Overview Mattermost is the popular open source platform for secure team collaboration - channels, direct messages, file sharing, search, integrations and bots - a self-hosted alternative to public SaaS chat for teams with data residency or compliance requirements. This image delivers Mattermost Team Edition fully installed and configured, so a complete collaboration platform is running within minutes of launch. The current release available is Mattermost 11.
Application Stack The Mattermost server runs as a single Go binary behind nginx, configured as a websocket-aware reverse proxy. PostgreSQL provides the database. File uploads and plugins are stored on a dedicated, independently resizable volume.
Secure By Default On the first boot of your instance a one-shot service generates a fresh PostgreSQL password and a fresh Mattermost System Administrator account, unique to that instance, and writes them to a root only file. The instance's own address is set as the Mattermost site URL automatically. No shared or default credentials ship in the image.
Ready To Use The Mattermost server, web server and database are all configured. Browse to the instance address, sign in as the administrator, create your first team, and invite members. Connect the Mattermost desktop and mobile apps to the same address.
cloudimg Support 24/7 technical support by email and chat. Help with Mattermost deployment, upgrades, performance tuning, integrations, TLS termination and database administration.
Use Cases A private team chat and collaboration platform in your own VPC for organisations with data residency or compliance requirements. A self-hosted alternative to public SaaS messaging.

Usage instructions
Connect via SSH on port 22 as the default login user for your operating system variant (the user guide lists it per variant; on Ubuntu it is 'ubuntu'). Mattermost is served on port 80 through nginx (the server itself listens on 127.0.0.1:8065). Retrieve the generated administrator password with: sudo cat /root/mattermost-credentials.txt. Browse to http://<instance-public-ip>/ and sign in as the 'admin' user. The health endpoint http://<instance-public-ip>/api/v4/system/ping is open and returns JSON. Services are managed with systemctl (mattermost, postgresql, nginx); admin tasks use the Mattermost CLI 'sudo -u mattermost /opt/mattermost/bin/mmctl --local ...'. To enable HTTPS, follow the Let's Encrypt section of the user guide.
