    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

Before you begin with your Bitwarden VM, you will need to obtain:

    1. A hostname (domain or subdomain) where you can create a DNS record pointing to your VM's IP address
    2. A Bitwarden installation ID and key from https://bitwarden.com/host/ . Bitwarden requires at least 2GB of RAM, so make sure to choose a plan with enough memory during creation. After you create your Bitwarden VM, Bitwarden's dependencies and installation scripts will be preinstalled and ready for you to use. You will need to connect to the VM via SSH to complete the setup.

    ssh ubuntu@your_vm_ip

Once you connect, you'll be prompted to complete Bitwarden's installation. Provide the hostname that you will use (be sure you have setup the DNS record), your installation ID and key, and answer the questions about how you will configure SSL with your Bitwarden installation. Bitwarden requires a secure HTTPS connection to operate. The installer can generate a self-signed certificate for you if you do not have one.

After you have completed the installation, you can visit your Bitwarden domain in a web browser, register a Bitwarden user account, and log in.

Your Bitwarden VM has also been preconfigured with automatic updates so you won't need to worry about keeping the Bitwarden server application up to date. Update checks will occur weekly.

Finally, application settings (such as a SMTP mail server) can be configured in /home/bitwarden/bwdata/env/global.override.env. If you need to make changes to your server's installation settings, you can do so in /home/bitwarden/bitwarden/bwdata/config.yml.

More information on managing your Bitwarden server can be found at https://help.bitwarden.com/hosting/ .

Secure Encrypted Sync Across Devices Brings Real Peace of Mind

    Reviewed on Jun 04, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Having one encrypted repository that automatically syncs credential updates across my workstation and mobile devices takes away my worry about password vulnerabilities or getting locked out, especially during busy project handoffs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The user interface feels a little basic and plain, especially compared with slicker consumer-facing options. I also run into occasional minor hiccups where the autofill prompt doesn’t trigger reliably on highly customized web forms or intranet portals, which sometimes means I have to open the extension panel manually.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It successfully eliminates the risky practice of people relying on repeated passwords or unencrypted local spreadsheets to manage portal details across multiple platforms. It provides a centralized system that securely generates complex keys and enables controlled access,

    Efficient and Intuitive Password Management

    Reviewed on Jun 02, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Bitwarden makes me save time when looking for a password or some personal data I need to keep protected. I appreciate that the free plan allows me to use it on several devices at the same time, and it is a clean app. I found its structure and intuitive way of use much better compared to others I tried before. The initial setup was very easy without any problems to face.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes in the Android App while navigating the browser, the popup of Bitwarden appears even if the data I have to insert is not a password. But I'm not sure if it is a Bitwarden issue or more of the Android system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Bitwarden saves me time finding passwords and keeps my personal data protected.

Effortless Password Management and Secure Sharing

    Reviewed on Jun 02, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I like how user-friendly Bitwarden is, with its ease of navigation and focus on securely sharing information. It's made for enterprise level use, and the feature of a free family password account is very helpful. I appreciate how smoothly the transition from LastPass went, thanks to Bitwarden's migration properties. I didn't have to do any manual tasks, which was great. I have enjoyed using Bitwarden so far because it's easy to use, affordable, and overall seems to be a great option.
What do you dislike about the product?
    Nothing yet!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Bitwarden makes it easy to securely share passwords and logins, allowing us to revoke access as needed, which is crucial for our consulting firm. It supports secure, limited-access password sharing and includes a free family account, providing security for both personal and business needs.
