I think Amplitude is a great tool , the interface is fluent and instinctive.

What do you like best about the product?
The creation of event segmentation and funnel analysis charts feels immediatly familiar and allows quickly display needed information.
What do you dislike about the product?
I had a hardtime finding documentation about the syntax of formulas. I also feel there is a lack of onboarding regarding more advanced features. The management of items ownership could also be improved. To modify a chart, one needs to ask for the modification rights to do so. It's often been a lost of time/ bottleneck in our organisation.
I also prefered the previous interface that didn't require a click to open the menu. The new one requires an additional click to perform most interactions. It's more adapted to small screens though which is a good point but in my case, most of the time when I'm working on Amplitude, I'm using a wide screen and don't necessarly need layout thinked to optimize space on the interface. I'd rather have it optimized to make the experience as fluid as possible.
Finally I'd like to setup alerts when some specific conversion rates go below a certain level. It may be possible, I haven't looked into it yet but it's not obvious to me for now.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows me to follow very precisely the conversion rates and user behaviours on our site. And so, when deploying a new feature or improvement, we're easily able to provide a post implementation analysis based on data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a need of easing the monitoring of user behaviours on your platform, I'd say without hesitating you should go for Amplitude Analytics.

Best product analytics tools for Product Managers

  • March 05, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Amplitude Analytics for a long time and they have any many types of analysis tools required for me to accurately measure my business performance
What do you dislike about the product?
The downside of Amplitude is that to access a much richer analysis, you need to upgrade to a premium plan. The plans however are quite expensive and it would be nice if they have startup package
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used Amplitude to understand how our users behave in our apps. What actions that they performed, how is their customer journey, what is our user segmentation. All those answers can be answered with Amplitude and I can optimize my app appropriately.

Another thing that I did not like is that to properly use Amplitude Analytics, it will take some amount of time to master including experimenting with the app and reading the documentation throughtly. I have to teach the business users many times on how to use the Amplitude analytics properly so it can support their business needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend others to read the documentation and setup guide for Amplitude analytics. It is a very strong tools and you can get a lot insights by mastering it. However, the learning curve is definitely not easy and it will take some time to understand how it works. Generally, if you are coming from tech background, it should be easier to understand the technical terms and you will have better learning curve

Easy peasy

What do you like best about the product?
I like the simplicity of the tool. I can easily set up individual boards and don't have to reset the filters every week to view the same report.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really, it's an intuitive tool for my non-analytical self.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm learning about how often our users access our app, and export the usage reports to our paying clients.

Amplitude has changed the way we do business

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It has given us the possibility to review every move of our customers with ease. Our entire team is constantly reviewing reports and making product-led management decisions thanks to Amplitude. I don't know what we would do without it anymore now that we understand all the benefits. We review our signups, our drop-out points within our app, the impact certain actions have on the retention of our users, our churn rate and the factors impacting churn. It is really incredible how much these insights help in our day-to-day business. I probably log in to Amplitude 3-10 times a day and really enjoy checking and tracking all the data.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have no bad word to say about Amplitude. It is really one of the most useful tools I have ever used. The only thing that can be improved is making it a bit more idiot-proof. It takes a bit to get used to it and understand all the THOUSANDS of possible reports you can run. I was using the basic version for the longest time until I saw what our CTO did with it - it's magical!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problem of not having any clue of how our product is used. With Amplitude we can now finally understand our user behavior and focus on creating a product that sells by itself.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn how to use it right from the beginning. The more you understand it upfront, the more value it can provide. It is a really valuable tool!

Great tool in the right hands

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the visual tagger feature of the tool - which allows non-devs to create events, goals, etc. This has been a godsend for companies with crappy or immature websites.
What do you dislike about the product?
The limit of 50 visual tagger events is a little low and the actual tool is a bit clunky or buggy, but the output is still very worthwhile.

One limitation is the available connections - although if you have a tool like Segment or Tray.io (fancy) it shouldn't be too bad to get your events in Amplitude. Also, it is a very expensive tool.

It is also not the most intuitive tool for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Understanding user behaviour, UX/UI, and customer success. The tool is meant to report.

Amplitude is great for creating dashboards and visualizing activity on the website, but it does need more connectivity. Also, it is a very expensive tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
More visual tagger events.

The best analytics platform on the market

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude is so easy to use yet so powerful, custom events are my favourite thing. Team spaces make it really easy to work with my colleagues and collaborate on projects.

