLM and the opportunity and to do branching.
The mates in assembly is great. In context editing is Excellent. The opportunity to share documents with customers. It is easy to navigate between parts/assemblies and drawings. The simultaneous sheet metal design.

What do you dislike about the product?
The 2D drawing module is missing a lot of functionality. Should reach almost same level as SolidWorks.
Cannot automatic show the weight of part/assembly in drawing. Cannot edit the cross hatch density in drawings.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mechanical and structural design.
The 3D workflow is a lot faster that in traditional file based 3D CAD systems. Great in context editing functionality. Much easier to control versions and no need of PDM/PLM system. Much easier to do review with customers with the sharing functionality.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great and fast for 3D modeling. Great top down design, and no need of server for PDM system. Great sheet metal design module.
Be aware that the 2D drawing module still is a bit poor.

What do you like best about the product?
easiness of 3D modelling innovative aproach to modelling,
What do you dislike about the product?
not enough options in drawings preparation, problems with drawings eg table of parts
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
industry material handling devices
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great for quick concept preparation, 3D modelling.
Plastic prototyping.
What do you like best about the product?
Beeing an electric engineer with only very little CAD experience I love the short off distance. You get in to modeling really fast and have access to very powerful modeling tools in a very easily understandable interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
There ins't much to dislike. Possibly the fact that I'm not really a CAD designer not having the time to explore the software and the rest of the functions like analysis, version handling and more. I've had some trouble getting a good feel of the version handling. How to refine and clean up a version flow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can do designs fast where ever I'm at. No need for checking in and out designs. Beeing able to share the actual designs with anyone anywhere. I can present 3D models to customers and get 3D printed parts really fast.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try. It's great. . You can try it out as a full functioning software for free before making a desicion on purchasing.
Onshape VS Solidworks
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape has done a very good job at automating several tasks. They have made sheet metal design very easy. Click on a few model faces and "Bam" Instant sheet metal models. I also really enjoy the standard hardware for assemblies. It saves a lot of time in creating assemblies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Making drawings with Onshape lacks many necessary features that are standard in Solidworks. The simple task of adding center lines in exploded views does not exist. Solidworks can go between exploded and assembled in a single click. It also has a smart way of adding center lines to show a path for an exploded part. This is a standard drawing procedure that is missing in Onshape. Solidworks also shows sheet metal flat patterns in drawings. Onshape does show a flat pattern in the modeling process but doesn't make it available to insert into a drawing. Solidworks allows you to hide components from an assembly in a drawing. Onshape requires multiple assemblies to create variations in a drawing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape's cloud based system makes it very easy to work anyplace! It also solves the problem of needed multiple copies of files stored on different machines. The cloud system always guarantees everyone is working with the latest copy!! A huge plus when we have engineers in different locations.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The cloud based system and data management is very helpful! It solves the problem of backing up files every day and file sharing to offices all over the place.
We’re in Love
What do you like best about the product?
Going from Solidworks to OnShape has been amazing. All of our parts imported seamlessly. Their support and education is fantastic. And the interface is intuitive, resulting in a very short learning curve. The top-down capabilities make a massive difference in designing parts and making accurate prints. Cloud-based storage mean we never, ever lose work now. Best part - our computers don’t crash anymore!!
What do you dislike about the product?
We have trouble getting parts from OnShape to our older version of Solidworks when we need to, and the part analysis features are lacking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Never losing work and having the program work consistently without crashes and without having to pay massive amount for updates is hugely beneficial.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make the switch and just transfer everything over at once. We had this idea that we would slowly migrate, but it has just drug out the process and now we cry whenever we have to do something quickly and have to use the old system.
Modern collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
I like being able to share and work on components and assemblies while my colleagues around the world are also observing and collaborating (multiple users working in the same document at the same time) as well. Being able to share designs with permissions I can manage has allowed us to share concepts with multiple vendors and revoke permission from vendors not chosen.
The quick and frequent updates are also exciting and let me know this is a serious tool for professionals.

What do you dislike about the product?
Certain features are missing that could be misunderstood as this software not being ready for professionals. However, updates every three weeks keep me hopeful they will be ready soon.
I wish this tool were available 20 years ago.
I wish this tool were available 20 years ago.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We no longer need to upgrade our pdm system within Solidworks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it. The hardware requirements are small and the platform can be run from a phone or tablet. I have even used it with airplane wifi on an international trip!
Onshape....Not perfect, but hey its better than anything else out there
What do you like best about the product?
So easy to use, learn and always have the latest updates. No need for a Ferrari computer to run it on.
What do you dislike about the product?
Drawings have been vastly improved, but could be further improved.
The release process is still clunky and hard to work with.
The expression functions are great and I've asked and mprovement so that one set of expressions could be common across all part studios and assemblies for a single document. One change in the experession, perhaps even controlled by a master configurator for that document could be applied to every part in the document and simplify the design process even further.
My machine shop vendor is reluctant to use 3D models and sets up his CNC machines every time by hand, increasing costs. He's very very good though and I dont want to work with AN Other, but it would be great to get help to get them on board, so I can send them a link to the part and not have to bother printing off documents.
Talking of printing, it would be great to be able to print direct form Onshape, rather than to have download a pdf.

Easy to try out new ideas, then use connected Apps to run CFD and FEA studies anduse the feedback to optimise the design.

Onshape - Changing the way CAD works
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to work on projects anywhere and anytime means that no idea is lost, this also allows me to use my work account after hours for personal projects which is great, I also really like the parametric modelling tools makes life easy when importing models from other programs such as solidworks
What do you dislike about the product?
occasionally the graphics engine goes crazy, faces become invisible and solid objects become "glitchy" i have also found some errors in exported files when you have near zero thickness or sharp edges
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our business solely uses Onshape for their CAD solution, although we are small we see the benfits of using the cloud based cad
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Its worth it

What do you dislike about the product?
Not much, but when I last used Onshape for Engineering Drawings it needed some improvment, but I have to be honest and say that was a while ago and the rate that Onshape is being updated this has most likely already happened.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly Engineering Design type problems.
