The Best Operating System for Application Development.

  • October 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
For Software development, this is the best platform any developer can use, any developer enjoys the bash command line. It's open-source and for most of the software that I use, I do not need to purchase any product key. It is secure, I do not need an antivirus to secure my data. It can run on any hardware no matter how old it is. You are able to run it even without installing it. Ubuntu also supports windows tiling. You are able to update ubuntu even without restarting.
What do you dislike about the product?
For nongeeks this operating system can be a bit challenging since most activities you do, are achieved with the terminal and always asking for root access which can be a hard spot for the majority of people who are not tech-savvy. For graphic designers, this is a hard spot for them, one ubuntu it is really hard to install graphic drivers. The best softwares that are best for graphic design are not available in ubuntu. It is not eye catching like other operating system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using ubuntu to develop and design my web applications and websites.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Most users since day one they started using a computer, they are always familiar with windows, maybe ubuntu can try to reach that audience, by coming up with a software that takes care of the needs of windows, nontech people.

User friendly Linux based operating system.

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu's different "flavours" allow you to personalise your desktop experience to what you'll be primarily using it for.Ubuntu Studio is good for musicians and graphical artists, and has a lot of the standard tools you need pre-installed.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's still Linux, and that means it can be daunting to someone who isn't experienced with that operating system. That being said, more and more of the operating system just works out of the box these days, so it's not as sharp a learning curve as it once was.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've recorded a lot of music using the Ardour DAW. Ubuntu studio allows me to run my firewire audio interface at around 6ms latency so it's basically able to do live processing. That really helps me write and create and hear what I'm doing in realtime.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Download the Studio flavour if you're wanting to write music it's a must.

What do you like best about the product?
It's a free operating system either for personal or enterprise computing. It compete against windows and macos by providing complete computing experience, the desktop edition comes with office productivity and it free of cost. In LTS version updating is very easy and straightforward, superfast and opensource, it offers an accesible UI and user feels comfortable navigating the interface with similar experience to what they are familiar with.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has limited functionality, many software and hardware are not compatible with it. Another Linux distro that are better than Ubuntu like Debian. Graphics support is a challenging task.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
the support of community and developers, it gets frequently updated and long term support reduces administrative overhead. It has LTS version is best and os kernel is solid only gets restarted when kernl patches are needed. higher dpi monitor is poor. older wifi driver are not reliable.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
easy to use and best for developers and engineers

Ubuntu one of the best open source operating system I am using

  • October 21, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
the most important thing about Ubuntu is it's using the Linux kernel. I am a big fan of open source technologies and ubuntu is providing that. I am able to use lots of alternatives to proprietary software on Linux. Graphical User Interface is also awesome.
What do you dislike about the product?
Ubuntu is providing good support for firewalls which is terminal-based such as iptables and UFW. It will be better if they will provide a GUI based firewall which will be very easy to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using ubuntu to demonstrate the use of server solutions such as web server apache2, FTP server that is vsftpd to students as educator. I am using lots of other solutions on ubuntu such as WPS for documentation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If You are switching from the windows operating system to Linux operating system then ubuntu is the best os to start with. The graphical User Interface is very good. Should give a try.

Awesome Powerful OS

  • October 21, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Customizabilty and ease of use is what it makes it stands out. Its developer environment is awesome and I still keep on discovering new things every now and then .
What do you dislike about the product?
Its slow in bringing updates as compare to Windows which happens quite often.
GUI can be improved more and there should be a standard template so that few applications comes installed by default.
Sometime it gets a bit hard to find softwares to work with it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was using it my main OS and running server on it. I virtualize few instances of OS onto a single machine.
I consider to be a good alternative to Windows and love that you can customize everything.
