PostgreSQL 14 Ubuntu 24.04 AMI - hardened with Trusted Images email support

Trusted Images packages PostgreSQL 14 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x86_64 for AWS customers who want a maintained database AMI with security evidence, monthly patch rebuilds, and documented support boundaries for image-specific questions.

    What is included

    • Ubuntu 24.04 LTS x86_64 AMI with a 30 GB gp3 root volume.
    • PostgreSQL 14 server, client, and contrib packages installed from the official PostgreSQL APT repository.
    • PostgreSQL managed by systemd with the default cluster at /var/lib/postgresql/14/main.
    • Trusted Images release metadata installed under /etc/trusted-images.

    Security hardening

    • The AMI configuration requires IMDSv2 and HTTP metadata tokens.
    • SSH root login and SSH password authentication are disabled by the common hardening role.
    • Kernel and network sysctl hardening is applied during provisioning.
    • PostgreSQL listens on localhost by default, with local peer authentication and localhost SCRAM rules in pg_hba.conf.
    • Supported AMI versions include source supply-chain scan output, runtime hardening validation, and root filesystem scan results.

    Patch and rebuild cadence

    • The image is rebuilt monthly after upstream package updates and can be rebuilt sooner for urgent security fixes.
    • Supported AMI versions include source scan output, runtime hardening checks, root filesystem scan results, package inventory, and SBOM data.

    Support process

    Evidence and SBOM availability

    • Trusted Images retains service validation records, source scan output, root filesystem scan results, hardening status, package inventory, and CycloneDX SBOM data for supported AMI versions.
    • SBOM and scan evidence can be provided through Trusted Images support for the published AMI version.

    Launch and configuration basics

    • Launch from AWS Marketplace with an x86_64 EC2 instance type sized for your workload.
    • Connect as the default Ubuntu AMI user: ubuntu.
    • PostgreSQL runs on port 5432 but is bound to localhost by default. To allow remote database clients, update PostgreSQL listen_addresses, pg_hba.conf, and your EC2 security group intentionally.
    • Review /etc/trusted-images/release after launch for image metadata.

    No upstream affiliation

    • PostgreSQL is open source software. Trusted Images is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the PostgreSQL Global Development Group or its maintainers.

    Highlights

    • PostgreSQL 14 Ubuntu 24.04 AMI with hardened defaults, IMDSv2 required, SSH password/root login disabled, and PostgreSQL bound to localhost by default.
    • Monthly patched PostgreSQL AMI rebuild cadence with SBOM data, source scan output, and root filesystem scan evidence available for reviewed versions.
    • Image-specific support topics include launch guidance, configuration guidance, patch notifications, issue triage, and SBOM evidence review.
