Seamless Setup but Needs Better High-Volume Stability

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate the seamless transition we experienced while setting up SearchStax. Cloning over our collections and repointing our custom application to the provided endpoints was straightforward and worked seamlessly, saving us time and effort. The primary advantage is outsourcing the administration of our Solr cluster, which alleviates the burden of managing something that isn’t our core competency. Additionally, the support from SearchStax has been invaluable. Whenever we face challenges with our collections or cluster, knowing we can reach out to experts who are more knowledgeable than us provides peace of mind and ensures smooth operations. This external expertise greatly supports our team, allowing us to focus on our main business objectives.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am challenged by SearchStax's performance at high volumes, where our collection often becomes unstable. We struggled for a couple of years to maintain stability in the cluster during our highest usage, which was a significant issue. Additionally, there was a lack of expertise on our part, which made it difficult to manage those high-volume situations effectively.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SearchStax allows me to avoid managing our Solr cluster, saving time and resources on areas outside our core competencies. It provides expert support when needed, simplifying management and enhancing stability, though high-volume stability remains a challenge.

What do you like best about the product?
SearchStax platform is easy to use and we were able to integrate it quickly into our stack. Additionally, SearchStax achieves every line item on the list of goals we had for a search tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
Downside is that it's another third party product that requires developer integration.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Native search in our CMS was not as advanced enough for site search and a people directory search on our site at the time of launch in fall of 2022

What do you like best about the product?
Reliability is crucial for us. As a FTSE100 retail company operating across the UK and Europe, we depend significantly on search functionality. SearchStax Solr solutions have consistently remained online and accessible, which has made them a dependable partner within the Howdens ecosystem.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only challenge I've encountered is not having the opportunity to meet the SearchStax team in person, since they are located in the US. However, even with their international location, their support has been outstanding and consistently available, regardless of the time difference between the UK and the US.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Search is crucial for us, as we depend on having all our products accurately indexed and easily accessible. With our constant introduction of new products to the market, it's essential that our indexing and search solution is able to keep pace with our ongoing updates.

Efficient Synonym Management, But Deployment Could Improve

What do you like best about the product?
I like the feature to add synonyms easily via the UI. I also like the feature to preview the cards. These features are easy to manage, and my client can access the dashboard to manage them.
What do you dislike about the product?
For sure SearchStax needs a better way to deploy changes from one environment to the other. Currently, we need to take notes of the changes and replicate when we have tested and are ready. If something like this is not easy to implement, at least SearchStax could have revisions so we can check what was done without manually taking notes. Additionally, the performance needs to improve. From Drupal to the API it can take up to 5 minutes to display the new node which can be frustrating and also slow down development. Having more flexibility to define the result cards would be better too. We tried to customize but using Mustache wasn't that easy or flexible too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SearchStax to power Solr searches for various content like Scholarships and News. It simplifies managing synonyms through an easy UI, allowing clients to manage them independently, enhancing search experience.

What do you like best about the product?
SearchStax Site Search stands out for its user-friendly design. The intuitive interface makes it easy for non-technical users, digital marketers, and agencies to navigate and manage. What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about SearchStax is that it makes search management straightforward. Our IT team no longer has to maintain Solr, and my team can adjust the search experience without relying on developers. We can update results, run promotions, and review search analytics quickly, which helps us respond to user needs more efficiently.
What do you dislike about the product?
There’s a bit of a learning curve in figuring out how different tweaks affect the search results, but once you get familiar with it, the process becomes much smoother.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SearchStax enables a faster, more relevant search experience while removing the need for our IT team to manage Solr. My team can adjust the search experience without involving developers, which makes it easier to keep content and results aligned with user needs. What do you like best about the product?
SearchStax has been a really strong addition to our digital infrastructure, particularly in improving the on site search experience across PLNU. SearchStax provides a noticeable upgrade over other default CMS search tools, allowing for more relevant, accurate, and user friendly results.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI for backend configuration and analytics aren't always intuitive. While the tool offers great flexibility, it can take time to understand how to fully leverage features like relevance tuning or custom ranking logic.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I would say the search capabilities and overall support have also made a real difference. Students searching for “dorms” can be directed to “Residential Life,” and results for majors or faculty are more logically grouped. This helps create a smoother and more intuitive experience for users.

What do you like best about the product?
As we approach the one-year milestone of our Searchstax implementation, we've had time to reflect on just how transformative the platform has been - not just in terms of enhancing search, but in how it’s empowered our broader digital strategy. What started as a quest for better relevance and control over search results has evolved into something much more dynamic. The most powerful part of Searchstax is that search isn’t static - it’s fluid. And that fluidity has enabled us to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

One of the standout strengths of the platform has been its robust API capabilities. We’ve been able to integrate Searchstax deeply into our ecosystem, going far beyond the standard out-of-the-box implementation. In fact, one of our most exciting innovations this year has been incorporating Searchstax directly into our AI-powered chatbot experience. Through the API, we’ve enabled the bot to pull live search results, refining context based on user input, and provide conversational responses that feel genuinely useful - all driven by real-time, query-aware search intelligence.

The Searchstax APIs have been remarkably flexible and developer-friendly, allowing us to query the index, apply custom filters, and handle facets dynamically within the chatbot framework. But beyond the technical wins, what we’ve really embraced is the mindset shift. With Searchstax, we’re not limited to periodic search updates - we’re living in a continuous improvement loop. As our content evolves, as user behavior shifts, and as our chatbot grows smarter, we’re able to fine-tune the underlying search mechanics quickly and confidently.
What do you dislike about the product?
One area that initially posed some friction was the user interface. In earlier versions, the GUI felt a bit clunky and less intuitive for non-technical users, which sometimes slowed down configuration and onboarding. However, to Searchstax’s credit, the platform has since undergone a noticeable transformation. The new UI is far more streamlined, responsive, and user-friendly - a reflection of their clear investment in product usability.

Searchstax has been very responsive to feedback, especially the critical kind. Any time we've raised concerns, whether it was about usability, feature limitations, or performance questions, their team has been quick to engage, listen, and act. In some cases, we've even seen fixes or improvements rolled out within hours or days of our input. That kind of agility and willingness to evolve based on real user experiences speaks volumes about their commitment to the platform - and to their customers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SearchStax is solving critical challenges around search relevance, scalability, and cross-domain integration - all of which have had a meaningful impact on our user experience. Prior to implementation, we faced difficulties delivering consistent, high-quality search across multiple web properties. Managing search configurations separately for each domain was inefficient and limited our ability to optimize holistically. SearchStax gave us a unified, flexible platform that allows us to manage and fine-tune search behavior across multiple domains from a central interface, streamlining oversight and drastically improving consistency.

Additionally, the platform's powerful APIs enabled us to go beyond traditional search use cases - most notably by integrating directly with our AI-powered chatbot, which now delivers contextual, real-time search responses across all supported domains. We’ve also seen steady platform evolution, from major UI improvements to a high level of responsiveness from their support team when we’ve provided feedback. What makes SearchStax truly stand out is its adaptability - we’re not locked into a rigid solution. Instead, we have a platform that continues to grow with us, turning search into an intelligent, scalable, and dynamic part of our digital strategy.

What do you like best about the product?
Search indexing for content management system like Sitecore is very efficient and reliable, no issue and no management needed since we engaged and integrated.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing we can thinking about or experienced that we wouldn't like SearchStax.

SearchStax manages our Sitecore CMS search indexing and enable CMS efficiency and website performance.
