Easy to Use, High-Performance Platform with Strong AI, API Integrations, and Support
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use and performance stand out, along with the AI features and API integrations. I also appreciate the support teams available over chat, as well as our direct teams. The customizations are helpful too, especially since they’re role-based.
What do you dislike about the product?
With the API-specific rules, if a user doesn’t have permission to access certain materials, those items can’t be pulled through the API. In stricter situations, it would be helpful if users could retrieve data even when it falls outside their role permissions. Creating an API role dashboard could make that possible and give us a clearer way to manage access. Also, we’re not fans of the discussion boards; that area feels clunky and is hard for students to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
At this time, we’re solving many of our own problems through API calls. One area we haven’t been able to address is API-controlled course merging. Since we have Ellucian ILP, we’ve exhausted all other ideas, but this remains unresolved.
Robust Features with Community Engagement, Needs Mobile App Improvements
What do you like best about the product?
I like how customer-focused D2L is. They have a product idea exchange where you can submit your ideas and vote on other people's ideas. D2L does actually look at these ideas and I have seen ideas be implemented in the platform. It feels nice to be listened to. They also facilitate a robust user community website and community-focused events.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would love it if the mobile app allowed students to submit activities (assignments, discussions, quizzes) or allowed the instructors to author content and grade. There are places where the platform is inconsistent across tools. For example, deleting a grade item is a different workflow from deleting an assignment. It makes it harder to train our instructors on how to use the tool when workflows are different across tools for a similar task.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L Brightspace provides a hub for each course, allowing instructors to share materials, collect submissions, and give feedback. Students can easily view course materials and notifications on mobile devices.
User Feedback - Continually Improving
What do you like best about the product?
Its willingness to ask for and act upon suggested changes from users.
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Changes get made without notifying users unless they subscribe to certain D2L community groups. 2. There does not seem to be cogent reasons for some suggested changes made by users to be ignored while lesser, more esoteric changes are worked on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Recently, D2L changed the horizontal movement capability in Grades. That has made a difference. But only because I participated in a community discussion did I learn of another, more effective way to scroll left and right in Grades. It might be advantageous to make available mini ("chunked up"_ videos of Brightspace features.
Modern, Easy-to-Use Platform with Smooth Performance and Helpful Support
What do you like best about the product?

Tech support has been good.
Intelligent agents are super helpful!

What do you dislike about the product?
I can't really think of anything. Sorry!
We were with moodle before and I find Brightspace so much easier to use.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes our courses more modern. Love how we can make groups in your courses, and also add enrichment opportunities or extra review for students based on how they score on an assignment
Relevant, Timely YouTube Tutorials That Truly Help
What do you like best about the product?
the recorded YouTube tutorials are relevant, timely and helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
As is true of many software platforms, modifications and preferences are presented too early in the training- it becomes overwhelming.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asynchronous learning platform with cross course tracking of competencies and communication directly with students is really helping meet our accreditation standards.
Efficient, Customizable, and Intuitive
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate D2L Brightspace's better analytics compared to other systems and find it easier to upload content. The gradebook is also a lot better. I like the user progress tool, which allows both learners and faculty members to see exactly what students have visited and completed in the course. It's been a great tool to show students what they've completed when needed. Additionally, the initial setup was made easy by the wonderful implementation team. Shelby kept us on track, and Derrick did a fantastic job of customizing the system to fit our needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
One limitation we have found is it's confusing that every class creates a template.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I find D2L Brightspace provides better analytics, simplifies content uploads, and offers an improved gradebook. The user progress tool is particularly helpful for tracking student activity and completion, providing both learners and faculty a clear view.
Powerful Learning Analytics, but Transparency Needs Improvement
What do you like best about the product?
Some of the biggest upsides to using Brightspace are the opportunities to gather super meaningful learning analytics. From the programmatic perspective, this is incredibly useful to identity patterns in student learning, which can help inform course iterations. When set up strategically, a learning design team can find areas in the content students are struggling with. That information can, in turn, lead to the creation/revision of additional exercises to help future students avoid that struggle.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the least helpful aspects of Brightspace is the way its tools communicate with each other. For some workflows, it feels like the Assignments and Grades tools live on different planets. In order to make the two tools talk efficiently to each other, a person really needs to be SUPER familiar with them. Users new to Brightspace (i.e. a new adjunct) might make assumptions about how these tools talk to each other - which are likely incorrect.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L continuously work on updates to many of its internal tools, which is always promising. For instance, they recently rolled out a much-needed updated to include the option to set a due date on the Discussions tool. Great!
Clean, Easy-to-Use Courses with Standout Tools and Unmatched D2L Support
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the clear layout of the courses. Courses look fresh, clean, and easy to use for both staff and students. The added bonus that really adds to the experience is tools like QuickEval, Class Progress and Intelligent Agents. These tools make Brightspace stand out from the crowd when it comes to other VLE's and provide our staff with the tools that can help them stage academic interventions. These tools allow our staff to quickly pinpoint students progress and intervene using automated emails. I also like how it integrates with existing tools we use (Turnitin, SCORM, Respondus, YuJa Panorama, Microsoft Teams). The integrations are easy to manage and create a seamless experiences for our staff and learners. Finally I would have to argue that the support from D2L is unmatched, any issues we have faced have been resolved swiftly and the active community sites help with day-to-day queries.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some areas where I personally feel like Brightspace is lacking data analytics. One example would be when an announcement is posted in a course it would be great to see how many students have read the announcement (this is a feature available in Blackboard). While the impact is minimal it was a well used feature in our previous VLE, allowing staff to track engagement with their learners. I have no major dislikes with the VLE - performance is good, it runs well and quickly, my dislikes are minor "niggles" where I wish you could change the background colour, or have more options for release conditions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With our previous VLE we definitely had issues where some teaching teams rarely used the tool. This was usually down to the perceived difficulty in adding materials to a course. Brightspace immediately brought down those barriers for those teams. Its opened up a digital space for those teams to work online with their students and provide an area for materials to be collated as well as encouraged them to try more digital tools and overall boosted their technical knowledge.
This has also encouraged many teams to start using digital assessments (Quizzes) that mark automatically saving time on grading student work. It has also allowed us to save money by ending our contract with a tool that was used for assessment (Questionmark).

Reliable, Accessible LMS with Outstanding D2L Support
What do you like best about the product?
After 17 years of working with D2L Brightspace, I continue to be impressed by its reliability, accessibility, and user centered design. The platform is easy to navigate, with clearly organized tools that support both instructors and learners. Brightspace’s emphasis on accessibility has consistently made it possible to create inclusive, high quality online learning experiences.
Equally valuable is the outstanding support provided by the D2L team. Their responsiveness, expertise, and genuine commitment to customer success have been consistent throughout my experience. Combined with the system’s long term stability and dependable performance, Brightspace has proven to be a trustworthy, well evolved LMS that I’m proud to recommend.

What do you dislike about the product?
I wouldn’t really use the word “dislike.” There are just a few things I’d like to see improved, especially in the attendance area. For example, the name column isn’t fixed the way it is in the gradebook, which makes the attendance view less user-friendly and a bit harder to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Brightspace has been a reliable learning management system for us, and we’ve been using it for 17 years. It provides a clean, well-organized space for both instructors and students. That reliability has helped me in my job because I can spend less time dealing with day-to-day issues and more time focusing on other priorities, including introducing new features and improvements within Brightspace.
Effortless Organization and Usability for Students

What do you dislike about the product?
I don’t have any negative feedback.