Integrates nicely with other products we use like iterable.

Really helpful support and API documentation meant I picked things up quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
As a new user not everything was clear to me straight away, had to do a lot of reading to pick things up. Some people in my organisation found it confusing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using amplitude to test various tweaks in the platform and get a sense of overall engagement with our application, realised what we needed to work on to achieve better engagement.

Amplitude - the tool that finally answers the time on site question for our SaaS product

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We have been using the free tier of Amplitude for a very basic integration with collecting data for pageview events on our marketing site for the past year. About a month ago, we decided to start sending in our actual user data, to see what more insights we might gain over the other BI tools we were currently using.
The best 5 minute fix ever, was that with our customer session data going to amplitude, we finally have a complete picture for how many sessions users have per day, and how long those sessions last. This is something that none of the other BI tools we user can provide, and due to the nature of our app, we were unable to calculate ourselves.
What do you dislike about the product?
The free version of Amplitude can get you pretty far. You can learn a lot about your users, and you have 10 million events per month you can record. We happen to be right at that 10 million limit, and in fact had to turn off a few of our more verbose events to keep us under the threshold. I would like to see a higher limit to the event count.
A few of the best tools are of course locked behind the paid version. We would really like to use these tools, but the cost to jump from the free tier, to the lowest paid tier, is more than 6x what we are paying for our existing BI tools. For us we cannot make the case that the value is there, without knowing that we would get a fair ROI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All BI tools have their corner cases where you just cannot see what you are looking for. Sometimes it is the way reports are formatted, sometimes it is the way that you can query the data. Amplitude gives us another angle to get at some of the questions in a different way, that we were not getting from our other tools.

One feature that I find very useful is the ability to take multiple events that we already have, and create a custom event based on any of them.
For instance during signup, the user has a chance to make several different choices on how to set up their account. Sometimes we would like to see just one metric for if they chose any of a particular path. Instead of trying to query each path individually, we can take multiple events, and combine them into a new single event. Then we can look and see how many users did the overall event, as opposed to those who did not, and then break that event down further into its own sub events that we already had available.

I also like the ability to click on just about any point on any chart, and see the users who are in that data set, view their first 5 actions since their session start, and dive into each of them.

Something that amplitude does a little better than other tools I have used, is in mapping users across devices. Each device that the user is on gets its own device ID, and we noted that even when hot swapping devices (handing it off to another person to use) that Amplitude was able to correctly track when one user stopped using the device, and anther user signed in to use our app. We have not seen any cases where users were merged into the same account because of device sharing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are on the fence at all, you have nothing to lose by trying out the free version. There is a world of great data that you can get to this way. The paid part of the app feels like it would be a great addition, and they give you the ability to try that part out with their very detailed demo data set. But nothing really tells you if you are going to get that same level out of your own data.
For free though, give it a try.

- Free version is a very good start
- It helps to understand users
- It helps to solve tech issues and find bugs inside the app

Amazing software for analyzing Product Analytics (app/web focused)

  • March 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude makes it incredibly easy to evaluate product analytics for mobile apps and websites. It's one of my favorite tools to use to view what's going on with our product funnels and segment out based on tons of attributes (many provided with the SDK) and the ability to link our user attribute tables as well. I'd say it's got one of the easiest UIs to understand and start building complex analysis.

Amplitude has great customer support and service as well, I've had great resources when questions appeared about the product.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there were more integrations with A/B testing platforms. It's a little difficult to link A/B testing softwares into Amplitude beyond populating user attributes and segmenting out those users.

It's a product that works for product analytics (web/app) but it's not a replacement for core business measurement better fit to tools such as Looker or Tableau. This can make it hard to get budget since the tool isn't incredibly cheap (but still competitively priced).

Segment is pushed as the universal tool for streaming events, while it's an awesome addition I wish Amplitude had a solution for this as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
On the product side we use it for evaluating business funnels, core actions we want users to take, analyzing between A/B tests/user cohorts, and identifying areas of opportunity for us to leverage. Key benefits have been the ability for PMs to take the wheel and explore data quickly, prior to using Amplitude we were heads down in SQL or working with data teams to get analytics together. We have benefited by our exploration and have been able to identify areas for us to improve our product that would have likely been locked away in some backlog/competing priority tickets for our data science team to identify.
