Overview
Why Choose cloudimg AMIs?
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for cloudimg support services.
Why This AMI Instead of a Free Download?
Oracle SQL Developer is free to download, but configuring it on Windows involves Java/JDK dependency management, JDBC driver setup, Oracle Instant Client installation, Windows firewall rules, and RDP security hardening. This AMI eliminates that setup entirely. You launch, connect via RDP, and start working with Oracle databases immediately - backed by cloudimg's 24/7 support with a guaranteed 24-hour response SLA.
Who This AMI Is For
- Teams without dedicated Oracle infrastructure expertise who need a ready-to-use database development environment in the cloud
- Remote DBAs connecting to Oracle 19c on Amazon RDS or Oracle Cloud through a secure Windows jump box
- Development teams migrating from SQL Server, MySQL, or DB2 to Oracle who need the built-in migration platform pre-configured and supported
Getting Started
- Launch the AMI from AWS Marketplace on a Windows-compatible EC2 instance
- Configure your Security Group to allow RDP access on port 3389 from your IP range
- Connect via Remote Desktop using the credentials from your EC2 instance
- Open SQL Developer from the desktop - it is pre-installed and configured
- Create a new database connection to your Oracle Database endpoint
- Begin developing, administering, or migrating your databases
System Requirements and Prerequisites
- Recommended instance types: t3.medium or larger (minimum 4 GB RAM)
- Operating system: Windows Server 2019 (included)
- Network: Connectivity to your Oracle Database endpoint (RDS, EC2, on-premises, or Oracle Cloud)
- Oracle Database: Not included - you must have an existing Oracle Database instance (11gR2, 19c, 21c, or 23ai)
- Oracle licensing: Buyer is responsible for any Oracle Database licenses required for their environment
- Storage: Minimum 30 GB EBS volume recommended
Key Capabilities
PL/SQL Development - Complete IDE with syntax highlighting, code completion, compilation, debugging with breakpoints, step-through execution, variable watching, and stored Java support. Eliminates the need to configure multiple tools for Oracle application development.
Database Administration - DBA console for browsing objects, managing schemas, user and role management, privileges, performance monitoring, security configuration, and session management. Manage your Oracle databases without installing separate admin tools.
Data Modeling - Create Entity Relationship Diagrams, perform forward and reverse engineering, validate models, and generate documentation. Design your database architecture visually.
Database Migration - Migrate from Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, IBM DB2, MySQL, Microsoft Access, and Teradata to Oracle. Includes migration scripts, data type conversions, schema conversion, data transfer, and validation reports.
SQL Worksheet - Run queries, execute scripts, view execution plans, and export results to XML, Excel, HTML, PDF, and CSV formats.
RESTful Services - Develop and test REST APIs with OAuth support, authentication, API documentation, and service monitoring.
Performance Tools - SQL tuning advisor, real-time monitoring, wait events analysis, SQL trace, AWR reports, and ADDM reports for identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
Real-World Use Case: Database Migration
A development team running Microsoft SQL Server needs to migrate their application database to Oracle 19c on Amazon RDS. Using this AMI, they launch a Windows instance in the same VPC, connect via RDP, and use SQL Developer's migration platform to analyze their SQL Server schema, generate conversion scripts, transfer data, and validate the migration - all from a single pre-configured environment with cloudimg support available if they encounter connectivity or conversion issues.
Security and AMI Configuration
- Windows Server 2019 with latest patches at build time
- RDP access on port 3389 (restrict via Security Group to trusted IPs)
- Windows authentication and Active Directory integration supported
- NLA (Network Level Authentication) enabled for RDP security
- No additional inbound ports open by default
- EBS encryption supported for data at rest
Oracle Database Compatibility
Oracle Database 11gR2, 19c, 21c, and 23ai. Supports connections to Oracle Cloud databases and on-premises instances. Multi-version compatibility allows managing multiple Oracle environments from a single workstation.
cloudimg Support
24/7 support via phone, email, and chat with a guaranteed 24-hour response SLA. Support covers SQL Developer configuration, database connectivity troubleshooting, performance optimization guidance, migration assistance, and best practices consultation.
This AMI is a repackaged upstream distribution provided by cloudimg. Additional charges apply for build, maintenance, and support.
Highlights
- 24/7 Expert Support with Guaranteed 24-Hour Response SLA - Get immediate help with database connectivity issues, Oracle client configuration, JDBC driver setup, and migration troubleshooting via phone, email, and chat. Unlike self-installing the free tool, you have a dedicated team ensuring your environment stays operational around the clock.
- Zero-Configuration Oracle Development Environment - Skip Java/JDK dependency management, Oracle Instant Client installation, JDBC driver setup, and Windows firewall configuration. Launch the AMI, connect via RDP on port 3389, and start developing PL/SQL, running queries, or migrating databases within minutes on a pre-configured Windows Server 2019 instance.
- Complete Database Lifecycle Tooling for Oracle 11gR2 Through 23ai - PL/SQL IDE with full debugging, DBA administration console, visual data modeling with ERD generation, migration platform supporting SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, Sybase, and Teradata to Oracle conversion, plus SQL tuning advisor and real-time performance monitoring.
