Anything is possible with Tealium AudienceStream

  • March 15, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It kicks off with a bang:
It comes with robust analytical tools and tracking mechanisms right out of the box. They have a responsive and thorough deployment team who are committed to ensuring that it's configured to meet your specific needs right out of the gate, no matter how nuanced.

The solutions are scalable.
I've used Tealium AudienceStream in my previous company as well as my current company. Each company had wildly different use cases, but Tealium handled them both with aplomb. No matter the project, I never have to stop and ask myself whether Tealium offers the functionality. The one time they didn't have a solution out of the box, they built a custom connector for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes a while to understand the difference between some of their products.

There's TiQ, which manages tags.

There's AudienceStream and EventStream, which process user's activity (per your specifications) in real time.

There's AudienceStore and EventStore, which store the data generated from AudienceStream and EventStream as semi-structured JSON data. Without an extract-transform-load (ETL) process, there isn't much you can do with this data. However, you can build one for free using Python. If you want to build an ETL like this, you should do the following in python.

import json
import pandas

Since this is a list of semi-structured json objects, it needs to be restructured before it can be parsed. use this line of code:
data = "[" + data.replace('}', '}, ', data.count('}')-1) + "]"

then you have to get that data to be recognized by python as having a json structure. use this:
json_data = json.loads(data)

then you have to normalize this data. use this code:
df1 = json_normalize(json_data)

There are more steps that must be taken after this point, but that will get you on your way.

However, if your organization doesn't have someone skilled in Python, you will want to purchase AudienceDB and/or EventDB. Those services convert the semi-structured data from audiencestore/eventstore into a table that can be queried using SQL.

So in short, there's nothing I don't love about Tealium. It just requires effort and business logic to maximize your results.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to stitch data about our user's behaviors when generating quotes online to sales that are later made over the phone. Without Tealium, this would not be possible.

AudienceStream is Awesome

  • January 16, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use and the way it has allowed us to connect many disparate data sources to enable more granular segment and audience building.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not being able to publish versions live to the site, we can only save as.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Many siloed sources of data which would cause weeks of dev resources to build pipelines between the systems is not needed anymore. We can do everything we want to connect the sources of data in Audience

Enhances Marketing Campaigns & Analytics

  • January 16, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
TiQ + AS are an easy solution to manage vendor tags, enhance analytics and optimize marketing campaigns. A technical marketing professional can manage it without the need to work through IT or Web teams to implement and test which saves everyone time.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a technical tool that layers on itself. If there is a bug or if a step is not followed exactly right it can be frustrating to resolve without Customer Support. From a marketing perspective, the platform needs the ability to pause components associated with a campaign. Since the tool does have so many layers some campaign components may conflict with each other so a build can get complex.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to take our analytics a step further by layering in our CRM data to create valuable reporting. Additional custom setup needed for analytics or vendors can all be handled through AS. Marketing campaigns are optimized with advertising retargeting and suppression based on key criteria.

Capable and powerful CDP solution

  • January 09, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Tealium AudienceStream is a powerful CDP, which helps brands take giant leaps towards achieving cross channel personalisation, and obtain a single view of customer. I have worked with multiple tag management solutions, and CDP's and Tealium is by far the most effective. The tool is sophisticated and complex, which is both a pro and con, and is able to tackle most conceivable use cases to deliver a great CX. The solution requires a strong strategy and governance model to fully leverage (people & process critical to success)
What do you dislike about the product?
Identity resolution is strong within Tealium, but is limited to deterministic identity matching. I would like to see the opportunity to utilise probablistic models for certain brands I work with. The platform can also be difficult to master, with a steep learning curve to be comfortable - more suited to dev resources than non technical marketers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a data agency in Australia (Venntifact) we have worked with multiple brands embracing CDPs including Tealium. AudienceStream is a fantastic choice for brands that have a strong website proposition, with an authenticated state. Tealium's TiQ (tag management) solution is market leading, and mandates a strong data layer be implemented to standardise web behavioural data. This foundation enables additional channels to be incorporated, building a true omni channel personalisation engine. We have launched email, display and onsite abandon cart (and abandon event) campaigns, and can capture behaviours from any channel to trigger experiences & messaging in any other channel. Very flexible to solve a wide range of use cases, once you understand how to setup and work within the platform.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Review multiple CDP solutions, have a clear set of use cases to solve, and evaluate the vendor based on the technology, support model, and agencies available to support your ramp/scale.

