    Overview

    Open image

CAST Imaging Express turns source code into actionable architectural intelligence. Through deterministic analysis of source code, external/shared libraries, and database scripts, it automatically reconstructs the full inner workings of any custom-built application.

The analysis is performed entirely within the customer's environment (eg. on a workstation, build server, or CI/CD pipeline) so source code never leaves controlled systems. Only the analysis output is sent to the cloud.

Delivered as a fully managed SaaS application on AWS, CAST Imaging Express generates interactive, navigable software maps that reveal how all components (classes, methods, pages, programs, tables, views, and more) connect and interact across technologies and layers.

It features an embedded MCP server that provides a standardized, machine-readable interface exposing CAST Imaging Express' architectural knowledge to AI agents. By grounding AI in factual, system-level context (architecture, data access paths, cross-technology dependencies, execution flows), CAST Imaging Express significantly improves the precision, reliability, and trustworthiness of AI-assisted software development.

Engineers and AI agents can instantly explore unfamiliar applications, understand their data model, assess change impact, trace end-to-end call graphs, and detect structural flaws that affect reliability, performance, and security.

Built for software architects, engineers, and AI agents, CAST Imaging Express supports a broad range of technologies including Java/JEE, .NET, C#, COBOL, Python, SQL, NoSQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, Node.js, and message queues. It is used for application discovery and documentation, change impact analysis, non-regression testing, modernization planning, technical debt reduction, and cloud or containerization readiness.

With CAST Imaging Express, teams gain instant visibility into how their systems operate, identify modernization blockers, accelerate development, and reduce risk across the software lifecycle.

    Highlights

    • Automatically generate interactive software maps that reveal how any custom-built application works inside. CAST Imaging Express provides software intelligence to explore unfamiliar systems, visualize dependencies, and document architecture across all technologies and layers.
    • Understand change impact before modifying code. CAST Imaging Express' deterministic analysis traces dependencies, data flows, and database access paths to help engineers plan and execute enhancements or refactoring with full visibility and confidence.
    • Identify critical structural flaws that affect reliability, performance, and security. CAST Imaging Express delivers actionable software intelligence to prioritize remediation, support non-regression testing, and systematically reduce technical debt.

CAST Imaging Turns Complex Apps into an Intuitive, High-Performance Visual Map

    Reviewed on Jul 14, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about CAST Imaging is how it transforms a complex application into an interactive visual map that's easy to explore. The UI is intuitive, making it simple to navigate application architecture, dependencies, transaction flows, and database relationships without having to manually trace code. It integrates well with common development environments and source repositories, allowing teams to analyze applications as part of their existing workflows. Performance is strong even for large enterprise applications, enabling faster impact analysis, troubleshooting, and onboarding of new developers. While it represents an investment, the time saved during maintenance, modernization, and root cause analysis provides a solid return on investment, especially for organizations managing large or legacy systems. The onboarding experience is supported by comprehensive documentation and responsive customer support, helping teams become productive quickly. I also appreciate how CAST Imaging incorporates AI capabilities by using its deep application knowledge to provide more accurate insights and recommendations, making architectural analysis and decision-making more efficient and reliable.
What do you dislike about the product?
One area where CAST Imaging could improve is the initial setup and overall learning curve, especially for organizations working with very large or highly customized applications. While the interface becomes intuitive once you’ve spent some time with it, new users may need a while to fully understand the different views, analysis options, and architectural insights available. Also, depending on the size of the codebase, the first analysis and indexing process can take a significant amount of time and may require substantial computing resources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CAST Imaging helps me quickly identify security vulnerabilities and high-risk performance issues in our applications. Rather than manually combing through large codebases and tracing dependencies, I can use the platform to pinpoint the root cause of problems and see how they affect the rest of the application. As a result, troubleshooting is much faster, there’s less risk of introducing regressions while fixing issues, and it’s easier to prioritize the most critical items first. Overall, it improves development efficiency, strengthens application security, and gives me more confidence when making changes in complex systems.
