Flexible, Extensible, and Reliable - Great solution for a Streaming Server
What do you like best about the product?
Some of Wowza's aspects that I find crucial are flexibility, extensibility and reliability. I've been using Wowza for over a decade on many different projects, across many industries. I was always able to adjust it to suite my needs through either the wide choice of preexisting functionalities, or through writing custom modules. Whenever I faced a problem, I was able to resolve it either through the community forums or with the help of support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Wowza is very powerful and extensible, but that comes at the price of the server running "a bit heavy". But honestly, I rarely found this to be a big problem. If you want something super-optimized, without support for many features you possibly don't need, then something else might be a better choice.
The same is true for cost - if you are looking to save money, you could go for something free or cheaper, that will be less powerful or will require more work. But given what it offers - Wowza is a pretty good deal.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With several projects, the plan was to replace Wowza with something else at some point, something more optimal in terms of both resources and pricing. However, Wowza has been running so smoothly, without causing any problems, that replacing it usually stays at the bottom of the priority list. It comes with wide support of streaming protocols and is usually quite advanced in adding support for new ones, that it remains a good choice for future-proofing as well. It has allowed me to make low-level changes to how video and audio packets are processed and synced, to automate my workflows, and custom security enhancements, combine benefits of different streaming protocols in a single workflow, etc.
Wowza’s Rock-Solid Reliability and High Performance Over the Years
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Wowza is its incredible robustness. We have been using it for many years, and it has consistently delivered high performance without issues. It is a highly reliable solution that has proven its value over time, regardless of how the streaming industry has evolved.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't much to dislike. The only minor point is the learning curve, as it is a highly technical platform. However, once you have it configured, it works flawlessly, so we haven't encountered any significant issues in all our years of operation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We chose Wowza because it was the best solution available when we launched our streaming services for our clients. It solved the problem of handling complex media workflows and diverse playback formats. The main benefit for us has been peace of mind: having a platform that was top-tier back then and continues to deliver consistent results for our business today.
Rock-Solid Streaming with Great Extensibility, Minor Setup Hurdles
What do you like best about the product?
Wowza Streaming Server is rock solid, we usually use it in every streaming event we do mainly as as a transcoder to feed Akamai CDN.
We also use it in some customer auction projects to stream real time feeds to clients.
We really appreciate the stability and quality of service, we never ever had a technical problem during the past 8 years of use.
We also appreciate extensibility with plugins and developers API we had the chance to use in some more specific use cases and scenarios.

Great documentation and responsive stream
What do you like best about the product?
As a small company with limited resources we tried alternatives that could not come close to what Wowza offers. It starts with the documentation which is well written and includes very helpful details. When comparing it to other services, it outperformed by a huge margin. The response time is incredible fast and the videos have hardly any loading time until they play.
What do you dislike about the product?
The documentation had old content included which we could not use and this could be documented a bit better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Wowza internally for meetings and as a video resource for applications. Furthermore, we hold live streams on the website for tutorials and marketing.

Solid Streaming Powerhouse
What do you like best about the product?
Wowza Streaming Engine has truly transformed the way we handle live streaming. It's incredibly robust and manages high-quality streams effortlessly. The low-latency performance is quite remarkable, and it integrates smoothly with various protocols, which adds to its versatility. However, I have to say, setting it up isn’t the simplest task—it definitely calls for some technical expertise. Still, if you're on the lookout for a dependable, professional-grade streaming solution, Wowza is absolutely worth the investment. Just be ready to tackle a bit of a learning curve!
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing can be a bit high for smaller setups.

To run our VOD setup seamlessly, it's been doing an incredible job for over a year.
Live Streams
What do you like best about the product?
I use Wowza to stream multiple live Zoom feeds for client viewing and it’s been solid. The streams are reliable and smooth, which is exactly what I need for live events.
What do you dislike about the product?
My only complaint is the yearly price increases — I don’t raise my rates to clients, so it makes it tough to absorb.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
no problems at the moment.
Helpful and fast streams
What do you like best about the product?
I could not believe the fast processing and quick response times I was getting when using the API for the first time. It is snapping fast and there has been no downtime yet.
What do you dislike about the product?
The User Interface leaves something to wonder about.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In the past, using our own servers and servers hosted in the cloud for the whole processing and storage has been a real hassle. I am able to let my engineers work on the dashboard rather than managing servers with Wowza.
