Offers excellent flexibility and impressive features such as Secure FTP and Secure Mail

  • May 09, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use GoAnywhere MFT for managed file transfer, secure mail feature, and SFTP. It serves as our SFTP system.

How has it helped my organization?

We utilize the GoAnywhere Agent, which allows us to connect internally to our network. It functions similarly to a VPN tunnel. With the cloud version, there is minimal maintenance involved, including no need to worry about security certificate updates.

Overall, it's been a good product for us, and I'm very happy with the support. There is also the ease of administration. You don't have to be a coding expert or anything like that to be able to create complex managed file transfer jobs.

What is most valuable?

The whole application of GoAnywhere MFT is excellent. The user interface is intuitive. The flexibility for creating projects for managed file transfer is quite robust. I can easily add new modules to any project through a drag and drop process, which is really nice. I have the ability to manually edit the XML code that is produced when creating a project using that method. I can also export the XML code.

The Secure FTP feature gives me the ability to manually block IP addresses. It's a very secure system that automatically blocks certain IP addresses after multiple malicious connection attempts. Setting up new accounts is straightforward, and it's a robust SFTP system that uses the same interface as the regular GoAnywhere MFT, making it familiar for users. I can produce reports for security and have full control over secure protocols allowed on the system, making it easy to comply with security standards such as Sarbanes-Oxley.

The Secure Mail feature is impressive. I've worked with several different secure mail applications, and this one has comparable features. You can dictate security levels, such as requiring a username and password or simply sending links. It also allows business users to request large files from vendors or partners without utilizing an FTP system for large file transfers. When requesting files, recipients can click on a link and upload their file through a secure file transfer. If I needed a 200-gig file from you, I could send you a request. You click on the link, and then you can upload your file. It's a secure file transfer. That's a nice feature about it.

What needs improvement?

The application uses resources such as network connections to shared directories or SFTP connections. I would appreciate seeing utilization metrics for these resources. For example, when opening a resource, it would be beneficial to see which projects are utilizing that resource. A project transfers files from one location to another, and these locations are the resources. When opening the configuration for a resource such as an SFTP site, it would be helpful if it displayed which projects are utilizing that resource.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the product. We did have some issues a couple of months back where we were having some unscheduled outages, and the support team worked with me closely and provided a solution that appears to have fixed the problem. I haven't seen any issues in over a month now.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the cloud version of GoAnywhere MFT for approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We experienced some unscheduled outages a couple of months back, but the support team worked closely with us and provided a solution that appears to have fixed the problem. Essentially, the application needed to be updated to the current version, so I really can't blame the application because our cloud wasn't on the current version. We have a very crowded schedule as far as our MFT jobs are concerned. The delay was because I had to wait after we went through payroll and month closing tasks before doing an upgrade. We did experience a little bit of trouble, but it was resolved quickly.

How are customer service and support?

The experience was excellent. The support technician who worked with me initially owned the ticket through the whole process, even after escalating to developers or higher-level support. The technician stayed with the ticket until resolution and followed up afterward.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The nearest alternative I've used is Oracle Cloud Integrations, which is essentially a fancy managed file transfer system. It has connections similar to resources and file transfer capability, including SFTP capability. It does not have secure mail capability, but it is comparable to an Oracle Integration type system.

How was the initial setup?

I've been with the company for 25 years. Prior to using the cloud version of GoAnywhere MFT, we were hosting GoAnywhere MFT in-house. It was an on-prem system, whereas now, we're in the cloud. We've been using the cloud version for only two years, but we used the in-house version for six years prior to that. I was instrumental in moving to the cloud version. I also did the proposal to use GoAnywhere SFTP. I did a proof of concept and all that. I pushed it through. I was pretty much the one who pushed for GoAnywhere SFTP, but we have been using the MFT service for years and years.

Deploying GoAnywhere MFT was straightforward, especially the cloud version. We encountered minor issues with whitelisting IP addresses during the learning process. The challenging part was transferring our old MFT on-premises jobs to the new cloud version.

