Great Customer Support

  • September 18, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape's customer support is second to none. I have used several CAD packages over the years, but the very nature of having a web-based product allows them to virtually instantly react to any issue you may be having, and they are very quick to resolve the problem, or instruct you in the Onshape "Language" to be able to get the desired results.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wouldn't say that I dislike anything, but after using Onshape for the last few months, I would say that I'm still not sold on their "Part Studio / Assembly / Mate Connector" philosophy. I am still far more comfortable in the way Creo does these things, but I'm getting more accustomed to it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is our first foray into 3D cad in this company. Prior to my employment here, I used Creo for several years working for a competitor. We have definitely been proving the value of 3D design for our needs, and even vendors who supply parts for us are overjoyed with being able to get 3D STP files from us which aid in their manufacturing processes. We work in the Pro Audio Speaker industry.

Essential and well implemented version control and collaboration

  • September 14, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Good software with a decent tool set. Browser based so easy to use across all platforms. Cloud stored so very easy collaboration. Essential and well implemented version control - this is a must have if modern agile workflows are desired. Mating of parts in assemblies is amazing, doubt I could ever go back. Used to use Solidworks but the previous reasons made me choose to switch to Onshape for the beginning of our companies journey.
What do you dislike about the product?
Online only means you have to have internet, this can be annoying. This also means my computer can't help out if things are being slow which with large assemblies and in context design they can be. Although no slower than Solidworks on a decent workstation. Integrations like FEA and CAM are great but they are almost all more subscriptions so cost is ridiculous if you only need it rarely. My personal gripe is that recently they have changed the terms and conditions so that with the free account you designs are public property. As an design engineer and a maker this means I can't use Onshape for my private use and so have to use a different CAD package outside work. If I had known this it would have seriously made me consider other options for my company.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing of machines for automation of microfluidics for life sciences
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Unfortunately Onshape is moving more to the professional market and leaving makers in the dust with price increases and terms and condition changes. This makes sense as they are following the money. If this bothers you as it does me then consider other options carefully. Regardless Onshape is an excellent CAD system and they are leading the way in CAD innovation. This is the future of CAD, I am certain.

    Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing

Great CAD.

What do you like best about the product?
It frees up IT and don't have to worry about implementing updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not come across anything that has caused me to dislike OnShape.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not only creating new models and drawings, but being able to scan our current drawings and link them to our MRP system for others to view the drawings on the computer and print them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you work on projects and gather other information and would like it in one place and to be able to access anywhere you can get an internet connection, this is amazing.

Dare to draw

  • September 05, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to learn, funny to use (I am 62!). Efficient remote collaboration. Possibility to re-use other format. No need for a heavy duty computer etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Data organisation a little bit to loose. It could be awkward for very big projects (not my case).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I may concretize my concepts by myself after years of slower delegation. In two words, beter and quicker products.

    Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing

Well designed user interface. Fun to use.

What do you like best about the product?
Use Onshape for both business and personal use. Can use on any computer or mobile device anywhere with internet connection. Training and tutorials are top notch.
What do you dislike about the product?
Could use some additional drawing tools in 2D drawing mode.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primarily use Onshape to create files for 3D printing of test fixture components as well as models and drawings for light fixtures. Adds great value in preparation of proposals for potential customers. Even used it to design my backyard deck.

Onshape - a great tool for design and engineering!

  • September 03, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to learn, and new updates comes rapidly.
What do you dislike about the product?
The surface modeling is not good enough just yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are developing the worlds first hydraulic hand prosthesis, and are using Onshape for advanced mechanical design and engineering.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Onshape is easy and intuitive to learn. But you need to change your mindset regards to the "branches", compared what you might be used to in Solidworks or other CAD tools.

The Future of Modeling is Here

  • September 02, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape provides outstanding support and is constantly improving and expanding capabilities. Capabilities were great when I started 18 months ago but much better now. The capabilities expand so fast there is always something new and better to learn about it!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes loading models bogs down and it is quite easy to build a model that will load very slowly. We need tips on making things streamlined. The new "time required" info in the drawing window is a huge step forward. I would also prefer if Onshape staff would put a day or so into creating a better library of profiles for the "Beams" script. This would save me a bunch of time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We constantly design new separation and processing equipment and systems. We couldn't work without Onshape. The ability to pull up earlier versions takes all the fear out of changing important drawings. It is so easy to build 2D drawings for part manufacture.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get started! you will love it.

    Automotive

Web based, clean sheet well thought out Cad software.

  • September 01, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Onshape on a daily basis and really like the web based nature. The sharing capability and the built in PDM work very well. I never had a crash and you always can go back into history and roll back if needed. The subscription price as of now is still reasonable for what you get. Well thought out releases of new features and funtionality every 3 or 4 weeks. Onshape seems to listen to their customers when it comes to needed features and funtionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
It took a long time for Onshape to add CAM capabilities (still in Beta), ultimately designs need to be manufactured.
I have no problem paying for goods and services however subscription based software can become convoluted (terms & conditions) and costly if you were to grow a company and need more seats.
From what I read on the forum it still lags on some features for other specific industries, wire routing, sheet metal etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We design products and molds for themoforming and organic surfaces that are 3D printed. We were able to share designs in an efficient manner with our customers an vendors.

    Design

Good product for typical engineering design and great service

  • August 31, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Configurations and other PDM features are top notch. The ability to link documents, and the use of release management can really improve workflows and productivity in design management
What do you dislike about the product?
Even after much requestes, and the fact that a significant section of the CAD community needs such tools for most design, Onshape still lacks good surface modeling tools. This has to be improved to make Onshape a worthy competitor to other modeling platforms
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As we have a complicated Product structure with configured parts, use of Onshape and its powerful configurations and Release Management features has helped us to eliminate the lack of undertainity regarding the status and location of CAD files and not having to spend tens of thousand son a bulky PDM system to then solve that issue

Love this CAD!!

  • August 30, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how user friendly it is. It is very simple but powerful!
What do you dislike about the product?
Haven't found anything yet. It is usually just figuring out how to do it...so it's more of a self training issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
File and configuration management. Now we have on location that all our CAD data is stored and version controlled.
