Manages SSL load balancing and offload efficiently while providing excellent support

  • February 18, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the product for our web services across multiple web farms. It manages SSL load balancing and SSL offload, meaning SSL management is handled at the load balancing level. Additionally, we use it for SSL renewal and management, which simplifies the process rather than managing each individual server or farm.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the support from the engineering team. They quickly resolved a VLAN issue that other vendors could not. The product allows us to manage multiple networks and VLANs into a single box and add numerous web services and farms efficiently. The SSL management and integration capabilities are also standout features.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see more educational and training sessions. Other OEMs offer free courses and hands-on labs on new technologies and features, which we find useful. The WAF solution requires more training.

Additional educational components like videos would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it since 2016.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is 100% stable. We've never faced downtime, even during peak transaction hours. It manages SSL offloading and compressions efficiently, without over-utilization.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is highly scalable. It handles peak loads and thousands of concurrent connections without exceeding 10% utilization. It's robust and ensures efficient compression.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are excellent. I would rate them ten out of ten. We never face support issues, and their team resolves any critical issues quickly once they are involved.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used F5 and Array solutions. However, we switched to Radware based on market research, Gartner reports, and cost-effectiveness. Radware offered optimal performance at a better price point.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup took approximately fifteen days. We conducted POCs, unit testing, and created farms for UAT testing before going live. Radware personnel were on-site, which facilitated face-to-face communication and training during deployment.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment involved two people from our side and one from Radware, making it a three-person team.

What was our ROI?

The product offers great return on investment. Since 2016, we have already gone through a lifecycle and are procuring another product, suggesting that our investments are well justified.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of the Radware solution is reasonable and stable. I don't have detailed pricing information, but it is considered optimal for the performance provided.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated F5 and Array before opting for Radware.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend having support directly from Radware, not through SI channels, as they handle multiple OEMs and might lack in-depth knowledge about each. Additionally, having available knowledge bases or resources for troubleshooting would be beneficial.

I would rate the overall solution ten out of ten.

Good load balancing with round-robin distribution and high availability

  • July 10, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We have six to seven servers behind the scenes and a single IP. We use this product as a server load balancer.

How has it helped my organization?

The delivery has become faster. The user experience has improved.

What is most valuable?

The round-robin distribution of the load is quite useful. It's fantastic. We've never faced any issues.

The load balancing technology has improved our service performance.

We are using the server load balancing and then for Internet load balancing. We have two ISPs in my company which provide the internet. I am using 100 Mbps on one, 100 Mbps on the other. If one is running at 80%, the other is running 60%, I'm getting almost 150%. So instead of using a single link, I'm able to use both.

Since business performance is critical, we like that we can take advantage of high availability.

Since implementing the solution, the performance has increased in my stores. It's helped us serve customers better and faster by at least 25%.

I've seen a 10% improvement in time to value.

What needs improvement?

Customer support could be better. The resolution time could be faster.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for around six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a very stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have around 400 people using the solution. The scalability is good. I started with four machines and I've since added to them. It's quite scalable. I'd rate the scalability nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The support is very good. However, there's always some improvement possible.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution.

How was the initial setup?

We were able to implement the solution within one month. We did not receive any training from Radware.

There is no maintenance needed after deployment. We just have to renew the subscription.

What about the implementation team?

Our team managed the installation internally.

What was our ROI?

We have witnessed an ROI, however, I do not have any specific KPIs. We have maybe saved 10% to 15% of our time.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We tend to choose solutions based on the Gartner Quadrant. It fits into that while also being cost-effective.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a customer and end-user.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten. I'd recommend the solution to others.

Gives us highly available servers without service interruptions, and timely support when needed

  • August 09, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use it for balancing all of our services and our servers.

How has it helped my organization?

It saves us a lot of work in terms of management since it has tasks already defined automatically. That enables us to better administer our services. It is very dynamic and easy to administer.

Another benefit of using Alteon is the support that Radware, as a company, provides. They are very fast and that is key because the availability of our exposed services is always very important to us.

We realized these benefits immediately, with highly available servers without service interruptions. We have two servers, which, thanks to the virtual services that Alteon has, can be quickly balanced. Our services are always up. The time-to-value was almost immediate. The high availability of services helps avoid losses and any instability that might result in intermittent services.

We have high availability for both our servers and services, thanks to the virtual service that Alteon manages. We have two Alteon teams internally, so if one data center suddenly has a problem, the other data center still functions. That means we have an immediate solution. When one is not there, the other immediately takes control.

We go to the analytics, to the graphs and to the logs, where we can identify problems and failures. We have it configured to send us notifications and alerts when a service is slow or does not respond for some time. With the alerts and the logs, we are able to further verify the graph of the services and their states of health. That helps us a lot to quickly find out if we have a problem and find solutions. We can save 80 percent of the time it used to take to investigate a case because it makes it much easier and simpler for us to find an issue.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect of Alteon is the availability it provides for our services. The availability of services is very important for any company, and especially for us since we are a port with many internet-facing services.