There was some confusion with the agent because it functions as two different sides of the same application. The agent side communicates with your network while the other side operates independently. Creating projects in the correct area is crucial. For example, projects needing an internal network connection should be created inside the agent console. The process of switching between the regular console and agent console could be improved, as it's somewhat cumbersome.

The cloud version deployment was simple, though on-premises installation can be more complex.

In terms of maintenance, I don't even have to worry about security certificates anymore. Previously, I had to update the security certificates on the on-prem servers, but that's true for any application. There's almost no management.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for GoAnywhere MFT seems reasonable when compared to other similar services, especially cloud services. Azure is significantly more expensive.

What other advice do I have?

We don't use its connectors at this point. It's pretty much standalone. We are an Oracle cloud customer as well. Most integrations are managed within the cloud because they have their own connectors. Cloud-to-cloud transfers for services like Salesforce don't require routing through our system unless it's for archival purposes.

It's an excellent product. I would recommend it. I would rate GoAnywhere MFT a nine out of ten. The cloud version is relatively new to everyone, and there were instances where the support team was going through their own learning process. However, they handled everything professionally. The pace of technology advancement is rapid, but they maintain excellent service.

Consistent performance and secure daily transfers

  • May 06, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like GoAnywhere MFT the most for being very reliable for regular file transfers. We literally run it many times a day and it’s always been the same. I also like that recurring timed transfers are possible, and that has been helpful to meet tight vendor deadlines. We’ve also integrated it with our accounting tool such that reports are pushed automatically, and everything is kept on track. Now it’s as good of a part of our daily workflow as any we’ve ever had.
What do you dislike about the product?
However, one downside is that debugging takes so long when a job fails. The error messages tend to be impercise and it can be like playing a side of guessing as to what, exactly, is the issue. On a number of occasions we’ve had small schedule or config mistakes that have led to delays in a department everywhere. That kind of downtime stacks up fast, especially for processing at the end of the month. A clearer indication on what went wrong when something goes wrong would be a lot more useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Prior to GoAnywhere MFT, staff will usually manually send files to partners and vendors. There was plenty of room for human error, missed steps and honestly quite a bit of burnout from all the repetitive work. Now, without someone babysitting that process, those transfers are now possible. This has helped cuts on mistakes, freed up our team from spending brain power on what our software is programmed for. In times like quarterly close, it has been a huge relief.

Reliable transfer system with detailed file history

  • April 29, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
GoAnywhere MFT is a very nice tool that takes out the mess when you have to share sensitive files. Finances reports and contracts going back and forward between clients and our intenal teams, and having log history is a big win. It has put an end to confusion as to whether a file has been delivered or not. Everything will flow naturally with it running alongside our document solution. My biggest confidence when dealing with clients is the clean audit trail.
What do you dislike about the product?
The worst part is that error messages do not help in figuring out what went wrong, and they are worded in a most annoying manner. We have had transfer failures that did not easily fix because the alert wasn’t easy to trace back to the problem. Indeed, that delay can really throw off our timelines, especially in some ways in the afternoons when traffic is at its worst. Now due to this, we are forced to put up extra internal tracking just to fix it in a faster way.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With GoAnywhere MFT, it has become crazy to stay on top of file transfers but we can do it with GoAnywhere MFT. We used to miss deadlines and we no longer emailed files through insecure ways. This has made it more organized for Communication with 3rd parties and Departments. Now our teams use it every day as part of their routine, and it has eliminated the need for emails all day asking whether you have sent it.

Good experience for Go Anywhere MFT

  • April 25, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using GoAnywhere MFT daily for the past four years, and its been a great experience. its really easy to use and doesn't require much maintenance, if you are running it on premises dowtime is minimal. even regular users can figure it out without much guidance because everything is pretty self explanatory. there have beeen very few issues, and whenever something does come up, its usually easy to troubleshoot, the technical support is excellent. integrating it with other systems didn't take much time either, its a reliable and well regarded tool in the managed file transfer space.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, progress customer support does not provide the most helpful responses when we run into issues with application. in many cases, we end up having to figure things ourselves, if you are familar with how the program works, its usually not too hard to solve the problems on your own.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Secure and automated file transfer are a big part of my job they are essential to keeping things running smoothly.

