Pre-configured Elasticsearch search and analytics engine on Amazon Linux 2023. Production-ready with optimized JVM settings, security hardening, and automatic updates. Deploy a powerful full-text search and real-time analytics platform in minutes.

    Overview

Elasticsearch on Amazon Linux 2023 provides a fully configured, production-ready search and analytics engine on AWS.

This AMI is built on a minimal installation of Amazon Linux 2023, updated to the latest security patches, and includes Elasticsearch pre-installed and configured for immediate use. Elasticsearch is a distributed, RESTful search and analytics engine capable of handling diverse data types including textual, numerical, geospatial, structured, and unstructured data. It is built on Apache Lucene and provides near real-time search capabilities.

    Key components included:

    • Elasticsearch server (single-node configuration, ready for production or cluster expansion)
    • Java runtime (optimized JVM settings)
    • Essential management and monitoring tools
    • Git version control

    Key capabilities:

    • Full-text search with advanced query DSL
    • Real-time data indexing and analytics
    • RESTful API for easy integration
    • Horizontal scalability (add nodes to form a cluster)
    • Built-in snapshot and restore for data backup
    • Index lifecycle management

The system is security hardened following best practices. SSH access uses key pair authentication only. Elasticsearch is configured to listen on localhost by default for security. Unnecessary services and packages have been removed to reduce the attack surface. Automatic security updates are enabled by default.

This AMI is suitable for full-text search applications, log analytics and monitoring, real-time data analytics, e-commerce product search, application performance monitoring, and security information and event management (SIEM). Logstash and Kibana are not included but can be installed separately if needed.

Licensing: This software is distributed under the Elastic License 2.0 (ELv2). You are free to use, copy, modify, and deploy Elasticsearch for your own applications and internal business purposes. The ELv2 license has the following limitations: (1) You may not provide Elasticsearch to third parties as a hosted or managed search service; (2) You may not circumvent license key functionality; (3) You may not remove licensing or copyright notices. For full license terms, see the LICENSE file included in the installation directory.
