What do you like best about the product?
GitLab offers a variety of features for importing and exporting certain projects to anywhere. Also, I prefer it’s ability to create task panels that enables me to divide all the workload into different sections and also these panels can be named and assign people as well in teamwork. Best feature of this application is its ability to create repository, also to set certain permissions is making my experience more valuable on it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Each feature of GitLab is so much intuitive and effective to organize tasks at a good range. There is nothing to be worried about in this application every feature is enough useful to get all the updates from any sort of project from anywhere in the world. GitLab has no drawbacks that are significant only sometimes its working becomes slow but it can be due to overload on the system server that makes it a bit laggy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gitlab is serving me in a very good way as it completely tracks my projects from each and every aspect and make it easier for me to keep check and balance. I like the user interface of this product that keeps my work in an ongoing process and also it’s so much easy to understand. Transition of this application is so much smooth and always interactive enough to meet my needs. Also for me the best thing about it is it’s free of cost availability that allows me to use it without spending any penny.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Indeed a good product to be suggested in case of maintaining group works and also to share them with teammates how they should work or not. Everything is so much fascinating in it that perfectly meets my desire of group work. So for me it’s a good product to use in terms of analysing all the tasks that are assigned in order to meet deadlines.

What do you like best about the product?
Support for issue boards, for example Done, doing, and to-do boards to stay on track
What do you dislike about the product?
Strange way of archiving products developed in a group
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Version control; if we break our code we roll back to the previous version without any issues

The best tool to control projects

  • August 28, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It supports multiple repositories, security and low cost or even though free access for individuals. Gitlab is the best on-premise solution for managing a code base with the added benefit of having a complete CI pipeline with the code. I can interact with another user and I learned a lot using this.
What do you dislike about the product?
I did not like the way this utility displays the diff between 2 versions that we are a branch office and needed to contact the corporation to modify some firewall and network settings.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Git was not an option because I would not publish the source code to the world, but only to the target audience. We track changes to our source repositories, requiring merge requests and code review. Therefore, we use most resources to create open source solutions using GitLab to house source code.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Easy to checkout but some times branch switch problems for release purpose

GitLab is the powerhouse for Development

  • July 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Gitlab has super powerful features to customize the workflow for development teams in companies. The build pipelines are one of the coolest things that they offer
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the interface feels slightly slow, and the UI is not as snazzy as some of the competition.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Better PRs, with mroe fine grained control
Phenomenal self hosted build pipelines (on our own AWS instances)
Container registry

Essential tool for my team and business

  • July 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Gitlab's builtin CI is great for automated testing and deployment of our projects. We use the task board to help manage the backlog. The whole tool supports gitflow really well with references to tasks, builds, and PRs all linked together making it easy to see the changes.

The "automatic merge" feature of a Pull Request once the build has passed is really handy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, it's hard to find anything I really dislike about Gitlab.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Every once and a while our builds are slow to start but we are using their shared (free) build runners so it's easy to understand.

What do you like best about the product?
Supports multiple repositories, granular security, and low-cost or free access for individuals. Gitlab is the best on-premise solution for managing a codebase with the added advantage of having a complete CI pipeline with the code. I can interact with another user and have learned a lot.
What do you dislike about the product?
I didn't like the way this utility displays the diff between 2 versions as we are a branch and needed to contact the corporation to modify some firewall and network settings. - It's buggy, sometimes the file viewer is not loading - It would be done to introduce Gerrit as a more advanced review system - Sometimes the Gitlab CI runners crash - It's quite slow on good internet, loading bars everywhere
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GitHub was not an option because I would not publish the source code to the world, but only to the target audience. We control changes in our source code repositories by requiring merge requests and code review. Therefore, we use most of the features to create open-source solutions using GitLab to host the source code.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
- Use Gitlab CI, your very powerful tool - Install more plugins Definitely, continue to use GitHub as well Solid choice

What do you like best about the product?
As someone who isn't sitting in a technical role- this interface still benefits me! I'm able to look into the teams work and see how the projects are progressing. This has a direct impact on the progress of our business, the happiness of our customers, the growth of our team, and the success of our small company.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've not found anything to be negative about GitLab- anytime I have a question about a certain feature/tag/note I can easily find my answer- or my team is already well aware of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There is a fine line between having a dev manage their own tasks and enabling them to get the tasks done- GitLabs allows that. Others can submit issues, and all can track what they need.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Considering the vast features and benefits to using GitLabs- I'd be interesting in knowing WHY you wouldn't want to use a tool thats been thought out to the nth degree, and yet simplified in such a way that ease of use is assumed.

CICD In a box - for free .... whats not to like?

  • May 22, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
No need to build and maintain a jenkins instance, a spinnaker instance, a k8s cluster, a git repo, an issue tracker, monitoring solution etc etc etc and glue them all together. Its all there in one "yum install gitlab-ce"
What do you dislike about the product?
They are a little obsessed with kubernetes to the detriment of what they could also do in the public / private cloud VM spaces, configuration management etc
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The code is literally traceable from the original issue, through its development, how its tests went and how it is running in production without ever leaving the interface or creating all kinds of integrations between different products

Intuitive interface to see your code

  • April 04, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The thing I like most about GitLab is the find file feature. If you know the name of any file, you can type just a piece of it and it will show you all files and their paths with that piece of search text. I also really like that you can highlight a line, copy the link and send it to someone. When they open the link, it will bring them to the selected line. I also think the colors used to display the code make it much more readable. Finally, I really like how it shows you the entire history of the file throughout time.
What do you dislike about the product?
The think I like the least about GitLab is the overall search feature. It rarely works and cannot find searched text very easily. When you search for some text, it usually just says "not found". This is different from the overall find file feature, which works great. It doesn't seem to be able to cross search repositories.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GitLab allows our team to see the current version of code that is in our master repository. It also lets us see the entire commit history on any file. We also use GitLab for version control and recovery of code. We use it to merge branches of individual work into the code base.