In addition, the solution is very dynamic and easy to manage.

Another excellent feature is the integrated application protection. It is an excellent product with many features that serve to protect our company. The services we provide are of vital importance, so their availability and protection with Alteon are truly important.

What needs improvement?

It is a fairly complete service and it is difficult for me to think of what can be improved. A feature that I would like to see included in the next version might be better analysis when working with crypt issues. Right now, it is very manual; you load it into Alteon and it runs. It would be interesting to see a more dynamic process.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Radware Alteon for about six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Alteon is very stable. The equipment has been working for six years. We have a refresh scheduled and we have the new equipment here, but we have not yet made the change. Our old equipment continues to work perfectly. The change is being made because of the company's policy: every five years, all the equipment must be renewed.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a very scalable solution. We always have plans to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

Their technical support is an excellent service. They answer very quickly and you always have their support. Anytime we suddenly have an issue that we don't understand, we go to them and they provide excellent service and technical support. Depending on the urgency of the case, they call or write to you. We do not have any complaints.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This is our first load-balancing platform.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment is private. We have the Alteon equipment onsite in two physical data centers.

The complexity of the deployment depends on how many and what types of services there are, but it was simple because of the accompaniment and support we had from Radware. Radware itself came in and installed the service; they gave us tutorials too, so it was very simple.

You need to consider what your services are and what you are going to exhibit. It is important to have a work plan. We divided our implementation into three days. On the first day, equipment was installed, on the second day it was configured, and the third day was a day of monitoring.

Becoming familiar with Alteon was very easy. We did the training for a week, but we quickly became familiar with the platform. If you're thinking about Alteon but concerned about the learning curve, Alteon is very dynamic and easy to learn. In addition, Radware's team does not leave you alone. Their technical team is always there to support you on any questions you may have.

Soon we will renew our equipment; we have already bought and received it. And we will go through the same process again, installing, configuring, and monitoring on the third day. It is very fast.

There is no maintenance. The platform works pretty well on its own. It has reduced our maintenance overhead by just about 100 percent because we do not have maintenance related to Alteon.

What about the implementation team?

The people from Radware were the ones who implemented it. On our side, there were two people handling the implementation, the administrator and an analyst.

What was our ROI?

On the financial side, my understanding is that there has been a return on investment. If we did not have Alteon for service availability, our services could be affected, and, in the end, that would create financial issues.

In the technical area, the return on investment is the availability of our services. It is very important that our availability is optimal for both our internal and external clients. That is the greatest return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a three-year contract with Radware. It is beneficial to have a longer-term contract because you can obtain more discounts. It seems to be a much cheaper alternative.

We use their Gel Elastic License (GEL). It allows us to integrate what we need. With this licensing model, we have a lower cost for using Alteon in our company. Radware does not force us to use everything but only what we really need for our operations. That's why it is quite good. We have saved about 15 percent using the Gel Elastic License, which is actually quite a lot.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate many products since the provider that advises us on cybersecurity issues was the one who recommended that we choose Radware. We saw the benefits and it was chosen. We did not do much comparison with other solutions because we felt very confident in our provider's reasoning. Our provider, E-Global, who suggested Radware to us, gave us complete confidence in Radware.

What other advice do I have?

Don't think about it too much. It's an excellent solution and it's quite reliable.

The most important lesson I have learned by using Alteon is that, thanks to these certified solutions, we can have our services available and we are able to maintain our good name as a company and our reputation in the market.

Helps our system work at optimal capacity, and security features are elastic and adaptable

  • July 26, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Alteon for application load balancing, channel balancing, and high availability of applications through LDT in the cloud.

How has it helped my organization?

Radware has helped us to solve problems by providing optimal capacity.

It has also helped with the issue of migration to IPV6, thanks to its features and the way it is integrated into the network.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution is its stability. During the time that I have been using it, it has not undergone a service failure. In a large infrastructure like ours, there are always failures. But in our case, those failures are usually related to third parties and never due to Alteon Radware.

And with the integrated application protection, we have not suffered from attacks anymore.

Radware's visualization tool, Vision, also provides a lot of information in case of failures. It has helped us to understand very complex problems in one or two hours. It is very agile.

At the security level, it also contributes a lot. It has many security features and is very elastic and adaptable. If, for example, you have in-house security implemented, or you want to migrate it to the public or private cloud, it's very easy to change the licensing and integrate it.

What needs improvement?

I would like the solution to display and help visualize the reference map more easily. I would also like to better understand where queries come from and know which users are consulting the application, along with which app.

