Incredible, Forward Looking CAD Package
What do you like best about the product?
OnShape is a modern cloudbased mechanical CAD system from the company PTC. As well as full modelling capabilities, OnShape comes included with full version/change control features and integrates well with Arena (also PTC) for producdute lifecycle management. Our team moved over to OnShape from SolidWorks and found the process of implementing the new CAD system very easy, especially compared with systems like SolidWorks PDM which requires 3rd party resellers to help setup.
Unlike oldschool CAD packages, which at best recieve a few small updates every-year, OnShape improves very quickly, having big updates every 3 weeks or so. As a part modeller, on-shape is easily as good if not better than its competitors like SolidWorks. It takes a different approach to assembly modelling, which is more performant. It is catching up quickly with other CAD packages regarding engineering drawing features. It also features some simulation and rendering capabilities; both produce decent results quickly, but are not the main focus of the software. A huge benefit of Onshape being cloud based is that it is far more stable than locally run CAD systems, it virtually never crashes and I have never lost any data having used this extensively amost everyday for over a year.
Our team vastly prefers OnShapes business model compared to that of SolidWorks. Rather than paying a third-party-reseller licences, set-up, PDM server setup (which is a nightmare to maintain and will need continuous 3rd party support to be functional), separate costs for its various licences, and subscription fees, everything is covered under one cost with OnShape, and you deal with the company directly rather than through third parties. This has worked out as far cheaper for our team, with much less of our engieers time spent on admin. Customer support are very helpful and are easy to access through online chats, forums, or teams calls.

What do you dislike about the product?
Compared to other CAD packages OnShape is the best, although you may not find all of the specific features that you are used to. The OnShape team add features very frequently though (updates every ~3 weeks) and requests for new features can be made and voted on in the forums. Custom features can also be written and shared if you feel that there is a specific feature missing or something that would be useful to automate for your workflow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
OnShape is now our main and only mechanical CAD package used by our designers. It also servers the purpose of PDM and PLM (when paired with Arena) which was previously done by SolidWorks PDM, which we were not happy with. It helps the mechanical team share ideas with the rest of the business with the far cheaper view only licenses that are available.
OnShape CAD solution
What do you like best about the product?
The option to share files and allow others to interact with the created files has been pretty powerful of a development tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest issue I've had with Onshape has been the assembly build and edit option. It is less intuitive than some of the other CAD options I've used but I'm getting it figured out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape is a more affordable, fully functional CAD system that allows for full development and design. It allows me to be able to do my design work with ease and functionality while also being able to share and collaborate on projects.
Easy to use and super reliable
What do you like best about the product?
I love how OnShape is completely browser based so there is never any down time and never have to worry about loosing your data. The sketch and modeling environment is the best I've used it of any CAD platform!
What do you dislike about the product?
OnShape is still in its infancy so there are some features missing or not quite finished.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows me to design and access my files anywhere. It also just works very little errors or issues!
Great Cloud based CAD
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the cloud based approach because I can work on my projects from anywhere with any device, it runs smoothly without any problems. One of the biggest advantages of Onshape is the cloud saving. You never loose any progress if the device is crashing.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't found any things about Onshape I didn't like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape is helping me to increase my productivit by enabling me to create new designs while taking luchbreak at my main job. The second problem Onshape solved is the data loss in case my pc crashes. If my pc somehow crashes Onshape automatically saves everything.
Best CAD software for collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
I love the ease of design control and real time collaboration with Onshape. It provides the best of both worlds for file control and design exploration, all while maintaining revision control and the ability to explore with branches and merge concepts back it. It is easy to install and roll out. The training modules quickly bring ne and experienced CAD users into the new tool. There is no need to maintain multiple version of the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is missing developed CAM options and circuit design, but they are quickly coming up to speed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape provides real time collaboration, which accelerates out design and development. The cloud based solution also means I don't need to have high end computers to run the software. The design in context helps manage design integration across multiple manufacturing stations that or managed by other engineers.
Easy collaborative CAD and analysis
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to use any browser, collaborate on the same part/assembly, integration with various online analysis tools, user created tools
What do you dislike about the product?
Workflow is occasionally clunky, but otherwise not much to dislike
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CAD design for laser cutting, 3D printing, and FEA
Onshape = CAD Gamechanger
What do you like best about the product?
You don`t need a CAD PC. You can work everywhere with a CAD System!
PDM System is integrated, you don`t need a 2nd programm for that. And it works fine.
Btw. no crashes like other cad programms!

What do you dislike about the product?
Sometime the Cad Mouse doesn`t work with Firefox.
So we must restart the 3d mouse and then re login to onshape -> after that it works perfectly again.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Next level CAD System.
Iam really impressed. Cloud system - really nice.

Onshape
What do you like best about the product?
The cloud functionally, zero install time or crashes
What do you dislike about the product?
Could be nice with more motion simulation
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaborative and iterative design work across the atlantic
Convenient in the initial design process but flawed in some later stages
What do you like best about the product?
The accessibility of Onshape is remarkable. And it becomes more useful when you want a feedback from your senior as quickly as possbile. In terms of part design, it is simply too convenient to have all the parts to be glanced in a single 3d environment other than the assembly.
What do you dislike about the product?
That being said, it still has a long way to go, for example drawing environment is not up to the standard set by its peers. Drawing environment is simply too inconsistent for a long session.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In terms of quick designing and showing to the customer to get a feedback, it is pretty fast in that regard.
Hands down the best parametric modeling software or SAAS available
What do you like best about the product?
Impossible to decide, some highlights are:
-The git like versioning and history gives you ultimate control of every move you make
-inbuilt featurescript language lets you make custom features super effectively
-browser based means I can work from an internet cafe or even my phone

What do you dislike about the product?
Dimensionsing and annotation in drawings is limited.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's allowing me to automate steps in my workflow on top of fast ticket response and active forum replies to both issues and feature requests.