Implements robust encryption and simplifies file transfer processes with impressive integration and automation features

  • April 04, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My use case involves transferring databases into AWS using GoAnywhere MFT, which provides encryption and collaboration with other teammates to see the process and transfer files and related data.

How has it helped my organization?

The documentation provided is sufficient to understand and integrate the solution.

The GoAnywhere MFT agents are deployed locally, and they provide a browser-based interface that makes it easy to configure and schedule file transfers, which is beneficial for automation and workflow management.

Over time, we discovered that the scheduling feature and integration aspects work very effectively.

It has saved considerable time because we didn't need to write extensive custom code to integrate it. Most features were drag and drop, and with its browser-based software interface, it proved to be excellent overall and saved us significant time.

We have used the security features only once or twice, but the security it provides is excellent. The GoFast feature is being used by our tech teams, and they found it very fast and efficient while transferring files and data related to code. It reduces the need for custom code significantly. The VMware virtual environment was capable of connecting with the virtual servers.

What is most valuable?

The encryption feature is very impressive in GoAnywhere MFT, and the encryption provided by the company is much stronger than other file transferring software. The automation feature allows teammates to see and schedule file transfers, and the API integration capabilities are amazing features.

What needs improvement?

A drawback is that it is not as feature-rich compared to its competitor Sterling, which we used before. It has fewer features, though it is more intuitive. This was the compromise we had to make during the transition.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for 1 year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It was very stable compared to other solutions we have used, so I would not complain regarding this.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is highly scalable as the data we had before compared to now has changed significantly during this time. With the scaling of the company, it was absolutely capable of handling all the data and databases.

How are customer service and support?

We have contacted them for issues and bugs. They have their number on their website to call, and they are fast and available all the time. With the live chat feature on the website, they are available almost every time, which is great.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The features we had in Sterling were more, but compared to Sterling, GoAnywhere MFT is more intuitive and our teammates can easily understand it. We don't need to explain and train people to learn about it, as they can read documentation and easily adapt to it, making GoAnywhere MFT better.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment was very easy as the documentation was provided and they had trial packages. Their team helps with the demo, making it easy to deploy with the VMware environment. For fully setting it up and integrating with our database, it took 3 to 4 days.

What about the implementation team?

There were three people involved in the implementation.

What was our ROI?

It has saved a lot of time because we didn't need to write extensive custom code to integrate it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is decent for mid-sized and small-sized companies. It is good for startups or mid-scale companies.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise trying the demo and trials according to your company's needs. You should compare and correlate your experiences. It's important to do a trial and consider the amount of data in your company.

I would also recommend reading their documentation and exploring the resources section on their website, where you can watch tutorials, product videos, and guides.

I would rate GoAnywhere MFT an eight out of ten.

Your the only choice for self-managed MFT solution in Kubernetes

  • March 04, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
it is written in Java, vendor provides official Docker image, many features (processing files, downloading, uploading, processing file content, anti-virus), fast and stable, many plugins for cloud services (we use Azure Data Lake, Sharepoint and Google Cloud Storage, but there are many others), PCI DSS compliant (encrypted folders), easy handling of the attached DB content (backup, migration, etc.) from the UI, HA capabilities. The product very extended capabilities in configuring templates of workflows which can be easily parametrized and reused to setup many integrations using one re-usable template.
What do you dislike about the product?
Deployment in Azure AKS requires some manual steps (DB setup, licensing) which have to be managed manually (during initial setup), the vendor is working on K8S support and helm charts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We managed to setup self-managed, cloud native MFT solution in Azure Kubernetes (AKS) thanks to the product. NO other MFT vendor offers a Docker image and mostly other products require Windows OS to install a product. We configured about ~100 integrations and another 200 are in a queue, so the target will be to process over a million of files daily. We use sftp (pull, push), Azure Data Lake, Google cloud storage and Sharepoint as sources and targets of our integration. We setup templates of one file: puller, sender and processor templates which are re-used in all integrations. We do rename, (un)compress files, use trigger files and some of the files contain PCI data.