I would also like the next version of Alteon to include better traffic monitoring within the Vision feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Radware Alteon for about eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far, we have not had any network outages. The stability is quite good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is possible that we will increase the use of Radware in our company. It depends on what our clients require. Right now, we are implementing new channels so there is a high possibility that we will increase our use of the solution.

How are customer service and support?

One of the benefits of using Radware is the support. If we have any doubt or a failure that we need to consult about with specialized support, the attention is immediate. They also answer in Spanish, which is the language we operate in. Sometimes, when support is in English, it is difficult for us to understand answers. Spanish language support obviously facilitates the resolution of problems.

Overall, their support is very good and very agile. It is very specialized and efficient. They have helped us resolve issues very quickly.

How was the initial setup?

Our deployment model is private cloud and we have Alteon set up in different locations. The initial deployment was simple. The migration was done without affecting our services and the implementation took about 15 days.

As we already had hardware services, we migrated the services to the backup, the main service was installed and, when it was established, the services were migrated and, thus, the backup was also migrated.

The monitoring team simply informs us of the health status of the equipment. If a change is reported in the firmware version, a change that affects us, we do an update. Otherwise, there is not much maintenance. Right now, we only have three people who work with Alteon.

What about the implementation team?

We used Radware Professional Services. The deployment involved the Radware engineer and one person from our company's technical team.

We received training from Radware on how to use Alteon, but our team has been using Radware for eight years and we had previous experience. If someone is considering switching to Alteon but is concerned about the learning curve, Radware has a free training portal where it explains things very well. That could decrease the learning curve very quickly.

What was our ROI?

We see ROI in the reliability and in the support to which we can turn in case of failures.

Not only have we seen time to value from the solution, but I have seen information about events on Radware's social networks where they show how they protect environments in real-time attack situations. They talk about cyber attacks that hackers attempted in Ukraine. Radware is very immersed in that situation and that shows they are at a very high level. Ever since we implemented this protection solution, we have not seen the anomalies that occurred before.

From the moment we started to work with Radware, we understood that it is a high-level platform.

What other advice do I have?

Right now we use a private cloud in data centers. An internet provider maintains our protection with an antivirus shield. We are evaluating the possibility of using Radware to protect public cloud services, such as AWS and Azure.

My advice is that it is necessary to add Radware's Vision solution for greater visibility into what is happening in the system. Also, increase the traffic lock, which is a feature that brings good visibility into all the traffic on the network.

With Radware, I have learned the importance of knowing the characteristics of your product very well and using them in the best possible way.

Provides better protection for our web applications by delaying access to the interface and limiting access to specific web applications

  • April 27, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We use Radware Alteon for data protection and security compliance.

How has it helped my organization?

Radware Alteon's integrated application protection is a good choice. It provides better protection for our web applications by delaying access to the interface and limiting access to specific web applications. This centralized and limited access makes it easier to manage our web applications, even if we have multiple users or customers. We have also provided suggestions for a release that includes the customer's recommended modifications and edits. This release is sufficient for cloud-based applications.

Radware Alteon's out-of-the-box integration feature is good.

The automation script libraries for each orchestrator are of good quality. Our team can apply the updates and configure them.

Radware Alteon has improved our organization by providing an interface for connecting 10 Gigabit Ethernet transceivers. This allowed us to increase our network bandwidth and improve the performance of our applications.

Radware Alteon Analytics saved us around 15 percent of the time troubleshooting. The dashboard provides a helpful overview of active alerts and warnings, and we can easily investigate and add new ones as needed. This has made it much easier to identify and resolve issues quickly.

What is most valuable?

The UI is user-friendly.

The cloud features are valuable.

What needs improvement?

The interface implementation can be improved. If any features of the current version need to be upgraded, such as those related to net flow, we need to reboot the system properly. We also need to be able to upgrade any Radware updates related to the version.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Radware Alteon for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Radware Alteon is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Radware Alteon is scalable. The solution is deployed in multiple mobile locations with over 1,000 users.

How are customer service and support?

Radware Alteon's technical support is excellent.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. The deployment took two days and two people to complete. We received training from the Radware team.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of Radware Alteon is mid-ranged.

The GEL licensing is flexible. The GEL license has helped save us around 25 percent.

What other advice do I have?

I give Radware Alteon a ten out of ten.

We have seen time to value especially around the data security and compliance of Radware Alteon. We saw time to value after one and a half weeks of implementing Radware Alteon.

Radware Alteon is a scalable and available application delivery controller that can be used by organizations of all sizes. It offers a wide range of features, including automation, optimization, and migration from older to newer versions.

Radware Alteon is easy for organizations to switch to because it has training portals that provide all the necessary information, which minimizes the learning curve.

The maintenance is completed on a quarterly basis by the vendor.

I recommend Radware Alteon, but it is always a good idea to do a proof of concept before switching solutions.