A true silver bullet to our data silos problem

  • December 19, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that I can send any kind of event from the customer journey and it easily becomes available to build new attributes, audiences and campaigns.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was a test environment. Do everything with real life data sometimes is scary. Sometimes is hard to figure out how AudienceStream will stitch a user and we end up with users being joined.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to have the same audience receiving an e-mail, viewing a banner and receiving a call that have the same subject or context.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't make the mistake of comparing it with a DMP, they complement each other. I strongly recommend starting with a CDP and then evolving to using it together with a DMP.

Great product for f

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Tealium solves so many problems from the beginning to end of the marketing process. It captures data from multiple online and offline sources and stitches customer data together across those sources, which helps us find opportunities for marketing to our customers. It then gives us the ability to create audiences off of that data, and push those audiences into different marketing platforms (social, email, website, etc.). Then it gives us ownership of all the data we need to measure how those marketing efforts are performing.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a bit of a learning curve, and getting set up takes some time. Tealium was great through that whole process though, and really helped drive the implementation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had problems personalizing campaigns across multiple marketing channels, and tracking behavior cross-domain to see how our campaigns were performing. With Tealium, we now have more personalization than ever across multiple channels, and have great visibility into customer behavior.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great product, great staff - they really care about their customers' success.

A true platform for customer data in a sea of wannabe "CDPs"

  • December 06, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
When building a new data technology stack for our B2C business, some of our goals included eliminating data silos, reclaiming control and ownership of our data from our ad vendors, learning as much as possible about our customers without being creepy, and being able to craft the best personalized experiences for customers we could.

To accomplish these goals, it seemed a no-brainer that we'd want a platform which collected event-level data from our website and then did cool stuff with it, such as sending it (reliably) to vendors, or aggregating it into visitor profiles so that we could learn about our visitors and take actions on them. We try to hold ourselves to a very high standard in how we treat customers, so we weren't looking for simplistic actions such as, "Show a retargeting ad to everyone!" Instead, we were hoping to apply much more sophisticated rules for real-time decision-making on how to best message and treat our visitors.

I learned there was an entire category of "Customer Data Platforms" and figured it'd be easy to choose one. Nope. We vetted many and were disappointed by nearly all of them, since it turns out most of these platforms are simply email marketing tools or ad vendors who have taken to labeling themselves as "CDPs" in order to ride the latest trend. None of these tools could actually accomplish our goals, and many of them actually seemed to make our data silo problem worse.

Tealium was the exception, and seemed to solve our problems, so we started a year ago. It's been a great experience. We consider them the conductor of our martech orchestra, so to speak. We've achieved our goals via the platform, even though we've still only scratched the surface in some areas. I've also been really impressed with their team--smart, straightforward people. Some of our other vendors may have a cool interface but leave you feeling poorly supported. This has never been the case with Tealium.

Long story short, I recommend them more highly than I'd recommend most any other tool we use.
What do you dislike about the product?
As mentioned above, I view Tealium as having massive potential, so any shortcomings we've had with it have more been a function of our own limited time and resources (we can't immediately implement all the cool features on offer). Good problem to have, I guess.

We once had a certain day's data partially impacted by some system testing on their end, which made it tough to use the data from that particular day. Generally, though, I've never seen Tealium go down or have data unavailable, and their system is solid.

Tealium is a Javascript-based tool, which makes sense but means that I as a non-web developer sometimes get a little confused when implementing our most complicated custom tags. Their team has always helped me promptly without any problems, though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Addressed above. Achieving single source of truth about our website event data, eliminating data silos, implementing all tags and scripts from third-party tools and vendors, aggregated data into visitor profiles, taking cool sophisticated actions on visitors.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't trust the recent wave of companies marketing themselves as CDPs---most are simply messaging or ad platforms with a few added features. Instead, go for a dedicated platform like this.

The very best tag manager out tgere

  • September 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Tealium's ability to simplify the things that the 'free' tag manager can AND can't do. Tealium is by far a leader and a visionary by taking a mundane tag management platform and building it into an engine that is far more powerful than any of the other tracking engines out there.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing I really dislike, it's interface could be updated a bit (I haven't used it for a year so maybe they have).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Better attribution, easier time with data transformation, easy to create data layer, the list just goes on...
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Buy Tealium instead of using the 'free' G product. There are so many ways to use it beyond standard tag management that will make the investment pay dividends by a huge margin.
