Premium monitoring software with lots of customizability and an afordable prize

  • April 15, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Highly customizable monitoring platform with plenty of pre-set sensors and good report and ticketing system. Its API allows ease of integration on any platform needed, and its alert system allows us to heavily automate network procedures.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maps and dashboards need to be done manually and might be a bit lacking. System stability somewhat lacking on high demand installations (but this might be due to being Windows based instead of Linux based).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PRTG gives us visibility on underlying issues our IT and Network might have.

Paessler PRTG offers a highly intuitive interface and powerful monitoring tools. The real-time alerts and customizable dashboards make it easy to keep track of network health and performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
While PRTG is powerful, the initial setup can be a bit complex, especially for users without prior experience. Some advanced features require a learning curve.

Paessler PRTG is helping us solve network visibility and uptime issues by providing real-time monitoring of our infrastructure. It identifies bottlenecks, bandwidth hogs, and potential failures before they become critical, reducing downtime significantly. Customizes ports and receives stable alerts with real-time monitoring

  • December 04, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I am using PRTG Network Monitor just for SNMP monitoring of my network devices.

What is most valuable?

I can customize the port as per my need and the real-time monitoring feature that is already provided to me. The alerting system is very stable, and it's helpful whenever any sensor is down. PRTG notifies me through email. PRTG Network Monitor already provided me with 100 free sensors, which is enough for my network monitoring.

What needs improvement?

PRTG Network Monitor should provide syslog monitoring since it is not available at this time. There are very limited features as compared to other solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with PRTG Network Monitor for four to five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I didn't see any downtime with PRTG Network Monitor.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate scalability as nine out of ten. PRTG Network Monitor has the ability to scale and add new devices.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is available on the web. Tutorials are available so I can manage any issue with PRTG Network Monitor easily.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I was using Firepower from Cisco, but I changed to Fortinet due to the high cost of Firepower. Fortinet provides me with cheaper options compared to Cisco.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple. I am using it on my Hyper-V machine, so it's very simple to deploy PRTG Network Monitor.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The prices are very high for PRTG Network Monitor. That's why I'm using the free100 sensor license.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I am using SolarWind's Kiwi for monitoring rollouts.

What other advice do I have?

I rate PRTG Network Monitor overall as eight out of ten. I highly recommend it.

Efficiently monitor networks across regions with seamless setup and robust feature set

  • November 20, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I have a consulting role and my customer is trying to choose between PRTG Network Monitor and other solutions. I already have PRTG as an option, so they can have a third option.

What is most valuable?

PRTG Network Monitor is easy to set up. Within a few minutes, it is operational. It is an all-in-one monitoring solution without extra costs. For example, we set it up for an insurance company with branches across Africa. We are able to monitor from Lagos without installing anything in the branches, using the agentless feature. We just put in the IP address and the parameter, and we monitor from those ends.

Additionally, all the sensors are very useful. Most people are interested in the bandwidth monitoring sensor to see what bandwidth the users are consuming. The pricing is affordable compared to SolarWinds.

What needs improvement?

PRTG Network Monitor needs to enhance network performance monitoring. Moving towards observability, similar to what Datadog offers, could be beneficial. Specifically, they need to improve application performance monitoring, error tracing mechanisms, and log management. Log management is not detailed enough unless exported to Syslog or other tools.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been familiar with this product for five to eight years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor scales easily. If scaling up is needed, you just move to the next band, adding about 50% of additional cost.

On a scale of one to ten, scalability is rated as 9.5.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good. The setup process is well-documented, making it easy to deploy. However, unlike SolarWinds, which requires specialized training due to its complexity, PRTG's process is more straightforward.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and easy to configure. All the necessary instructions for setup are provided.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

PRTG comes in different bands: there are options with 500, 1500, 2500, and so on. Pricing is by the number of devices, not by sensor.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend PRTG Network Monitor, especially if the customer is cost-conscious. However, if the network to be monitored is extensive, either PRTG or SolarWinds could be recommended.

Overall, I rate PRTG as nine or 9.5 out of ten.

Servers and Network Performance Monitoring Tool

  • November 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to configure sensors, add multiple platforms for monitoring.
Handy tool for network and system admins
What do you dislike about the product?
Licensing is based on sensors not appliance, some time one server or network appliance take many sensor licences which is not good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As mentioned, I am proactively getting the updates of any failure or down time using this application.

It also helps comparing the behavioural based changes in the systems and networks.

Detects suden changes but significant pricing concerns affect the effectiveness of network traffic troubleshooting

  • October 29, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use PRTG Network Monitor for monitoring traffic on interfaces and the behavior of network traffic. If there are sudden changes in traffic or any configuration issues, we can sort them out using PRTG. It's very helpful for troubleshooting and monitoring traffic utilization on our interfaces.

How has it helped my organization?

Using PRTG Network Monitor helps us in understanding traffic flows and assists in troubleshooting, providing valuable insight into the network traffic and utilization.

What is most valuable?

Every monitoring session features similar capabilities. PRTG Network Monitor shows the flow of traffic on interfaces and devices, which is very helpful for troubleshooting traffic utilization.

What needs improvement?

The technical support from PRTG needs significant improvement. The support team should be more accessible when customers log a complaint, and the process of accessing support should be easier for end users.

Additionally, the cost has increased from $4,000 to $99,000 without any change in features, which is unacceptable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have almost 12 years of experience working with PRTG Network Monitor.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of PRTG Network Monitor as one out of ten due to their support and pricing issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of PRTG Network Monitor as high. It is easy to manage and has good scalability features.

How are customer service and support?

The support is zero. I have repeatedly reached out for help with no success; they never responded to my emails or calls. In contrast, SolarWinds provided immediate support when I had issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with SolarWinds, which immediately provides solutions and responds quickly to complaints. They handle situations more effectively.

How was the initial setup?

PRTG is a simple network monitoring tool; it is straightforward and easy to set up, even for non-technical users. However, extracting the code and triggering emails was challenging without support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is harshly increased, from $4,000 last year to $99,000 now, with no additional features added. This is unbearable.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have been exploring SolarWinds and Zabbix as alternatives due to the issues faced with the rising costs and poor support of PRTG Network Monitor.

What other advice do I have?

After-sales services are crucial in the corporate sector. Even with high pricing, if a company does not provide full support, it will be unsuccessful. Support is essential.
