The best tool for product analytics

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It solves most product analytics questions with a few clicks and the speed for query is fast. It liberate analysts from trivial tasks and enpowers the whole team to be data-informed. Easy -to- use interface allows non-data people to get onboarded quickly. It also provides a collaboration platform with notebook, dashboard and team space.
What do you dislike about the product?
With so many features, queries can get complicated and sometimes it's not easy to interpret chart correctly. Therefore there is space for improvment for documentation and user interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Answer product questions such as funnel, retention and pathfinder with quick speed and high flexibility, which enable product team to move fast and interate fast.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think it's the best product analytics tool in the market.

Saves me a lot of time and gets me to the right insights

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
All our product analytics data goes to Amplitude and that is great because I can easily create dashboards that I can look at every day but if I need to look at some specific data or at different timeframes e.g. for my quarterly state of the product reports everything is just one click away.

The whole team is there and can look at the same dashboards and create their own based on their need.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not much that I dislike, really.
The product has a lot of features that I am probably not using just because I don't know about them.
Maybe one thing that is missing is the ability to create a full-screen dashboard to be displayed on the big TV in the team room, or maybe I have just not yet found this feature. In any case, in this forced home office due to COVID-19, this is not a super must-have feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It gives me a unified view of how my products are doing and growing and I can also correlate the data and user behavior across multiple products.

It's a great way to also share insights and charts with the rest of my team and stakeholders and discuss our understanding of the data and how it correlates with qualitative feedback.

Compared with a self-built more legacy solution that we are using for another product that has been around for longer, it helps me get to the right data and the right insights in a matter of minutes instead of days.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Spend time reading the docs and figuring out all the features that you need to leverage the full power of the tool.
Segment is a great option for data ingestion and allows you to send the data also to other places, which is cool.

straightforward to use, great functionality, clean UI

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1. straightforward to use, doesn't require tons of training
2.Great functions, helpful to play around while using, also good documentation
3. Clean UI, doesn't look over whelming or intimidating
What do you dislike about the product?
1. I want to choose my own color palette, there are too few options in terms of color, limiting a lot of visualization possibilities.
2. I would like to be able to size the charts in a dashboard by my wish, there is only half-width or full width, this sometimes makes the dashboards look boring
3. When searching users' activity log, I hope to highlight and filter can both be applied. You know it sometimes is just hard to limit to only the events you need but you can't see what's happening before or after.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Conversion funnels analyses. Very convenient to use and gives clear results on the conversion rates. great functions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
What I like the most about Amplitude is it is super straightforward to use Amplitude, it has clean UI and clear documentation. You don't have to know JS to create a dashboard but only Watch some of the demos on youtube or just google it before using it. Because amplitude to too smart and easy to use, only be careful of misusing them to get misleading results. Also, the UI is clean and you just need to follow your instinct and click around. You won't have tons of buttons to click on, and it doesn't look overwhelming at all. Just start simple and Amplitude will lead you there.
My advice for people hesitating about using Amplitude take a few minutes to watch the documentation or some short videos on youtube, you will be amazed at how various different types of analysis Amplitude can do.

Democratization of data at its finest

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Really easy to get started with. Not much of a learning curve besides being familiar with different types of charts and analyses. The platform is made for people who don't have any formal training in data science or product analytics. It helps if you do because you'll get a lot more out of the tool itself if you know what type of data you're after.

I particularly like how the interface uses a lot of human friendly language. The UI is presented in a jargon-free way, which makes it really easy for anyone to construct a query.
What do you dislike about the product?
The strengths definitely outweigh the flaws. I think the usefulness of the tool will come down to how your organization uses and implements analytics in the day-to-day work. I found many of the charts that Amplitude offers out of the box aren't super compatible with the way we instrument our events, but nonetheless it provides a good starting point.

Using Amplitude isn't going to make you a data scientist or product analytics expert, but it will give you the necessary information to feel more informed. That said, you do need to spend some time to make sense of the data. Amplitude makes it easy to create charts, etc but the interpretation of the data is still fundamentally up to you. They have some great docs that accompany this, so you should be in good hands even if you don't have a dedicated analytics expert to work with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Democratizing data is such an important part to building great products. The more we make it easier to consume data and derive insights, the better decisions we make. Amplitude's low barrier to adoption makes it really straightforward for teams to wrangle data and self-serve. As a result, we've made much more informed tradeoff decisions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Would highly recommend doing a thorough analysis of your own data infrastructure and maturity before implementing Amplitude. While it does make it easier to get access to data, that will ultimately depend on your implementation and business model.

Monitoring User Behaviour regarding our Product

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have worked with Amplitude quite a bit now, and I found it really advanced, especially when it comes to monitoring data and categorizing the users. It gives us a well-defined perspective of how our product is being interpreted by the users, and we can categorize the users in many ways like location, organizations they belong to, etc. Once the users are being categorized then one can view the interpretation of those particular users too. I found Amplitude to be insightful as well as really flexible in creating charts, and easy to use.

The Path-Finder feature in Amplitude, which gives the path of the users, where all they visited within your product, they were very helpful for business insights. There are filter options on event-properties as well and we can hide the events as well on charts which gives us a very dynamic view and helps up filtering out what we are interested in exactly, making it very flexible.

The charts can be saved in a single dashboard for easier navigation in the future and sharing an edited version of the chart is very easy. We do not need to overwrite the chart to share it, a sharable link is provided just for edited charts, this makes team collaboration over the charts very easy to use.

The funnel analysis and trends allow the job to be done in more detail and depth, with this it is much easier to notice when these characteristics or some type of problem began. Amplitude comprises great tools and features that give the user an easy and efficient way to do their job. All in all, I found the product to be great, simple, flexible, and really powerful. This solved a lot of our problems, if Amplitude wouldn't have been there, we would have found it really difficult to do what we did.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some charts are a bit complex to understand, like the Stickiness chart for example. The percentage of user-weeks is not very obvious and requires quite a bit of drilling in it.

Once any form of data has been sent to Amplitude it can't be deleted which makes developing and debugging a bit difficult. Let's say for example we misspelled an event-name, that event-name is forever there now in Amplitude. If we had functionality to delete data that would be great! Nonetheless, it's a great platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking user-behavior to optimize our product design is the main use case for using Amplitude for us. What is the percentage of users who visit our website on a daily basis/weekly basis, what org they belong to? what features are predominantly used? These were the main problems that we dealt with and Amplitude was a really good product for it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The documentation of the products is really well written. Simple to use and a very powerful tool, the data once in Amplitude cannot be deleted, so while developing apps be careful that you don't send illogical data there. Pathfinder and Segmentation and Funnel Analysis are really cool features to start with, these features will cover like 90% of all the user-behavior trends.

Great for in-depth product analytics, initial instrumentation and GUI have a learning curve

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Once you have Amplitude setup and have things working it is a very powerful tool for product managers or data scientists to view and track metrics. It allows users to monitor KPIs through the instrumentation of CTA links, webpage URLs, and much more. It works well with products that have a UI or are UI-less (API only). Some of the user cases we leverage it for are: Churn Analysis & User Retention, Analyzing User Journeys, and Tracking Page Views/Clicks
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a slight learning curve for users when it comes to the Amplitude experience. At first, it can be overwhelming so you'll definitely have to go through a tutorial or walkthrough to understand which features you want to leverage. Instrumentation of your webpages, APIs, or applications is an initial barrier to entry, but once you have that set up it works quite well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Depends on the product I was working on, but mainly leveraged Amplitude for Churn Analysis (i.e. tracking user conversions) as well as seeing where users got lost. Their Pathfinder feature is quite useful in that you can specify and starting or ending point and it will show all the paths users take to get there.

    Computer Software

Easy to use, powerful tool provides fast answers to questions

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The UI is simple and intuitive, and there's a chart type for every need. I can make simple graphs, or really dig in and uncover interesting insights. Amplitude lets me compile my analysis into a notebook or create a dashboard. It's easy to share my results with colleagues. Every change I make in a chart changes the URL, so it's super easy to copy/paste, collaborate and show others exactly what I'm doing. This has saved me countless hours.

Amplitude also provides a great governance system so I can easily validate and approve new events, add descriptions and categorizations. This really helps with organization, since we have over 1,000 event types to keep track of. They also provide automated monitoring so if an event stops coming in, it will alert me.
What do you dislike about the product?
Each event needs to be custom coded in our product, which requires engineering effort. I like that this gives me control over what data I send to Amplitude (after all, with data it's very much junk in - junk out), however, it means my requests compete with other engineering requests.

It also took me some time to fully understand the best ways to structure and send the events. There are definitely good and bad ways to structure events that make it much easier/harder to make the graphs you want.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it to track product engagement metrics, inform design/UI changes, target marketing, and A/B testing. These help us make better product decisions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try! There is a test account you can use to play around with that is a fake music player app.
